As a society, we've normalised buying a t-shirt for $5 and buying something new for sheer convenience instead of repurposing something we already have.

The item itself might be cheap but the cost of it extends beyond the financial transaction. If it's dirt cheap, chances are it was probably made by someone in poor conditions and from unsustainable materials.

Every time we buy something, we're voting with our wallet for the kind of world we want to live in. Choose wisely and where possible, support local and sustainable practices 🌏

If you've already listened to this week's episode with Tamika from you'd know we've been delving into slow fashion! Here are some of Tamika's wonderful tips on creating a sustainable wardrobe. 👗👢

A mindset shift is a big part of the solution to our fast fashion problem. We need to prioritise consuming less and choosing wisely when we do need to purchase something.

Can you repurpose something you already own?
Can you find what you need second hand?
If not, what is the best quality you can afford?

Tamika Bannister's response to the notion that sustainable living, and specifically slow fashion, is not affordable.

Times are tough financially for lots of people right now but every little choice we make towards sustainability is positive. Purchasing pre-loved clothing is a great example of how to choose quality goods at a lower price point.

Even as a child, today's guest had an entrepreneurial mind… making clothes on an old Singer sewing machine and selling them at the Chudleigh store. As the years have passed, Tamika Bannister's business mindset and interest in fashion have remained.

Tamika has channelled this into Spotted Quoll, , a slow fashion label that has been creating beautiful pieces since 2009.

In this episode, we discuss living with ADHD and her relationship with mindfulness, being a local pioneer of slow fashion, the true cost of fast fashion and how to create a sustainable wardrobe.

This is one of the questions I ask all guests and I love hearing their diverse answers! No two answers are ever the same.
For some it's meditation, breathwork, a sit spot or walking, while for others it's noticing the little things like the warm water on their hands while washing dishes.

For me, it's meditation and spending a few minutes in the garden, noticing what's blooming 🌻
How do you embrace mindfulness each day? I'd love to hear below what works for you 👇

Take the time to notice the little things ✨️

I'm currently reading Rick Rubin's book The Creative Act: A Way of Being . It's such a fabulous read, exploring the creative process, where ideas come from and the things that hold us back. If you enjoyed Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic, you'll love this too! 📚

♻️ International Zero Waste Day - March 30 ♻️

Today we celebrate everyone out there doing their bit in working towards a zero waste lifestyle, including Tassie's own innovative businesses The Udder Way and Golden Brown Tasmania Ramble Folk
Swipe 👉 to see a few episodes from the archives with practical tips for zero waste or low waste living! 💛

The UN adopted Zero Waste day in 2022, as a day dedicated to promoting and celebrating zero waste initiatives at all levels across the globe.

The term 'zero waste' can carry negative connotations and leave people feeling overwhelmed by our environmental crisis and guitly if they can't commit to overhauling every aspect of their lifestyle. But as we've heard time and time again from our guests, every little bit counts so do what you can, when you can to live ✨️towards✨️ zero waste. It is important to have ambitious goals because there is a critical need to address unsustainable production and consumption habits, while also bolstering our waste management systems.

What can we do?
♻️ Reuse and repair where possible
♻️ Treat waste as a resource and an opportunity
♻️ Support local businesses doing their best to tackle waste

I'd love hear your favourite zero waste brands or resources below 👇
