Guidelines for Couples When Angry

1. You can be upset with me, but please avoid insults. Anger doesn’t give a free pass to hurtful words.
2. If you’re mad, let me know why. Don’t assume I already understand.
3. Feel free to be angry, but keep it between us. Protect our privacy.
4. Even when you’re upset, try to remember my good qualities. Be fair and balanced.
5. It’s okay to be mad, but also recall the times I’ve forgiven you.
6. Don’t give me the silent treatment—let’s keep talking.
7. Anger isn’t an excuse to be unfaithful.
8. Don’t hurt me just to get even. True love doesn’t seek revenge.
9. Let’s resolve our differences quickly and not let anger linger.
10. Even when you’re upset, keep praying for us. We still need that support.
11. Don’t threaten to leave when you’re angry—quitting won’t solve anything.
12. Keep intimacy as a special part of our relationship; don’t use it as a weapon.
13. Don’t keep bringing up things you’ve already forgiven.
14. Stay positive about yourself, even if I’ve upset you. I take responsibility, and we can work through this together.
