With a new year comes a call for a new anthology, so this year my theme is starting again. I have found over the past few months so many of my friends and poets in my community were in various states of flux in their personal lives. The project doesn’t currently have a title, though I think it’ll come from a submission this time, and the money made from it will go to either a women’s domestic violence charity or Shelter. The submissions will be open for the full year with a release date for 2025. I can’t wait to see what you all submit.

As always a maximum of five poems, no word count, no line count and email through to [email protected]

When I first started Dark Thirty I didn’t really want to publish Ergodic poetry, mainly down to a lack of understanding of the layout; and then I met Ashley. What I was sent was this collection soaked in trauma, with magnificent word choices. How sparse and vivid the pictures she paints makes the book feel more timeless than what the book could ever be. The emotional depth found within, along with the layout and that the cover that’s reminiscent of Shadows Collide With People by John Frusciante. This is one of the best collections that will be released this year, and I’m so proud to have it in the Dark Thirty catalog. I present DTPP19

2023 recap.

I went into the year with only a few books planned, and the intention of only releasing six books, that didn’t exactly go to plan; ten individual works were released, a collaboration book, and an incredible anthology. From the perfect books of City Gothic and I Don’t Have The Words For This, the heartache of Theseus And I, the collaborations between Rhys and Elijah on Animate and Lumin, the personal journals that are Conversations Between The Sun And The Moon, I’ve Birthed An Idea Of You and Bruises. The magnitude of both Long Division and Jaded. The Anthology that I thought never was going to be, which is a collection that I am so proud of and the number of people that donated their work to a cause which was so important to me.

My question to you, which from our catalog was your favourite book? Cover? Poem? Line?

I remember watching an interview years ago with the band Warpaint, in which they said that you should always be big in your intentions, and I feel that has been accomplished this year, I can’t wait for you to see the plans for 2024 (there will be merch FINALLY!)

So from DTPP7-DTPP18, thank you.

The year started with Rhys, when he came back to me a matter of months after the release of Animate with a second book, the original plan was to make it the first release of 2024, but the book that was scheduled for this slot was never handed in, so I moved this up, and this is a book as amazing as the psychedelic cover, between Rhys and Elijah, they captured the essence of a morning writing session in Bermuda. I see this collection as a time capsule of being carefree. A book I have and will enjoy returning to for a lifetime. I present DTPP18.

Say her name is a book that almost never was. When I first announced that I was going to do the anthology, the poems that were initially submitted were absolutely amazing, but submissions slowed down and I felt that there wasn’t enough for me to have a substantial body of work. With the new year came a revitalised series of submissions, which again were fantastic. If book awards weren’t a case of popularity cliques and the highest bidder by the big presses, I believe this book would receive plaudits, nominations and awards; sadly that’s not how the publishing world works. As I’ve always stated, all the money made from the book will be donated to my local women’s refuge, that will be handled by my amazing friend and feminist Kath at Swan Beauty. This is a book that I’m so proud to have in the Dark Thirty catalog, and I can’t wait for you all to read it. I present DTPP17.

Joel Anthony Ciaccio is one of those poets who really takes his time when it comes to working on a collection, so when in one of our FaceTime sessions where we discuss poetry and critique our most recent works, I would have been working on Desire DTPP6 and I made the suggestion of publishing his next book, he agreed and I didn’t think about it for a while until he asked me when I would need to have the book finished by, I told him when with the stipulation that his poem Dog had to be in the collection (Dog was one of the poems that we discussed on his podcast) the final collection that I was sent was something close to brilliant, with the space between the words allowing for a whole world to be created in the mind of the reader. I hope you all enjoy the book as much as I do.

Independent publishers are allowed to submit six poems from their releases of a calendar year for the Pushcart Prize, so of the twelve books which will be published this year, it made the act of going through each book, searching for the right poems which said what we wanted to say. From a long list of twenty and the multiple permutations such a part of my trip away. But the envelope is sealed and will be posted first thing tomorrow morning. So, we are ready to reveal our selection.

Back in 2021 when I got drunk and thought it would be a great idea to become a publisher I had a list of poets that I wanted to publish and one of the first names on that list was Miss Giselle Linder, though I knew it was never going to be an overnight process; so between WhatsApp calls, and all her other projects (most notably the incredible Radio Silence) we agreed on a September release and the manuscript to be handed in by the end of June. The book was sent to me a matter of minutes before the deadline we had set. When I read through I knew that I had been sent a masterpiece. This is one book that I will put the word perfect to. adam

Last night adam and Bethan Keogh were in Paris to watch Radio Silence written by the amazing Giselle Linder who will be releasing her new book City Gothic on September 24th (for anyone who wants to know why that day, Nevermind, BSSM and Low End Theory were all released on that day)

Initially, when approaching Bruises, I wanted to incorporate work from fifteen brilliant poets in response to my poetry. I knew I wanted to have a collective experience that acted like a therapy session for the depression I had been suffering with during the time of writing the collection. Between the constant search for godshots, microchopped words and explaining my asexuality, it was important to me to approach it in a way that was healthy for me.

This is for my barber, Chey, her wisdom whilst I was in the chair is laced throughout the collection, reflected in my honesty which enabled me to get better. I learned thereafter, that the colour purple – that’s the colour of community. It fits, on the hive mind of what I was after, I often find my life at a juxtaposition when I visit Chicago, this time I wasn’t visiting, it was just written. All said and done, I hope someone finds solace in the words of DTPP14.

Ms Bruzon was someone who I wanted to work with from my first interaction with. I knew I wasn’t going to get something I would understand from reading it once, I’ve read the bilingual pages multiple times and I’m still finding new lines and being amazed by what I have between the English and Spanish showing her Cuban roots, the lyrical qualities of the book are absolutely mesmerising. This is one of those books that you wish you had written. With that said, I present DTPP13.

