There’s a difference between knowing how to do something and doing it. And this is precisely why we founded From Script to PreProduction. We’d all made shorts and written screenplays and taken classes and had notebooks full of notes on how to put together the packages necessary to move forward - it wasn’t happening.

At the From Script to PreProduction lab for women filmmakers, you will make all the materials you need to move your narrative feature forward – loglines, synopses, pitches, lookbooks, pitchdecks, reels, websites, schedules, budgets, and business plans. At the end of the six-month lab, you will be ready to go out and get partners and financing.

Last year we added a Writers Boot Camp that focuses on the script and is open to anyone wanting to make revisions in a structured environment. At the end of the two-month boot camp, you will have a new draft of your screenplay or pilot and be ready to apply to the lab.

We invite you to join us.

APPLICATIONS to FS2P are OPEN on FILMFREEWAY!

The From Script to PreProduction lab for women filmmakers helps you develop all the materials you need to move your project forward – loglines, synopses, pitches, lookbooks, pitchdecks, reels, websites, schedules, budgets, and business plans. We bring in guests to vet your presentations. And we introduce you to the industry at our Producers Panel. At the end of the six-month lab, you’ll be ready to go out and get partners and financing.

Last year we added a Writers Boot Camp that focuses on the script and is open to anyone wanting to make revisions in a structured environment with the support of fellow writers. At the end of the two-month boot camp, you’ll have a new draft of your screenplay or pilot and be ready to apply to the lab.

And it’s working. 45 filmmakers have gone through the lab. As of last month, they’ve made seven features – two more are shooting now. Our filmmakers have taken control of their filmmaking careers and are moving forward. Join us.

This wild Kingfisher's grandparent, I found in the garden, nearly dead, some years ago. Nursed him back to health, and set him free. The next morning, the family swooped down, past me, in gratitude.
A couple of years later, I awoke to find the next generation, a parent of this bird, waiting for me on the terrace, his wing seemed broken. I picked him up and examined him. He never flinched, and stared deeply into my eyes. A thorn had locked his wing from operating. I pulled it out, and set him free. Without fail, he passes my window every day at the same time, crying out to me.
This baby, sat in the tree, eye to eye with me, then flew directly to my hand, and sat there for several minutes, before flying away.
Intuition, compassion, good intent, those essences of love, was all we had. Pure, unspoken.
An energy that has no end, and passes silently onward, much further than we can imagine..

As we do every year, IndieWire is looking ahead at the next two years of studio features directed by women to get a sense of who Hollywood is elevating in still-rarefied spaces.

The next six-month session of From Script to PreProduction starts in January 2023 on Zoom. Applications open on September 16th on FilmFreeway:

In this lab, women writer-directors work together to create everything they need to set up their narrative feature projects – loglines, synopses, pitches, lookbooks, reels, websites, schedules, budgets, and pitch decks. Plus they become part of a creative community and gain the support and confidence to get their projects made.

Covid precipitated the move online and it’s been great. Zoom has meant that we’ve been able to include filmmakers (and filmmaking teams) from all over the world, it’s much easier to share our work, it’s allowed us to bring in more guests and instructors, and we now have a Producers Panel that meets at the end of each lab and personally reviews all the materials the filmmakers have created and suggests next best steps.

This past year saw several new features and proof of concept shorts shot by our alums including Cinder Chou’s feature Artist Unknown, Brooke Berman’s feature Ramona at Midlife, Gabriella Moses’ feature Boca Chica, Eugina Gelbelman’s feature The White Goddess, and Deja Bernhardt’s proof-of-concept short Hawaiian Sugar – for which she was awarded a grant covering her entire budget when she submitted the materials she developed in the lab.

So the lab is doing what we’d always hoped it would – it’s equipping women with the skills, tools, and community they need to get projects financed, made and out in the world.

Last Call! Applications to our next session – January to June 2022 – close this Friday, November 12th at midnight Eastern.

Think about it. How are you going to spend this winter? This spring? Depressed about Covid? Anxious about the mid-terms? Or inspired and engaged and building all the tools you need to take your film out and get it financed and produced.

At From Script to PreProduction you’ll create loglines, synopses, pitches, lookbooks, reels, websites, schedules, budgets and pitch decks. And develop lasting relationships with fellow filmmakers and industry mentors.

If you want folks to invest in your vision, you have to invest in it first.

Raising money is a challenge. And so many of our filmmakers with larger budget films are using the tools they developed with us to craft features with budgets they know they can raise. And they’re making them! They’ve learned how to pitch and produce and promote and now they’re free to create.

At From Script to PreProduction you’ll develop all the elements you need to move forward - loglines, synopses, pitches, lookbooks, reels, websites, schedules, budgets and pitch decks.

Applications close November 12th. The Lab runs from January 8 – June 2022 every Saturday afternoon from 2-5pm Eastern on Zoom.

Always so proud of our wonderful filmmakers. It’s no accident that they’re constantly being recognized. They’re chosen for FS2P because of their talent and are able to develop their projects and create terrific materials and packages in the program.

Out of thousands of entries, two of the nine finalists of Tribeca’s AT&T Untold Stories contest went through FS2P!

Congratulations to Gabriella Moses (Leche - a gorgeous magical realism drama about a little girl who’s an outcast in a Dominican community until she discovers she can perform miracles after she resurrects an albino deer) and Clarissa De Los Reyes (Johnny Loves Delores - a heartbreaking love story set during the 2008 recession in the Filipino community in Queens about a lonely remittance clerk who marries for money for the sake of the undocumented immigrant he secretly loves.)
