In this episode of Small Steps, Big Wins, I sit down with Lawrence Dunning to explore the transformative power of vulnerability and storytelling. Together, we dive into our personal journeys of overcoming financial and personal hardships by embracing authenticity through writing and sharing our stories. We discuss the courage needed to reveal our life experiences and the profound growth that comes from accepting and celebrating our imperfections.

Key Discussion Points:

The Power of Vulnerability in Writing: Lawrence and I share the highs and lows of publishing personal stories, the unexpected connections we’ve made, and how sharing our struggles has brought us closer to others on similar paths. Lawrence opens up about his financial setbacks, and I discuss my motivation to impact others through my writing.

Embracing Imperfections: We talk about how life’s challenges foster connection and understanding, encouraging listeners to view trials as opportunities for growth and more authentic narratives.

Lessons from Stoicism: Inspired by Stoic philosophy, we explore the mindset of “winning or learning” and how obstacles can be reframed as growth opportunities. Personal stories reveal the value of maintaining connections and how writing can bring forgotten memories to light.

Surrendering to Life’s Flow: We touch on surrendering to life’s unpredictability and how embracing past decisions and the present moment can lead to contentment. Surrendering, we find, isn’t about giving up; it’s about letting life unfold naturally.

Creative Challenges in Writing: I reflect on the unexpected hurdles and rewards of the creative process while writing my book, underscoring the importance of creating space for self-analysis and personal growth.

Legacy and Connection: Lawrence and I wrap up with insights on the importance of living in the present, creating meaningful connections, and leaving a legacy that reflects one’s values and journey.

Hey all it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Since I moved to Iowa and became Director of operations and administration for a Plumbing And Heating company, life has been on a fast pace since. The lessons that I am learning and the experience I’m gaining is invaluable. My biggest takeaway and my biggest struggle is realizing how challenging it is to manage not only a business but the relationship and people interactions. I also took over the accounting and HR department a few weeks ago. A lot more work ahead. You can’t have the glory of owning a small business without getting an ass kicking.

One thing that I did realize is that it is easier to surrender to the flow of life, as opposed to trying to push life into what you think it should be. When I let circumstances and situations that I cannot control unfold, and then learn to be the best version of myself in the moment, the outcome feels more natural than if I had tried to force the outcome myself.

Also, my book is going to be released in e-form on October 1 and hardcopy on October 15. More to follow later.

I will go back to recording podcasts in September. The podcast is still released once a week and I have some amazing guests in the queue.

All of you are Rockstars so go crush your life!

In this episode, I dive deep into the transformative power of podcasting with Marc Picard. We explore the idea of valuing every single listener, no matter the size of your audience, and redefine what success means in the podcasting world. Marc and I reflect on how even just 25 or 50 downloads represent real people who can amplify your message. We discuss how podcasting success should be measured by the connections made, the impact on social media, and personal growth from guest interactions, rather than just numerical goals.

Discover how podcasting can be a catalyst for both personal and professional development. From meeting life coaches and influential authors like Brian Johnson to creative fulfillment and self-improvement, this episode is filled with inspiring stories and practical advice. I also share fun anecdotes, like learning Catalan in Barcelona, to emphasize the importance of embracing unique traits and living in the moment. Plus, I provide actionable tips to start your own journey of positive change today. So after almost 3 weeks of being in Iowa and taking the position of Director of Operations for a HVAC/plumbing business, I can officially say that I am a small business owner (as per my conversation with my partner)! I am responsible for 17 people's jobs and the day to day operations and will own the P&L statement soon. It is freaking hard but I love every minute of it!!! I'm at the shop everyday and I get to interact with great people. My partner is amazing and I am the ying to his yang.
I had a chance to reflect on all of this and on the outside it seems like my life changed overnight after standing on stage in Austin on May 3, but the reality is that where I am today actually took years to achieve.

Stick with me...
I joined Emerge in October 2022 and had no idea what I was going to do with my life, while working as a financial advisor in a job that paid very little and did not give me room to grow.
I had to process some intense traumatic experiences last year that sent me spiraling downwards and looking for something to save me. I started coaching with Austin Linney on July 31, 2023 and did the intense work of changing and growing into the person that I knew I could be. If it was not for his coaching along with investing my time and energy into Gobundance Emerge, I would not be who I am or where I am today.
I had to go through decades of difficulties and trials in order to write a book to help others take steps to help change their lives (my book comes out October 1)
I was able to stand on stage in Austin because of all of the experiences that I had up to that point. I could not have accepted this opportunity a year ago; I was not ready.
So for all of you that wanted something to happen yesterday (and believe me I am like that too sometimes), be patient because the universe knows what you need exactly when you are ready to receive it!
Don't stop dreaming big!

Vulnerability, Authenticity, Consistency, Courage.

I went to the Austin Entrepreneurial Summit in Austin, TX last week. I am still processing AES and the master mind from Saturday/Sunday. I admit I did not want to be vulnerable especially Saturday and Sunday, but the Universe had something else in mind. I was struggling because some personal situations and had the opportunity to share.

A big shout out to my friend Chris Merz, who read between the lines and then stood up an encouraged me to remember I am worthy - I didn't even know that is what I needed, but he was spot on. Also thanks to Nate Broman-Fulks and Chuck Robinson who saw what I didn't. Because I was vulnerable, I allowed myself to be authentic, either when I was talking to others or when I went on stage, spoke in front of 300 people, and told them I an integrator looking for the right visionary.

My authenticity earned me a conversation with GoBro Corey Robinson, which has now led to a job offer to be GM/COO for his HVAC business in Iowa. This is an amazing opportunity to get to do something that I have been dreaming of.

A reminder to you that you are amazing just the way you are.

And finally, all of you have that courage inside to go and do what you know you are called to do. What I learned is that my time is not always the universe's/God's time, but regardless, it's the RIGHT TIME. I was not ready 6 months ago to walk through the door that just opened for me.

Be patient if your door didn't open yet, it's just not your time.
