You're setting your goals all wrong! Especially if you fail to recognise the two essential ingredients to success. Believe it or not, will power alone will only take you so far in achieving your desired goals or outcomes. Why? Because if you don't value or believe that you can achieve your goal or outcome, you literally won't get it. So what can you do?

🎯 make sure you have a really well formed outcome written in positive present tense language

❤️ check that you value the outcome or goal that you want to achieve, and I mean do you really value it or are you just wanting to value it?

✨ check what your beliefs are around achieving or attaining the outcome you desire. If you have any limiting beliefs, the road to your outcome is going to be harder than it needs to be.

🤩 or 😱 finally how do you feel, what are the emotions you are experiencing in relation to your goal or outcome? If they are positive and affirming then your values and beliefs are aligned. If you are experiencing negative emotions then it could be an indicator that your values and beliefs are not aligned to your goals or outcome!

There are so many people talking about burnout at the moment. A word that will conjure up a range of emotions and reactions in each of you reading this post. So why do we burnout? What is at the core of who we are that means we keep going and ignore the warning signs? The simple reason is down to this. We are stuck in either a fight, flight or freeze mode created in response to a lack of our basic emotional needs being met over a period of time. Think about this...

😩 When you don’t get something you need how do you feel? Frustrated? Rejected? Isolated?

😡 Now think about that need and not getting it met, over a period of time how does that feeling grow? Numb? Normal? Do you start to adjust to it being there all the time?

👀 And as you are not getting it met how are you focussing on it? Less and less over time but inside it is building up despite your attempts to ignore or fight it?

😥 And finally how is that feeling taking up your
energy, thoughts and time? Either all consuming or like a low background energy zapper?

If you are feeling burnout, then it’s time to stop. Now pause to think about which of your basic emotional needs are not being met. Love and Belonging, Certainty or Significance or all three. If the actions you are taking, in your job, in your life, are about getting one of these needs met and no matter how hard you work, try or put the effort in you just don’t feel them. Don’t suffer with low self-esteem. Build your resilience and your “emotional battery life”, so you don’t feel as empty and unfulfilled. Anyone can feel low or have low self-esteem it is estimated to affect 85% of people at any given time. Considering that our feelings and emotions have a profound impact on the health of our physical bodies in response to “always on” flight, fight or freeze responses, low self esteem is a huge anchor negatively impacting a large proportion of the population.

Stop talking so negatively to yourself. The power your words yield is evident from the way you live your life. The old saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” is one I grew up with and sang it loud and clear with my classmates in school. But words and our self talk in particular, are incredibly powerful forces that influence our subconscious mind. And our subconscious mind has the power to prepare and activate our response to an event or a situation. A part of our brain, known as the reticular activating system, is like a honing beacon listening out for the instructions we are telling ourselves, filtering the most important instructions to our subconscious so we are prepared and ready to take action. So what does this mean?

💬 What you say to yourself (positively or negatively) is an instruction to your subconscious.

⛔️ Tell yourself you can’t do something, you are literally instructing your subconscious and your body not to do that thing.

🏔 Tell yourself you can or even better, that you have done something, are doing something, are choosing to do something and you are instructing your subconscious to look for and do those things.

The reticular activating system will filter the world you experience so you only focus in on the things that are going to help you achieve the outcome you want. Keeping your precious resources available to be used for the right things at the right time. So if you want something, be clear about what it is, and ensure the self talk you are using is aligned to your outcome.

Want to make sure you get what you want? Don’t think of pink elephants! I’m sure you’re thinking of pink elephants, or remember the last time someone asked you not to think of pink elephants. Either way, you get what you focus on. The same is true when it comes to getting what you want in your life. Let’s say you wanted to feel happier when you are around the people in your life. When you’re around certain people you know, that will be incredibly easy to achieve. For some people in your life, it will feel harder and potentially quite the opposite of happy. So how do we get through this and use the power of our mind to get what we want?

🎯 we have to be really clear about what we want and state it in positive language in the present tense such as “I am / I have”

✍️ then write it down so that you form the neural pathways associated with the outcome into a physical association

🔥 follow this up with clear, positive intention, outcomes and beliefs and this will light the fires inside to attract and live your outcome

🧐 check for any limiting beliefs or unwanted reactions, these can slow you down or hold you back in getting the outcome you want

How much fear consumes your life? Fear is a useful emotion. Without it we wouldn’t survive. But what if the things we are fearful of are based on lessons learned when we didn’t have the resources (knowledge, experience, strengths, safety, certainty, love and belonging) to fully understand how real a threat was to us? What if we learned at the time to be fearful because someone else wasn't equipped to access the resourceful state needed to handle the same perceived threat? We know we can learn to be less fearful when we understand how to handle the situation. When we are centred and in the moment and we trust ourselves, we can be fully in a state of unlimited resources that mean we can handle the threat in ways we might find impossible to believe when we’re in the grip of fear. Make friends with fear and conquer it’s grip on your life with these four lessons...

😱 fear is a natural occurring emotional reaction to a learned or perceived threat

💪 our strength to overcome fear lies in the space we create between our triggers and reactions

📚 learning the triggers to our fears allows us the space and time to choose resourceful reactions

🤓 we can change our past learnings and perception of threats and eliminate our fear triggers

A personal breakthrough session is a comprehensive way to clear limiting beliefs, blocks and unhelpful strategies that are no longer serving a useful purpose in your quest to live the life you want. It has taken me until my 40th year in life, to truly appreciate the need for the human mind, both conscious and sub-conscious to be attended to like any other form of self care. If only I had known that I could have processed that experience about guilt, shame or grief in a more useful way, rather than think putting it out of my mind would be the best way to deal with that moment or situation. When I work with people wanting to make a change in their life, I start by asking, these three questions. Give it a go yourself, and start by asking yourself, What do YOU want? What is it that you want in your life, a good relationship, confidence, or to feel like you belong? This starts to draw out, what is important to you, make a list as long as you want. Following this, it's time to work out why you don't have it right now? What is stopping you from having it? Being it? Feeling it? Is it a limiting belief you've held onto throughout your life? An emotional reaction or trigger? Or is it that you don't know how to take the action and next steps to getting what you want? The third question then opens up the possibilities of feeling that it can be done, this lays the foundation for positive and creative problem solving. This is where the magic starts to happen.
