💥✨🌎 5 EPISODE ROUND-UP 🌍💥✨
A summary of what a Green New Deal would look like in York, Greenwich and Bexley, Stroud, Chester and...a tease for Saturday's episode - Newham!
York ⛪️
- Car free city! Restrict the use of cars within the city walls
- Devolve more political decision-making to Yorkies
- Encourage local communities to grow their own food
- Support local campaigns in Yorkshire like
Greenwich and Bexley 🛤
- Improve transport, we have hydrogen buses in London, now let’s get some hydrogen trains!
- Introduce trams/trolleys
- Start building with less energy intensive materials (e.g. concrete/steel) like wood etc
- Fix ya old, leaky gas boilers!
- Stop Silver Town Tunnel
Stroud ⛰
- Improvement in transport (e.g. servicing Stonehouse station so people can commute to Bristol).
- Greater local democratic powers (Think Climate Action Networks, hustings)
- A move away from ‘elitist’ environmentalism - climate justice is social justice!
- Go plastic-free
Chester 🌰
- Better transport
- Remove fracking equipment
- A ‘Just Transition’ for workers in the fossil fuel industry & the creation of green jobs e.g. the building of offshore wind farms and solar panels
- Develop a job guarantee to fight poverty and feel part of the community
Newham 🚆
- Stop Silvertown tunnel!
- Create better, well-paid, unionised jobs for Newham residents
- Reduce air-pollution
- COVID has hit Newham harder than the national average. A crisis widens racial and financial inequalities. Understand that there is no climate justice without social justice! There is no social justice without climate justice, too.
