Expansion/contraction and a few other mental models to help you build the life you want.
Your choices define you
A short story that loops back to you. It always comes back to you :)
Here’s how to help yourself
This is particularly useful if you're in sales/marketing or copywriting (or want to be).
It’s not about you.
If you have any interest making big money in the future wave, this is for you.
It’s finally web3’s year.
The cheat codes you wanted to know.
Your life, your choice.
If you're a leader of any kind (parent, teacher, manager, etc.) this is for you.
Learn how to tell a better story in 2 minutes.
Stop making excuses.
Take action.
Ship it.
Life was rough from 15-25.
Mostly because I was "stuck in stupid". That gear where you don't get out of your own way.
But if you can weather the storm of stupidity, you'll come out with a few essential lessons under your belt.
Here are mine:
• Get 8 hours of sleep
• Be a rational optimist
• Marry the right person
• Have an emergency fund
• Build your discipline muscle
So, basically I learned how to eliminate 90% of life’s problems in 5 (easy enough) steps.
It cost me 10 years.
But it'll pay me back 50.
Fair deal.
Begin with the end in mind.
Work backward from your goal.
Create anti-goals. Ex. "I want time freedom, so I'm not going to work 9-5 forever."
How did the people who are where you want to be, get there?
The 4 hour workweek doesn't happen overnight.
Tim Ferriss worked 80 hour weeks for years before he got to 4 hours.
You can't have the event without going through the process.
I’ve always stood by these 3 things being most important: health, relationships, wealth.
In that order.
Except, it’s also always been too easy for me to default into wealth/work.
This year is teaching me the first 2 must come first, no excuses.
We have a sick family member and it’s driving home how little wealth matters without the first two.
So, we’re leaning into the positives. This will make our family stronger and closer. This will force health to the forefront of our lives.
No, you're not going to make a million bucks in 6 months but...
You can learn to turn 12 hour days into 4 hour days within a couple of years.
Sleep and breathing.
Those are the super supplements everyone's looking for.
Check out Wim Hof's method.
If you can detach from outcomes and obsess over processes, you'll find success.
Saw a story recently about a guy who hadn't paid attention to his stats. So he didn't realize his revenue streams flipped.
If he had been paying attention to outcomes, he would've panicked. Instead he just kept showing up every day, working hard.
His revenue tripled.
Not enough people give themselves time to think.
Our world is constant noise and if you never pause to think, there's never any signal.
This is why insomnia is rampant. Your brain is racing at bedtime because it's the only stop you slow down.
Give yourself quiet time during the day.
Don't do anything else but sit and think. You're not meditating or listening to music. You're just thinking.
You'll get better sleep and more clarity.
Think of what you really want- it's not money (unless you're obsessed with things).
It's likely time, freedom, love, options, experiences, generosity, community.
All things you can have more of right now. So don't trade your precious time for dollars, the return is always negative.
Remote work gives you more time and freedom.
A savings account gives you options.
Scheduling a game night with friends or family gives you experiences.
Joining a gym, online group, AA, church, etc. gives you community.
Donating time or money gives you generosity.
You can have it all now. Don’t wait for some magical future moment.
This will serve you better than almost anything else you could learn.
Don't wait for motivation. Create momentum.
‘Ego too big. Breathing too shallow.’
My latest journal entry.
Ego’s too big?
Yep. Ego is everywhere.
“They’re judging me.” No they’re not. They’re thinking of themselves.
“My friend said something mean about me.” It’s about her and who she is, what she stands for. It’s not about you, not really.
“I know better than they do.” You’ve experienced about .000001% of what life has to offer. Act accordingly.
Ego threatens your success. Your relationships. Your health.
Get a grip.
We created core family values for us and the kids.
A nice set of 'rules' that guide us where we want to go.
Try it out. See if it works for you.
Make 2023 the year you start taking things off your plate.
Focus on your core goals.
Limit everything else.
Daybuilding is a way to manage goals and make them easier to reach.
Instead of looking at years long or months long goals, you build out the next 24 hours.
You build your habits around your goals then nail it one day at a time.
We'll be bringing the kids into most of our conversations in 2023 (they'll be 12 and 8 years old).
I want them to hear about money. I want them to see disagreements. I want them to see goal setting. I want them to see habits being built.
I want them to see how healthy families work.
We have children, but we’re not raising children. We're raising future adults.
You can copy the plan of successful plan of people (until you build your own way).
All the blueprints are free (monetarily) but it costs you something.
If you're unwilling to pay the price, you can't have success.
Use this loose schedule for 2023 and tell me you don't feel better and get more done.
5 years ago my idea of a good New Year’s Eve would’ve been getting drunk somewhere and trying to bring someone home.
Now, this.
I should’ve had FOMO back then. Because this is the best.
We did homemade pizzas, an ice cream sundae bar and a doubleheader movie special all cuddled up on the couch.
We wish you and your family the happiest new year. I hope it’s your best one yet.
Everything you want to know about: starting a specific side hustle, building financial freedom, getting fit, etc.
It's all available for free, aside from costing your time & effort.
If you can't pay that price, you can't have it.
What if you spent 2023 doing 12 different 30 day challenges?
What would your life look like after a year?
Some ideas:
- 30 days of journaling
- 30 days of working out
- 30 days of waking up at 6am
- 30 days of publishing content online
- 30 days of spending no money (aside from normal bills)
If your goal really matters to you, don't wait for January 1st.

Daybuilding is one of my favorite concepts. Look at your long term goals (mine are good health, solid relationships & financial freedom). Then build your days around the habits that'll get you there. Nail your next 24 hours. Repeat.
Upgrades I made in 2022: - 1 cup of caffeinated tea per day (decaf coffee otherwise) - Zero alcohol - 150g protein per day/25g+ fiber per day - Consistent wake/sleep schedule: 10pm bed, 6am rise - Buying a MacBook Air for content creation, a Canva Pro subscription and courses in digital marketing & copywriting
