Is that a Fact or a Feeling?
This is my favorite CBT technique. When you have strong emotions, it is often helpful to stop and ask yourself, is that a fact or a feeling? For instance, when my teenager declares, "I have no friends!" because some friends are hanging out without her, I will ask her, "Is that a fact or a feeling?" She is feeling abandoned and left out, but it is not a fact that she has no friends.
