I've spent the last month reading Lord of the Rings with an old friend of mine. We go chapter by chapter and discuss weekly. I like to call this an "intentional reading" of the text (which sounds much better than "two person book club"). Apparently Stan Lee told Mark Millar, the brain behind Jupiter's Legacy, to leave Marvel because he was destined for greater things. If the main character, Utopian/Sheldon Sampson (Josh Duhamel), is any reflection on Millar himself then I understand why Lee would have told him to strike out on his own - he is clearly not a team player. I have spent days inside of this universe and I never know if I'm inside Capitan America, Smallville, Treasure Island, or a Hallmark movie....

I used to romanticize pain when I was younger. It seemed the best solution, because I was surrounded by it and I wanted to put it to a purpose. When lockdown first started, I made a pact with a friend to do yoga and Duolingo every day. She kept up with the yoga, and I'm currently pushing 400 days on my Duolingo streak. Last summer I watched Narcos: Mexico to brush up on my conversational Spanish (that was a mistake). This year, I've been binging Gentefied on Netflix. By "binging" I mean "watched the entire first season in one sitting" which was easy to do considering that there are ten, half hour episodes....

I read an article recently comparing Taylor Swift to the Beatles, because she recently broke a record that they've been holding for decades. She has released more #1 albums in a shorter time than The Beatles did. There's something about comparing anyone to The Beatles that always rubs me wrong. I cannot express this enough – DO NOT BINGE THIS SHOW. It has been a pretty traumatic day for me over here. A constant sob fest. I think that I’m done, I think that *this* story won’t hit me – I mean I have no emotional memories of the Vietnam War – but NO. I repeatedly cried so hard that my partner laughed at me while my tears soaked in to my cat’s fur.
