I had planned on self-publishing a few books before starting a publishing company of my own. Then the world got hit with the Covid-19 Pandemic. Forcing everyone to stay inside, driving many of us mad with boredom. If that’s not bad enough, these stressful times can increase depressive feelings --- at least I know mine have.
Since being creative can help with depression I reached out to my best friend and together we decided it was a great idea to put together an anthology related to what’s going on. That way people can write or draw something that helps them through this. Whether it’s a feel good true story of people coming together or something to help you forget what’s going on around you, writing about it can help.
The theme of this anthology would be the obvious -- Covid-19, satirical apocalyptic scenarios, being quarantined, or locked in/confined somewhere against the MCs will.
We’ll be looking for anything from funny to scary to feel-good stories of coming together in our time of need, as long as it adheres to the main theme. The idea is to capture the social climate and overall attitudes of this time for posterity. Here’s what we were thinking:
* Fiction / Nonfiction / Artwork / Poetry
* Short stories 2500 - 7500 words; Poems no longer than 25 lines
* No entry fee, submit as many pieces as you would like (only ONE will be chosen)
* 16 - 20 written submissions will be selected
* 10 - 15 pieces of art with 1 being picked for the cover
* Submissions can be sent to [email protected] until June 30th 2020 - Put Covid-19 as the subject. (Anything submitted after that date won’t be considered for this book).
* All submissions should be attached as either a .doc or .jpeg
* All submissions should be in final, edited form. We will be proofreading the final product but only for basic issues and formatting to prepare for publication.
** If anyone needs a more in-depth edit before they submit, Andrea is offering developmental and copyediting services. You can contact her at the above email address to discuss it. If she edits for you, it does not automatically guarantee inclusion in the anthology. Your submission will still be judged the same as all the others.
* Chosen contributors will be notified no later than August 31st 2020
* Projected publication Nov/Dec 2020 - Non-exclusive rights to chosen works
* Contributors will each receive a copy as well as small fee yet to be determined.
