A different this week.

Since our club just started monthly club afternoons, we’ve decided to start a page to keep people to date with what happens at our club afternoons, share the events we put on and show off some of our members amazing hobby skills.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 South Wales Warlords first club afternoon 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

An incredible turn out of 19 old and new members!

We had,
3 games of Warlord Games Bolt Action (one friendly, one tournament practise, one introductory)
A introductory game of 30K
A game of Pikeman’s Lament
A game of 15mm Black Powder
Two members playing many games of Great Escape Games Dead Man’s Hand
And a few members playing board games all afternoon.

30 minutes a day keeps the pile away has been doing the trick. Since the 1st of January I have made sure I have done at least 30 minutes of hobby a day. This then leads to 45 minutes or and hour and sometimes more. It’s been great to see things come together so quickly and that is constant inspiration for the next day.

Lefthand Semi

Easy enough to put together. The most difficult part was the connecting the walls to the floors since you have an outer and inner walls to glue. I must remember,
1. Make sure to start on instruction one 😂.
2. Read the actual instructions and don’t just follow the pictures.

What I really like about terrain is now that’s built, it’s done. I don’t like the look of MDF as a finish normally so tend to add sand or filler to the walls but these just look right.

Bit late I know. I was far too interested reading the masses of comments people were leaving about cash prizes in wargaming on my page (if you missed it, go check it out).

Anyway, first squad of US airborne ready for my Bulge force. These are the metals by Warlord Games

I was worried about the highlight being too strong but I’m happy with it. You may notice I clipped the helmets with the snow basing. It was an accident that I missed but leaves an interesting touch of snow on the helmet look. (Well that’s what I’m telling myself 😂)

2nd batch of 6 US Airborne for a Bulge force and two lines of epic ACW.

Unsure on the Army Green as a highlight for the Russian Uniform. May need to add the Military Green wash after the highlight to dull it perhaps instead of highlighting after the wash.

South Wales Warlords Wargaming Club will be starting a new monthly gaming session in Marshfield (village between Cardiff and Newport).

1. Large range of games played by members (including card and board games)
2. Large space for many tables
3. High quality terrain (which continues to grow thanks to our members)
4. Ten minutes from the Cardiff East junction of the M4
5. Built in Kitchen
6. Built in coffee shop
7. Plenty of parking
8. Five minute walk to a local pub with food

First session is free for non-members. Get in contact with me (Chairman - DBS checked) if your interested and I’ll set up a game with a member for you.

So we reflected on 2022 yesterday, time to look forward into 2023 today.

What are your hobby targets for the year?

I’ve probably said this before, I don’t do resolutions. I give myself 5 main targets to achieve in a year so I am focused.
1 Family related
1 Health related
1 Work related
1 Hobby related
1 Money related

I have the main hobby target (which is paint the 150 models) but I also branch a few off a few smaller ones to support what I want to achieve in my hobby.

After 3 years of failing “Have nothing waiting” as a target, it is being replaced with a number of models (thank you Brad from Cast Dice for that idea). Looking at what I’ve got, even though I didn’t add much to it this year, there’s no chance of it all being done by the end of the year. The club targets reflect what I would like as a chairman and not a reflection on the whole committee although I’m sure they would agree.

Another year has past. Time for reflection.

What have you achieved this year?

Reflecting on your year is important. It’s how you can be proud of what you have achieved and know where you can improve. This year I’ve had a baby taking up a lot of my time so I haven’t got as much painted as I would’ve liked but wouldn’t change it for the world.

There have been plenty of big achievements that I’m happy with. Playing for Wales at the WTC is probably my biggest and I wouldn’t have done that without the team I had with me. I am so proud of the club for going from strength to strength. The members are becoming a like second deranged family for me and they’ve made this year much easier. Improvements for next year has to be lowering my painting target but also finding consistency with my painting. It can be difficult with a job and young family but I will explore a way to make it work.

Yesterday also saw the final rounds of our 750pt Bolt Action league games being played.

Moment of the league came today.
Gerwyn had already won the league coming into his final match and was one win away from finishing the season with a perfect record of 9/9. His opponent was bottom of the table Martin who at the time had just won his first game in his previous match that day.
Martin who bleeds club colours (no, he’s not an ork) held strong to force a draw stopping Gerwyn from having a perfect season. This draw spurred Martin on to win his last game as well and stop himself from receiving the wooden spoon.

Visited Leeds Armouries Museum today.

Impressive selection and well worth the visit. Lots of demonstrations and talks to really immerse you in the museum.

I love to see miniatures being used to give you the real feel of a battle where photos or paintings can’t.
