It is that time of the year again where the hibiscus coast becomes the warmest place be this winter. The Ugu Jazz Arts and Cultures Festival previously called the UGU Jazz Festival hosts Africa’s finest artists and musicians at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on a world class stage.
Hosted by south coast’s most prestigious events management company Cyassound Holdings, the Ugu Jazz Arts and Culture Festival has become amalgamation of diverse forms of Arts and Cultural expressions thanks to a collaboration with Department of Arts and Culture, Ugu District, Hibiscus coast, Umzumbe Municipality and various sponsors from the private sector as well the involvement of the local community.
This event has become a socio economic catalyst for small medium enterprises which form part of service providers at the event and surrounding local businesses. The travel and tourism sector which soars exponentially during this time of the year from the events attraction of audiences who hail all around South Africa and parts of the globe.
This year the 9th annual event has gone the extra mile by making it a two staged event on the 26th the Diva’s evening which aims to celebrate the livelihood of women where they can get up close and personal with the likes of Zakes Bantwini ,Sbongile Khumalo,Judith sephuma, Thandiswa Mazwai and Heels Over Head and then the 27th of June the main event which includes an all-star African jazz veterans which includes the likes of Ringo Madlingozi,Selaelo Selota, Nabil Khemir, Jimmy Dludlu, Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai, Vusi Mahlasela not to mention the vibrant sounds of Beatnberg, Naima K, Solomon W***y No Nomalanga and Dj Syanda and Mshandiz on the decks.
The main attraction is led by a trail of events which include Isicathamiya on the 13th June which is a showcase and a competition of various African indigenous music and dance groups. The Gospel Festival hosts an amazing spiritual evening with the likes of Sfiso Ncwane who is also an Ugu Jazz Brand Ambassador, Dumi Mkokstad, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Mthunzi Namba, Batusile,Thulani Ka Ndlela and great panel of pastors which include Pastor Msimang, Zondi and Dube.
In upholding the arts and culture festivity the organizers are also hosting a three Day Arts conference which aims to inform and empower local musicians and artists about the industry. The three day conference is a series of workshops, exhibitions and live performances.
