TAKING IT TO THE STREETS
Clifton Main Street’s 23rd Annual Fall Fest and 28th Annual Trick-Or-Treat with Main Street offers Fall season hometown fun for hundreds of all ages; check out Chisholm Country's photo galleries

As temperatures drop at night, giving chilly mornings, and that unmistakable feeling of autumn, it heralds in the season’s iconic event, Clifton Main Street’s 23rd Annual Fall Fest. It was a perfect day to spend outside Oct. 19.
Just a few clouds broke up the crisp blue fall sky; the blue contrasting the pumpkins, orange and maroon décor. And with Halloween decorations are showing up all over the place, we know it’s October.
And while rain had been forecast for days, Oct. 31 was a perfect evening to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve with the 28th Annual Trick-Or-Treat with Main Street event.
The costumes were as diverse as the hundreds of youth and their parents that came to downtown to gather up candy from the tables lining Main Street.
Both the 23rd Annual Fall Fest and 28th Annual Trick or Treat with Main Street were presented by Clifton Main Street. With Chisholm County magazine on hand to document the fun at both popular events, visit www.ChisholmCountry.com for the complete photo collages of both events:

THREE CORDS & THE TRUTH
Weavers Of Stories: Eoff wins 2024 Texas Troubadour and Song of the Year at Bosque Arts Center’s 11th annual Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic

It takes a lot of talent, a fair amount of gumption and resilience, a lot of long days and nights playing your music and a little bit of luck to break through in the music industry. Whereas Nashville, TN is the Mecca for country music, Clifton offers a golden opportunity for songwriters to be heard, recognized for their talents as they are put in the spotlight and celebrated.
At the 11th annual Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic - Bosque Arts Center Oct. 26, the audience that filled the Tin Building Theatre at the Bosque Arts Center heard five finalists offer their “three chords and the truth,” staying rooted in country and southern gospel.
This year’s judge was none other than Jimmy Fortune, formerly of the renowned and acclaimed Statler Brothers band.

ROOTED IN RURAL AMERICA
Connecting With Country Crossroads: Smithsonian traveling exhibit highlights changing landscape of rural America at Bosque Museum runs six weeks through Dec. 1

Americans have relied on rural crossroads for generations. These places where people gather to exchange goods, services and culture and to engage in political and community discussions are an important part of our cultural fabric. Despite the massive economic and demographic impacts brought on by these changes, America’s small towns continue to creatively focus on new opportunities for growth and development.
Throughout the 19th Century, the majority of Americans lived in rural areas, living off the land, hunting and fishing, building their lives around livestock and crops dictated by the seasons. Since 1900, the percentage of Americans living in rural areas dropped from 60 percent to 17 percent. In Texas, that number is 15.3 percent.
The phrase “Rural America is a deceptively simple term for a remarkably diverse collection of places,” pops up in several publications from reports on rural America, cultural sites, sites for reimagining change, and agriculture and socio-economic sites. It also popped up in the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street exhibit “Crossroads: Change in Rural America” at Bosque Museum. The exhibition – made in cooperation with the Texas Historical Commission – examines the evolving landscape of rural America. It opened at the Bosque Museum on Oct. 12 and can be viewed through December 1.

A FAMOUSLY FAMILIAR FACE
With the Third Annual Fred Ward Memorial Tribute featuring “Remo Williams” at The Cliftex Oct. 15, the Bosque Film Society spotlights the life & career of Valley Mills High graduate

For more than three decades, actor Fred Ward worked with the biggest names in Hollywood and appeared in box office hits and award-winning films. When he passed away in 2022 at the age of 79, tributes poured in from throughout the entertainment industry and around the world.
For several local residents, Ward’s passing became a personal loss connected through friendships from years ago. Though not widely known, Freddie Joe Ward lived in Bosque County in the 1950s and graduated from Valley Mills High School in the Class of 1960.
Because of that local connection, the Bosque Film Society will be presenting the Third Annual Fred Ward Memorial Tribute Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the historic Cliftex Theatre in Clifton. The free-to-the-public night at the movies features Ward starring as “Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins” – the 1985 action-adventure film directed by Guy Williams, sponsored by Bryan Davis and Rick Lundberg.

LA FAMILIA SIEMPRE
With Tejano pride and deep roots in Bosque County, Del Bosque family recognized and remembered during Hispanic Heritage month Sept. 15-Oct. 15

During the annually celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 15-Oct. 15, people of the United States recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements. And because Texas was once part of Mexico and Spain, as well as the long border with Mexico, that influence is very strong in the Lone Star State.
When son of a wealthy Spanish family, Pantaleon Del Bosque Guerra stepped off the Spanish merchant ship that had taken him to the Mexican coast in the early 1800s, he could not know his lineage would eventually find a home in the Central Texas county that contains part of his surname, that of Bosque County.

BOOSTING A BULL MARKET
Fueling An Optimal Herd: Clifton Feed and Service’s Cattle Producers meeting offers information, network opportunity aimed at producing and feeding greatness

A bull market is a financial market where prices are rising or are expected to rise over a long period of time. Presently, in Central Texas, it also refers to the favorable cattle market. And not only are the cattle markets strong, so are the sheep and goat markets.
Since the drought summers, supply is low, and demand remains high for beef; and is expected to stay that way for the next couple of years. Urban sprawl and difficulty in finding good ranch hands plays into the equation of lower supply.
What local ranchers and farmers are experiencing was confirmed by Purina Feeds consulting nutritionist Doug Hawkins at Clifton Feed and Service’s annual cattle producers meeting Aug. 13, a tradition the local feed store has upheld for 45 years, starting with a good meal and a prayer.

The BAC will welcome singer-songwriter Jimmy Fortune of Statler Brothers fame to serve as judge for the 11th Annual Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic Oct. 26.
For the Bosque Arts Center, the 11th Annual Texas Troubadour Country Music Songwriting Competition provides country music singer-songwriters an opportunity for recognition of their talent as they were put in the spotlight and celebrated.

JOURNEY UNDER THE SEA
Deep Dive Into An Adventure: Tin Building Theatre’s Rising Star summer camp packs the house for four performances of Disney’s musical “The Little Mermaid Jr”

The Bosque Arts Center Tin Building Theatre’s Rising Stars summer camp for youth performed Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr to four sold out performances on Aug. 1-4. It was a considerable commitment for both campers and volunteers to work on the production every day from 3-6 p.m. for five weeks.
But with the TBT filled to the gills, the crowd of family, church family, friends and neighbors, caregivers and teachers ready to beam proudly at their child’s amazing achievement made it all worth it.
This production reinstates the TBT summer camps in a big way – both in the duration and the ex*****on. The 20 TBT summer camp youth in ages second through sixth grade practiced with experienced and talented musical minds all throughout July as their journey under the sea started with auditions June 25-26.

CONNECTING PAST & PRESENT
Wrapping up Bosque Museum’s summer camp series, STEM On The Frontier teaches pioneer technology to youth from all over Bosque County

While the pioneer days are far behind us, knowing what it took to be able to survive on the frontier provide valuable lessons.
At the Bosque Museum STEM On The Frontier summer camp July 16-19, 14 youth ranging from second to sixth grade came from all over the county, split between boys and girls, connected past and present technology, journaling their activities, all while having fun playing games and making new friends.
With this camp, the museum ties into the Texas Education Agency’s focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, aimed to prepare students for future career opportunities by using a method of hands-on teaching and learning where students learn to apply academic content by creatively solving real-world problems with innovative design-based thinking.
