A few weeks ago we got to celebrate our summer cover girl Harriet Mashburn at a lovely party hosted by the lovely Ann Mashburn. We also got to hear from the powerhouse that is Katherine Wolf of Hope Heals. Katherine and Harriet show us that life with a disability is hard and beautiful and worth sharing.

Want to hear some positive news?
Insider.com reports that Paralympic athletes will now earn as much per medal as their Olympic athlete counterparts.

Citing the New York Times, Insider reports that in the past US Paralympians earned $7,500 for gold medals, $5,250 for silver, and $3,750 for bronze. Comparatively, Olympians won $37,500 for gold medals, $22,500 for silver, and $15,000 for bronze.

Although the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) made this pay change shortly after the 2018 Winter Olympics, the 2021 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo are the first games for athletes to be paid equally, Insider Reports.

FOUNDER FRIDAY: Get to know Founder Will.
Abled Magazine was founded by siblings Lindsey and Will after Will's life took an unexpected twist.
At age 12 years old, Will had a spontaneous hemorrhagic stroke, turning him from a carefree boy into someone who couldn't walk, talk, read, or eat, to name a few.
This began a journey of rehabilitating from complete paralysis, re-learning to all of his basic functions, and adapting to a new way of living with impairments in school, friendships, career goals, and more.
Always looking for role models, solutions to this new way of life, and answers to questions like, "Do adaptive sports exist?", Will and his sister Lindsey spent hours searching every corner of the internet for answers.
Realizing that finding a new piece of information about life with disabilities was like finding gold, Will, and Lindsey decided to save others the hours of searching online. Abled Magazine was born to fill a gap in the market of online information: a hub for all things disability lifestyle to be published. There isn't a lack of stories about disability, there's a lack of places to tell them. We hope Abled makes the journey to adaptive living easier, more enjoyable, and one to be proud of---for all of the other Wills out there.

Fun Facts about Will:
Favorite Food: "Buffalo wings/anything spicy (My taste buds are duller because of my stroke)"
One movie he could watch forever: "Hot Rod"
Favorite adaptive tool: " makes button-ups with magnetic snaps. They're great for people with one available hand, like me. I wear one almost every day and they look identical to their other shirts!"

Elon Musk made history this weekend---but not because of his high-tech inventions. On Saturday, May 9, 2021, he joined the small club of those with Asperger Syndrome, a diagnosis on the Autism Disorder Spectrum, to host NBC's hit show Saturday Night Live. While Musk incorrectly told audiences he was the first to make this achievement, "Or at least the first to admit it," Musk said, the first known SNL host was actually Dan Aykroyd in 2003.

These pins are the perfect accessory for superheroes IRL. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world may have finally figured out who the real superheroes are: medical professionals. In the disabled world, we’ve known this for a while, but we won’t hate on everyone who’s just now realizing. Even though medical professionals are getting a lot of praise in the media right now (rightfully deserved) they still endure long, hard, messy days in their scrubs. [ 143 more words ]
