The students embark on their MIT education with individual ambitions – to engineer infrastructure in Tanzania; to secure a better life for family in Nigeria; to contribute to post-genocide reconstruction in Rwanda; and, to advance democracy in Zimbabwe. 3. How does the West use this as a distraction for more pertinent issues?

Former Shell expat narrates his two-year experience working in colonial Africa, which was a favoured destination for British expats. How times have changed!

This 80-page A5 book, which I read in an hour, is packed with photos and interesting stories of people he met from Julius Nyerere (four years before he became President) to the former Sultan of Zanzibar.