When I first spoke with Jade about releasing a book for her, she wanted to have a single book. When I got to reading and arranging the book, what I had was too much for a single book, so after much back and forth and chopping, the book became two books. With the second book scheduled for next year, for now I present DTPP12

Submissions are now open for the third anthology, which will be entitled

Forgotten Fragments Of Time

With a theme of memories and how nothing lasts forever. as always with themed anthologies all money made will be given away, and from this anthology, it will go to the Alzheimer’s Society. With frequent collaborator Faye Alexandra Rose nailed the artwork. On April 25th my grandmother died of Alzheimer’s, so this is for her.

Submissions are open until December 31st, with the planned release for April 2024

Firstly, thank you to everyone who submitted for the anthology, I can’t wait for everyone to see the final book when it’s released on November 10th. Secondly, thank you to Sara Sabharwal for giving me the spark and galvanisation to make me return to the anthology and finish it.

Like I’ve always said with regards to any money made from the collection, it will be donated to my local women’s refuge. The catalyst for the anthology came from a poem that I wrote called ‘You Should Be Able To Walk Home’ which came out the state of affairs from the Sarah Everard murder.

So please see the full list of poets on the next slide,

I didn’t quite know what I was getting into when the email 📧 came through titled Slutpop, I had books that I was working on at the time; and I was aware of Mimi through the first anthology, what I received in Slutpop was a whole different kind of poetry to anything I had read before, the idea of including emojis in the writing ✍🏻 was so novel to me. Slutpop is the prototype for 21st century poetry, it pushes the boundaries of what is possible and acceptable in poetry; and I absolutely love it 😍 I present DTPP11

23/04/2023

When I approached Rheign about releasing her second book, I didn’t realise that I was going to acquire a friend for life. We bounced ideas on the cover, layout, title and the book at a micro level. When receiving poems, the elements of survival mode juxtaposed with the optimism pulled completely on my heartstrings. People say not to judge a book by its cover, but the emotional depth matches the light dark sides of the portraits. A must read book.

17/03/2023

From the first email I received I knew before reading the manuscript that I wanted to work with Eleanore, to be entrusted with such a sensitive subject in that of Roe vs Wade it was to take my full attention, when I started reading my way through the book, I was fully aware that I was given a perfect book, something that I didn’t think I was ever going to have in my hands. The word placement felt like something Frieda would have done, the case will continue for as long as time will allow it to, and this book should be quoted in the never ending argument. I Don’t Have The Words For This is the book you need to have this year.

I will always remember when I first read Theseus And I, it was back in October, I had just come back from a trip to Eindhoven, and I had been sent this fragile ergodic, near perfect collection that I had to release; I don’t even think I had finished reading the book when I sent the email back saying it was a project that I had to pick up. When I saw the cover I saw more of the scope of the project. The kintsugi makes that cover. Eleanor is a woman who I’m so grateful for entrusting me with her delicate project, and I hope to work with again in the future.

When I was sent the manuscript for Animate it was the first time I worked with someone outside of my writing circle. What I found was a collection of heartfelt poems that became lodged in my head for days, the poems were so beautifully crafted, I hope to work with him again. With regards to the Women’s Rights Anthology, I do plan on releasing the book, I even have the artwork done by the fabulous and constant collaborator Faye Alexandra rose which I will include. The issue I had was I didn’t feel that I had enough work to release the book at the price and size that I wanted. So please keep those poems coming in, DM us, Tag us. This is a book that’s too good to be sat in my To Be Finished folder. The deadline will be May 31st.

After our first full year in existence, we have submitted six poems for the prestigious Pushcart Prize. Taking one poem from each of the six books released this year. It was a tedious process in picking which to submit, but we feel that it shows the best cross section of the standards that we aim for.

07/10/2022

When I sat down with the intention of writing Desire I knew what my objective was, to write a book of love poems that never mention the word love. A whole book about one one woman, totally from my perspective, I knew it had to be set in Tallinn, it’s a book that I couldn’t have written at any other point in my life, and it couldn’t have been written about any other woman. I was hugely influenced by Frank Ocean, Floating Points, and James Blake, and in particular his song Are You Even Real? There are no subliminal shots or disses at other writers, I wanted the focus to fully be on her. So to Valeria happy birthday, and to everyone else, I present DTPP6 Desire.

20/09/2022

When I first spoke with Sage about releasing a book together I don’t think that she took me seriously, I might be wrong, I remember her saying, I wouldn’t know how to arrange a book. I was like send me what you think is book worthy and we’ll go from there. I didn’t think anything more about it as I was editing other books. Then early February I got an email from her with a link to 92 individual poems. No name for a book. It was a blank canvas that I could construct and organise a book in an image that was somewhat like Composition No. 1 by Marc Saporta. When I read that line, Closing Shift Dreams. I got a sense of envy that I wish I had written that line. That was the moment I knew I was working with a book that I was going to enjoy being a part of. I present DTPP5 Closing Shift Dreams.

When Daragh first messaged me to pitch his book to me, I became interested in a man stopping life during a time that life was on pause. The small moments that reveal their significance much later in the paradigm of life. The undertones of a brief love affair, unsure if she’s ever going to read the pages. I find myself lost in the pages of the book, as I wait to travel again. I hope that you enjoy the book.

When Faye came to me with this collection I fell in love with the minimalist way of interpreting how cultures look at death. The bleakness that should be portrayed from that statement, but what’s found within the book is a collection that pulls at your heartstrings. A perfect collection. Happy release day.

If you wish to submit, please send a file containing 10-15 poems, including an author bio and your IG handle (trying to remember so many people does get to be overwhelming at times) This is something that I can’t wait to dive into working with so many people on projects that I feel I wish to put my name to
