We went on a trip to High Steel bridge over the weekend and I took the opportunity to practice using the DSLR camera I am borrowing AND to get some epic mobile phone photography shots. This is a shot taken with my Samsung Galaxy S21 ultra.

Here is some cool info about high steel bridge. The bridge was built in 1929. It is 365 feet from the ground making it the tallest railroad bridge ever built in the US. The bridge is now no longer a railroad bridge, it was converted to a roadway in 1964 for logging trucks.

Going here was an amazing stunning experience and I'm so glad I could capture some of it's beauty to share with you all.

This is a great example of how Your set up and angle matter. These glossy stickers I designed and created have been a beast to photograph. ESPECIALLY this Black cat.

The before photo was on the plain plywood
You can see the reflection from the ceiling and the shadow on it from me above it photographing it. The wood background isn't very appealing but it was what I had at the time so I went with it. I was using a single video light since again that's all I had.

Fast forward to the after photo
I got a back drop upgrade from poppy and bee surfaces and changed my lighting to two smaller LED panel lights. I also got a better tri pod set up. I also used some sticker tweezers to hold the sticker vertical and angled it just right to get the least amount of glare.

With mobile photography the biggest thing is light! So very many people recommend "just use window light" BUT I live in the pacific Northwest. With gray cloudy skys most days it honestly isn't enough light for the tiny sensor a phone has. So, in this case gear does matter. Do you need the fanciest expensive lights? NO my lights are definitely not expensive or fancy BUT I made sure they came with diffusers.

These photos were both taken with my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. No added lenses, filters or anything.

I used a DSLR camera on my own today for the first time. I will say it is soooo much easier than mobile. Phones ARE so, AMAZING at taking photos, but it takes a lot of time, patience, and skill to learn how to take good photos with them.

The benefits of smartphone photography are that for many of us, our phone is always with us. They are very compact, and gear of then is so much cheaper than a DSLR camera.

I will be spending the next month learning how to use a DSLR camera. I will always use my phone because it is always with me, but this might be opening a door I have been afraid to open for a long time because I am afraid I will absolutely fall in love with it. 🤣

Something new I have been up to over the last year is not only getting back to creating artwork but myself and my family have started overlanding! This has been a great way to practice and use my video and photography skills.

I have never been so greatful for being able to capture and document our trips.

It was a busy 2023! Now it's 2024! 🤯 I haven't forgotten or stopped filming or doing photography. I am always practicing, always striving to master taking video and taking the best photos as I can with the camera in my pocket. Here is a glimpse of what I have been up to and what has been taking up all my time other then our four young humans.

As you can see overlanding (off road travling), art and having my own sticker shop have been keeping me busy. What all have you all been up to over the last year?

Walking around my teen years stomping grounds with my SIL, we stumbled upon a muralist and his amazing work in progress. This was definitely a moment that needed to be captured in time. We stood there chatting with him for a moment and this was the point in time I learned that the lower part of this specific wall is a free wall meaning it is there for people to use to express their artist abilities or to practice making wall art. As an artist myself I found this information to be really awesome. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Today is Memorial Day here in the USA. This is a day when we send gratitude and remember the men and women that have sacrificed their life serving our country.

So thank you so very much to those that have served and lost their lives for our country. Your sacrifice is part of how our country has become what it is.

My last dual tone photo. Another gear photo becuase why not? Gear is seriously always fun the photograph especially this walnut case and 58mm lens from moment. I really wished there was more then black as an option for the newer galaxy phones. Maybe one day there will more options avaliable or even this amazing walnut case. 🥰🤩 Also this 58mm lens is AMAZING! It's seriously my favorite so much so I sometimes forget to use my other lens options and I have several. 😆

Fungus any one? I captured these beautiful little guys while I was out on a nature walk with the girls. I just couldn't help myself seeing these growing on this log the contrast and shadows jumped out to me that this is a good opportunity for a black and white photo for the dual tone challenge.

Here is a short video I made for Instagram reels. It is in vertical format so it will look good on your phone if you open it up. 😉 Also, I made the motion graphic at the beginning of the video. Being new to after effects it took quite a bit of time to make it but I am sooo very pleased and excited with how it turned out! Eeee! 😄

Last year was unkind to me as it was to most everyone in the world. I lost two pregnancies with in months of each other and have to have two outpatient surgeries. My second loss really hit me hard and I am so grateful for my clients, friends and family who have been so patient with me while I deal with the grief of loosing a second baby. These are the reasons I stopped posting in 2020. I took time off SSM and it's been really nice.

With that said it is now 2021, my body is looking like it's healing up and that means I can get back to filming, editing videos and creating art work!

2020 wasn't all bad though! I learned so many things, participated in some mobile photography challenges (The flat lay challenge was my favorite and I will be sharing those on here probably fairly soon), My photos were featured in several of Patrick Levar's Youtube videos, I became his Admin for his discord server and managed to do a voice over for a video created by English productions. So even though 2020 wasn't very nice to me still some amazing things happened that year that I am extremely grateful for. Is there anything you experienced in 2020 that you are grateful for?

I have something I need to admit.

Vlogs.

I really miss making them. One of the reasons I got into making films was to make vlogs to record our memories and to show my girls what their mom was like while they were young because as a child you don't remember what your parents were like when you are that age. Vlogs are also stories of what we have done in our lives and having those memories in video form is so fun to have to look back on later. So soon I hope to be getting back to making vlogs once in a while here in between client projects. because my creative soul really needs that outlet to keep film making something fun and not just work.

This is my absolute favorite time of the year! Summer! All the outdoor activities, some sunshine, My kids blissfully playing in the sprinkler and the all the flowers. The opportunities to film things and create memories peaks at the end of this season for me. The creative juices and productivity is the highest for me during this time of the year probably due to the warm weather and the sun being out. Happy summer solstice everyone!

This was my very first short film made in 2018 with a Samsung galxay S6 plus and a zyinu Smooth q gimbal. After amking this video I was compleatly in love with creating films to show people doing things they absolutly love doing not matter what it is.

I miss making these videos. When I decided to start making films for other people so I could get paid for the skills I had learned I ended up stop making these short films. As time goes one I get more and more sad I haven't made one for some time but once I am caught up on editing client videos and social isolation isn't so much a thing any more I will be back at it! What kind of things would you like to see people doing?
