front page: Senior officials who have been fired from the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have kept plans about their next course of action close to their chest, with some of them avoiding questions altogether and others asking for ample time to review the party’s decision.

Whoever thought it was a brilliant idea to issue a statement condemning DPP's expulsion of its members, lacked even the most basic political foreoght. In fact, it's a masterstroke of political naivety. And I'm being very careful in my choice of words here, trying really hard not to stray out of bounds of decorum.

How could it not have occured to the writer that the statement would raise the eyebrows of even those of us who poured scorn on rumours that it was MCP stirring the Nankhumwa shenanigans? And come to think of it, was the writer born yesterday? Otherwise, he or she could've remembered that MCP opposition days are littered with suspensions and expulsions of members it considered intransigent.

Rabson Chihaula writes ...

"One of the leadership problems with President Chakwera is that he gives his people the rope to hang him with; he is too quick to make promises which he only realizes later that he can't keep.

It started with him promising that he would resign in two years if he failed to change the way we ran things as a country. That promise was not even necessary for his campaign. He only trapped himself.

Several promises followed from the day he was sworn in and he kept none of them. Some times, he goes to the extent of giving deadlines and ultimatums to himself which he can't keep. Why give people the rope to hang you with ?

I blame his advisers and team at State House. They should have taken note of this weakness in the president long time ago and work on making sure that he frames his speeches cautiously. It is very shameful to create a legacy of a leader who couldn't keep any promises he made, imposed deadlines on himself which he couldn't meet, and always lived against his own words.

Here is my proposed solution. It's easy: stop making any promises, altogether, and you will break none. You can't be accused of breaking a promise you didn't make. Don't give deadlines. And don't talk too much. Learn to inspire with action and surprise people with results.

Advisers and State House team, please cover the boss. He is too exposed, and he gives people too many ropes. One day soon, they will succeed to hang him."

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice president for Eastern Region who is also member of Parliament for Machinga Likwenu Constituency Bright Msaka says caring for the elderly and protecting them from all forms of violence and abuse should be a collective responsibility.

Msaka added that government must ensure that elderly people are taken care of.

He was speaking today in the area of Senior Chief Sitola where he cheered the elderly people and handed over a house to an 84-year-old woman as part of Christmas celebration.

Group village headman Mpotola commended the legislator for the gesture saying elderly people deserve all the respect and should enjoy the right to food and right to protection as any other person.
