The prefix trans means to be on the other side of or across, or beyond. When you transcend something you surpass it or go beyond it. When you transgress, you find yourself on the other side of the law or a duty. When you identify as transgender, you place yourself on the other side and often outside of typical gender norms.

Being transgender is an active disruption of societal norms, and no matter what form it takes, it is often marginalizing. Transgender has many faces, and it is important to remember that there is no singular depiction of what it means to be transgender.

Environmental justice goes hand in hand with racial justice. Saving the planet requires a diverse, equitable, and inclusive approach.

Many issues regarding the state of the planet can be attributed to racial and socioeconomic inequality. Those impacted the most are low-income communities of color.

DEI is anti-racism.

As we approach three years since the catalyst to the modern Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) movement occurred, we see that many organizations who once committed to DEI are falling short on that commitment. There are many reasons why this happens, but losing sight of anti-racism in the workplace puts a rapid end to DEI efforts.

DEI aims to identify issues that marginalized groups face in the workplace and implement policies to mend those issues. At its core, DEI is a form of anti-racism which means that it cannot function effectively without that foundation being secure.

In numerous states across the country and in many countries across the world, being transgender can put a target on your back. it can threaten both physical and psychological safety and take a huge toll on the mental health of the transgender community.

Have you considered how intersectionality affects the wage gap in your workplace?

The wage gap is often discussed from limited perspectives, but when looked at from a position of intersectionality, we see that it is much more nuanced than it is made out to be.

Intersectionality reminds us that we can gather new information when we study intersecting identities. In terms of the wage gap, when race intersects with gender, the gap increases significantly.

Women across the country are experiencing high levels of burnout at an alarming rate. The trend is consistent among women of all ages and has had a great impact on workplace culture. Women are at higher risk of burnout due to pay inequality, opportunity inequality, unpaid domestic chores, and a plethora of other factors.

Closing the gap requires fixing the inequalities that women face in the workplace. Here are a few steps you can take for aiding burnout in your workplace:

1️⃣ Pay equal attention to in-office and at-home workers. Women are more likely to work from home and those who work from home are often passed up for promotion opportunities
2️⃣ Encourage women's support groups and parent support groups in the office.
3️⃣ Create a space where women can support one another and build community.
4️⃣ Actively seek and consider the thoughts, feelings, and opinions of the women in your workplace.
