“TORONTO, Feb. 7, 2022 /CNW/ - KPMG in Canada has completed an allocation of cryptoassets to its corporate treasury, the firm's first direct investment in cryptoassets.

The allocation includes Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), as well as carbon offsets to maintain a net-zero carbon transaction to deliver on the firm's stated environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.

"Cryptoassets are a maturing asset class," says Benjie Thomas, Canadian Managing Partner, Advisory Services, KPMG in Canada. "Investors such as hedge funds and family offices to large insurers and pension funds are increasingly gaining exposure to cryptoassets, and traditional financial services such as banks, financial advisors and brokerages are exploring offering products and services involving cryptoassets. This investment reflects our belief that institutional adoption of cryptoassets and blockchain technology will continue to grow and become a regular part of the asset mix," he added.”

“The metaverse is thriving right now, as individuals and companies pile in. A total of $106 million was spent on virtual property in the last week, with purchases of digital land, luxury yachts and other assets, according to data from DappRadar.

The Sandbox, an online gaming world that allows users to own plots of land, has dominated activity. Between November 22 to 28, the platform attracted $86.56 million in unique non-fungible token land sales that are tied to the blockchain, DappRadar said.

In second place was Decentraland, another virtual platform that brought in $15.53 million in sales of digital plots of land. Smaller competitor CryptoVoxels sold digital land for a total of $2.68 million, while Somnium Space, a metaverse platform, sold $1.10 million worth of real estate.”

For instance, search engines in the Web 3.0 era will return personalized insights based on your search context. Centralized servers will be replaced with information present on multiple computing devices. Overall, it will be more of a peer-to-peer internet with no single authority.

Back in early 2018, the owner of Ark Invest said Tesla shares would go from $300 to $4,000 within five years — a potential upside of around 1,200 per cent.

Yet Tesla hit the target early. This January, Tesla shares surged past the $800 mark or $4,000 on a split-adjusted basis.

“If we’re right and companies continue to diversify their cash into something like Bitcoin, and institutional investors start allocating 5 per cent of their funds in Bitcoin […] we believe the price will be ten-fold what it is today. Instead of $45,000, over $500,000,” she said.
