YO MAPS HAS NO CAUSE TO APOLOGISE

It is shocking that Zambia Association of Musicians has come out demanding that Yo Maps should apologise for remarks he made regarding support to at the funeral of late Dandy Crazy.

Either the MAZ President has trouble with comprehension, or is blinded by jealousy.

We have watched the video by Yo Maps and find no insult directed at artistes.

In the video, Yo Maps addressed only the musician who issued remarks disparaging the contribution of food purchases donated at the funeral house.

Using a mix of Bemba and English, Yo Maps said:
"It is shocking a person can be criticising our donation of food at the funeral house, but was seen eating the same food!"

Now, how does that amount to insulting artistes?

But the ZAM President is upset with Yo Maps, and not the little-known artistes who started this sad debate.

Mr President, be fair. Stop petty jealousies.

In the words of Yo Maps:
"Work hard, make money, be happy".

~’Caged For Inciting Mutiny’

……..Where is the Line? The Fine Balance Between Free Speech and National Security.

The recent conviction of Brighton Mwanza, a 25-year-old cyber consultant, for inciting mutiny has ignited fresh debate about the limits of free speech in Zambia. Mwanza, now sentenced to five years in prison with hard labor, was found guilty of using social media to encourage military personnel to resist the government. His tweets, referencing past coup attempts and rising mealie meal prices, were deemed a direct threat to national security.

Magistrate Trevor Kasanda, in delivering judgment, warned that such posts should be “frowned upon” as they undermine the peace Zambia has enjoyed for 60 years. The ruling sends a clear message: the state will not tolerate speech that challenges its authority, even in the form of online expressions.

But at what point does free speech become a crime? Mwanza maintains his words were taken out of context, arguing that he was simply drawing attention to economic hardships. His defense was dismissed by the court, which ruled that his statements were a clear incitement to disobedience within the armed forces.

This case raises urgent questions: Should political frustration expressed online warrant such heavy-handed punishment? Or was Mwanza reckless in his choice of words, testing the boundaries of the law?

Governments across the world walk a tightrope between maintaining security and upholding democratic freedoms. Zambia is no exception. As George Orwell famously wrote, “If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” But when does dissent turn into a national threat? And who decides?

With fugitive politician Chilufya Tayali facing similar charges next month, this case may not be the last of its kind. What is clear is that in Zambia’s digital age, the power of words has never been more significant—or more dangerous. ~’caged

SUSPENSION OF FOREIGN AID BY THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA GOVERNMENT TO THE HEALTH SECTOR PRESS RELEASE

As you might be aware, the United States of America Government ordered a 90-day pause on funding of International Development Programs, including Zambian programs on 20th January 2025.

The Ministry of Heath wishes to inform the public that there is no immediate danger of the country running out of HIV treatment medication. The country has 5 months of stock of these life-saving medicines in our warehouses and approximately 14 months of stock in orders already placed.

Further, in our continuous and useful engagements with the United States Government, we have been informed that a waiver has been issued to exempt humanitarian support, including works to do with health. We will continue working with the American Government to understand and/or define what the package under health includes. We have also been informed that medicines already ordered will not in any way be affected.

There should be no panic and misinformation regarding the state of affairs as every effort will be made to ensure that there are no disruptions to HIV and TB-related services. The country will continue to be updated in event of any new developments in real time.

The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has officially launched the Jubilee Year 2025 Debt Cancellation Campaign, calling for urgent debt relief, economic justice, and transparency in Zambia’s debt management.
The campaign aligns with the biblical concept of a "Jubilee," a time of renewal and freedom, urging international lenders to ease Zambia’s financial burden.

Speaking during the launch at Kapingila House, ZCCB president Most Rev. Ignatius Chama urged the government, creditors, and civil society to work together in fostering sustainable economic solutions.

