The ever-present theme of The Closing Tag for the three years it has been in existence has been “change is ongoing and change is inevitable”. So it stands to reason that we arrive at this point today.
Effective August 15, 2024, we are shutting down The Closing Tag Network of podcasts; not permanently but we are taking a break.
So now that I’ve gone out of my way to not bury the lead, let me explain what’s going on.
When I brought The Closing Tag Network back last year, I did so with the understanding that I would be working on top of doing the podcast. At the time, I also had sustainable and solid web hosting. Well right now, as it stands, web hosting is in a constant state of “what are we even doing here” and my employment status outside the podcast and business is in serious question.
With my focus on trying to rebuild the business after two devastating outages and a looming change in hosting providers, as well as trying to find a new full-time job, I feel like I cannot bring the quality content - either in podcast form or blog form - that I feel that I am otherwise capable of bringing.
In addition to this, I am announcing that effective November 1, 2024, theclosingtag.com and all subdomains under its umbrella will be closed permanently.
This is not goodbye forever, however, just goodbye for now.
Once I am able to ensure the ground underneath my feet isn’t constantly disappearing and reappearing rapidly like a flickering light (insert your “we’re living in a simulation” conspiracy theories here) I fully plan on bringing the podcasts back with a fresh coat of paint on them. (Except GAMESTREAM; that’s coming back with the same branding)
But it is goodbye, which is more than what you got the last time I had to step away.
I will likely be keeping the Facebook and YouTube channels open for as long as Zuckerberg and the dude who runs Google allow them to stay open without any new activity, primarily for archival purposes. (Plus uploading three years’ worth of podcasts to a new channel sounds like much more work than is needed)
I know I say it all the time at the end of each episode, but to everybody that has listened, watched, or downloaded the podcast on Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, Stitcher (back when it was a thing), and the other various outlets, THANK YOU.
I’m not crying because it’s over; I’m smiling because for three years, I got to live a life-long dream, which is more than what a lot of people in this life get to say. And again, I’m not closing the door forever. I will be back, more opinionated and more vocal than I’ve ever been, and hopefully a little wiser.
Until we meet again, remember to include your closing tags.
