Almost 90% of the adult UK population listen to live radio at some point each week. But how did we get to the radio landscape we have today. Radio has a rich and sometimes illegal history. The Pirates of the Airwaves podcast looks at a part of this history talking to some of the people who were prepared to risk prosecution, fines, and imprisonment to bring an alternative entertainment to people. In many cases, history proved them right as the legal stations of today now provide those previously alternative services.