Zambia has faced mounting debt challenges, impacting essential public services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure. The bishops emphasize that debt relief is not just an economic necessity but a moral obligation to ensure a dignified life for all citizens.
Through this campaign, the ZCCB is advocating for debt cancellation, responsible borrowing, transparent governance, and policies that prioritize the well-being of ordinary Zambians. THRER (3 ) ARRESTED FOR SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIMS ON HH'S HEALTH

The Zambia Police Service, in collaboration with the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA), has arrested three individuals for allegedly spreading inflammatory statements about President Hakainde Hichilema’s health.

The suspects Daniel Augustine Chitendwe (27), Abraham Kapya (34), and Mwale Siliya (27) were apprehended in Kitwe and Kalulushi following investigations.

Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga confirmed that the trio has been charged under Section 69 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act (No. 2 of 2021) for Harassment Utilizing Means of Electronic Communication. They remain in police custody pending a court appearance.

Authorities have warned the public against spreading unverified information online, emphasizing the legal consequences of cyber-related offenses.

AMERICAN AIRLINES JET COLLIDES WITH HELICOPTER IN WASHINGTON DC

An American Airlines flight has collided in mid-air with a helicopter in Washington DC, the Federal Aviation Administration says.

It happened while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport around 9pm local time, it adds in a statement.

Washington DC emergency crews have swarmed the Reagan National Airport. More than a dozen fire trucks and ambulances can be seen.

The plane crashed in the Potomac River, which weaves through DC, according to the DC Fire and EMS Department, external.

The department said in a post on X that fireboats were scouring the river.

The plane that crashed - a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 - can hold around 65 passengers depending on the configuration of the jet.

Sixty passengers and four crew members were on the American Airlines plane that crashed near Washington's Reagan National Airport, CBS news, the BBC's US partner, reports.

The aircraft was being used for a commercial flight by American Airlines and was heading to Washington from Kansas. [BBC News]

A VERY SOBER CONVERSATION.

We had a very sober conversation this evening with with UN Rapporteur Ms Khan who is in the country to investigate specifically the infringements on the right to freedom of Speech.

We have agreed generally that four laws are a subject of controversy in regards the infringement on the right to freedom of speech.

SEDITIOUS PRACTICES is too vague and subject to abuse and must in a normal society be repealed.

HATE SPEECH.infact is a very unrealistic law which is never in the books of laws in most jurisdictions.
This law has been abused and should not be allowed to sit under our books of laws as its is likely to cause dissent.

PUBLIC ORDER ACT

The the POA has been subject of abuse for many years and is the main cause of the infringements on the right to freedom of expression.

CYBER SECURITY AND CYBER CRIMES LAW.

This law is equally too vague and subject to serious abuse of the rights to freedom of speech

These four laws have been highly abused have in the recent past caused do much apprehension and we have reached a stage where we all need to have a serious conversation on these laws for they are not helping us live in harmony.

I'm a cyber security analyst.

I have 10 certificates.

On 20th April I was given a request to investigate a page called Elias Musyani.

I used our system and checked the page it belongs to Elias Musyani he opened it in 2010 and he is the only admin.

Lawyer: Do you know the offense Elias is standing trial for?

PW1: No

Lawyer: Then why are you here?

PW1: I don't know, I was just called to investigate.

Lawyer: Did you obtain a warrant to hack our client's account, and have you provided the warrant before the court?

PW1: I didn't present any warrant before court.

Lawyer: Is that legal?

PW1: I don't know.

Lawyer: Do you, as ZICTA, have any evidence linking Elias' Facebook account to the two counts he is facing before this court?

PW1: No we don't.

Lawyer: So you only came to tell the court that Elias opened a Facebook account in 2010?

Lawyer: Then you have just wasted the courts time your presence here is irrelevant.

PW2: My name is Elton Mulenga aged 30 years old and I'm a musician.

Prosecutor: Please tell the court why you are in court today.

PW2: In January and February Elias called my wife "Long face" on Facebook and other posts.

Defense Lawyer: Objection your Honor, the indictment doesn't include January or February lets stick to the actual dates when everything transpired.

Court: Prosecutor please guide your witness.

Prosecutor: Witness, don't include dates outside the scope of the case.

