Ultimate Objective. The ultimate objective is to destroy the enemy crystal. There are nine (09) towers for each team at the start of every game. There are ten (10) towers with the inclusion of the crystal. And only three (03) towers are on a single lane for each team. So a team is only required to destroy three (03) towers to gain access to the enemy crystal and obtain the ultimate objective. And by this definition, destroying towers is more important than killing heroes. Hero kills are important as long as it contributes to tower destruction, if it leads the team to the achievement of the ultimate objective. This is what separates a competitive team from a casual team, a professional team from an amateur team. It is an alignment of objectives that ultimately leads to a greater understanding of the game.

The Triumvirate of lanes. There are only three (03) lanes in the game. The center lane, the blue lane, and the red lane. Although, It can be argued that the river may be considered as a fourth lane or as a neutral lane. Technically, there are only three (03) lanes. Taking the ultimate objective requires the team to clear all towers of the opposing team from a single lane. Consistently, all the lanes can not be defended from simultaneous enemy attacks without accurate player movement prediction. And even with accurate player movement prediction, It does not necessarily translate into successful lane defense. Consequently, this is when trade strategy comes into play. A trade is a general term that has a multitude of definitions. But for the purposes of this section, a good trade strategy, combined with accurate player movement prediction, involves sacrificing a single lane in favor of another lane to gain or to retain a strategical advantage. It is an effective counter against quick player rotations by the enemy team.
