[Movie Review]
Digimon Adventure 02 - The Beginning.
A disappointing, slightly above average entry. 6 out of 10.

If you're looking for epic digivolutions that led to epic battle across the sprawling city of Japan you won't find it in this movie. And that's my main spite.

The movie spends a huge portion of its time exploring the tragic backstory of Rui, the newest Digi Destined, who also happened to be the very first (hence the title), and how his partnership with Ukkomon was formed. The movie shown their partnership was actually the beginning of all the Digi Destined, aka Chosen Ones. And that's about it. That's the main synopsis of the movie, even though it makes little consequence at the end.

The movie felt like it was written to be a slice-of-life, to say, it's a slice-of-life movie but featuring Digimon. It talks about how partnership was formed and how bonds are important between the Chosen Ones and their Digimon partner. Which is already a staple in all of the entries, only it consumes almost the entirety of the movie now. Though what separates it here is when the movie explores the theme of child abuse, and it was really well presented that led to a sad ending for both Rui and Okkoumon. No doubt one of the stronger point of the movie.

That led to the main point of disappointment. There are very little Digimon battles and action scenes. The amazing (as always) OST that played made it nostalgic, but the battle itself is bare bones. There are no new digivolutions, no armor evolutions, Angewomon, a perfect form, got hit once and returns back to Tailmon. Then they all fusion digivolve to their known form, and the only thing they're fighting are big tentacles-whip-thingy. Worse the main baddie, which is not even bad, was then one-shot by Imperialdramon, easy, and that's it.

I'm not sure what the end game is. That the Chosen Ones do not need Digivice? (The little consequence at the end of the movie) What then? Won't it just hurts merch sales if future Digimon entries won't have a new type of Digivice. If the movie main synopsis are shows of Bonds and Friendship, that's literally every Digimon movie and series ever. Maybe it's supposed to set up future entries or something? If indeed there are I'm not aware of it, nor I'm hopeful. Digimon Tamers movie after this maybe?

It's quite frustrating as what we had been shown The Last Evolution, the potential of what a Digimon movie can be. I was hoping for more movies, more expanded stories that include both returning characters alongside new ones. This fell short.

Digimon Adventure TRI and Last Evolution nailed it and gave everything I wanted. I'm not sure what Digimon Adventure 02 Movie The Beginning brings onto the table. What a waste of good characters.

The Core Four is a survivor group formed by and consisting of consisting of the Carpenter sisters (Sam and Tara) and the Meeks-Martin twins (Chad and Mindy), with Chad coming up with the name.

With the firing of and now not returning it just won't be the same anymore for . Spy Glass started to leave a bad taste in the mouth when they refused to pay what she was worth because according to her the Studio is very greedy.

They also fired the new Lead Star Melissa Barrera who reiterated on more than one occasion that she wishes nothing but, peace and love yet people are twisting things on her to fit their narrative because it's so much easier to pass judgement and hate rather than peace, love, and understanding. Please learn to love and respect one another.