PW2: On April 8 I was out of the country in Malawi then a video of my wife in a club with guys was trending.

Elias tagged me in the video and asked if I was having an open marriage with my wife and that if it was him he wouldn't allow such from his wife.

I called Elias, and we had a mature conversation.

The next day my Lawyer told me that Elias was still insulting me, so I decided to have Elias arrested.

I also saw a post on Facebook of Elias threatening my family.

Elias also called me and my wife and insulted us

YO MAPS TRIES TO PRODUCE EVIDENCE IN A FLASH DISK

Apparently, the flash disk contained an audio of the altercation he had with Elias but it failed to play.

CASE ADJOURNED

After the audio failed to play, the case was adjourned but Yo Maps was still on the stand as a State witness.

PW2: This all issue affected me and my family such that I even stopped sending my child to school for 3 months.

Lawyer: Do you know the charge Elias is facing before this court?

PW2: No.

Lawyer: Then why are you here as a witness?

PW2: I'm affected.

Lawyer: Do you know Elias?

PW2: No

Lawyer: If you don't know him, how did you get his number?

PW2: I got it from my wife

Lawyer: How did your wife, a married woman, end up with Elias number?

PW2: I don't know

Lawyer: You said Elias posted a video of your wife when she was trending and said if it was him he can't allow his wife to be in such a situation with other men and asked if guys are having an open marriage

PW2: Yes he did

Lawyer: You are a public figure and international musician are you aware that members of the public can give an opinion about your life and that of your wife when it is in public domain?

PW2: I'm not aware

Lawyer: Do you know the men who where with your wife in the said video?

PW2: Yes they were boyfriend and girlfriend so they were just having fun.

Lawyer: Boyfriend and girlfriend? But you as husband was not present at the time and you were in Malawi?

PW2: They are friends

Lawyer: That's not the question.

Lawyer:.......let's proceed back to Elias.

If I put it to you that Elias knows your wife, and they have been communicating and have a relationship, what would you say?

PW2: It's a joke....

Lawyer: Do you know all your wife's friends?

PW2: Yes

Lawyer: Do you know who a girl called Terisai a friend to your wife is?

PW2: No

Lawyer: But you said you know all her friends

(BBC) The speed at which the new Chinese AI app DeepSeek has shaken the technology industry, the markets and the bullish sense of American superiority in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) has been nothing short of stunning.

Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen may have said it best. "DeepSeek-R1 is AI's Sputnik moment," he posted to X on Sunday, referring to the satellite which kicked off the space race.

DeepSeek was the most downloaded free app on Apple's US App Store over the weekend. By Monday, the new AI chatbot had triggered a massive sell-off of major tech stocks which were in freefall as fears mounted over America's leadership in the sector.

WHY IS PAMELA SAMBO SOUNDING THIS DULL?

When you try to defend the indefensible, you are bound to say some extremely ridiculous things.

In this video clip, Pamela Sambo, newly initiated as an agent for dismissing human rights complaints against the Zambian government, has found herself asking a very stupid question.

Her question is meant to aid the Zambian government in portraying that opposition and media are making too much of the country visit by Human Rights Rapporteur Irene Khan, whose mandate is freedom of expression and opinion. Hence, she asks why Zambians virtually ignored the visit last year of The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Genocide.

How stupid can someone calling themselves Dr Pamela Sambo actually be to ask such a question?

Zambians have no experience of genocide. But they are hyped up over Irene Khan's visit because the current government has launched a systematic State-led assault on citizens' freedom of opinion and expression. And they are feeling it everyday. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BTVGUfWuN/?

A person who does not understand this simple has no business leading the Human Rights Commission. She seems too user-friendly for the New Doom government of Hakainde Hichilema.

No wonder she saw no Human rights violations in Mumbi Phiri being arrested over false reports of aggravated robbery and being in custody for 14 days, simply because, according to her, she was allowed visitors and food!

The kind of stupidity Pamela Sambo has so far displayed makes one propose she, and others being paid for working at the Human Rights Commission, should later be probed for abetting human rights abuses by this government.
