There’s a new dog in town... and it's a vicious little beast 🔥

Mutt Motorcycles has delivered another thump on the nose to bland motorcycling by releasing the snarling Razorback onto the city streets. A brand new ground-up development housed in a new monoshock frame, the bike has been totally designed and developed in-house at Mutt HQ, Birmingham. The Razorback casts a different shadow to Mutt’s self-proclaimed previous ‘fat’ bikes and - as with all Mutt Motorcycles - this new machine has true custom and classic roots. Naturally.

The Razorback is a tall bike. With a seat height of 88cm, it gives the rider a great upright riding position and the ability to have a clear view above traffic. Chucking this fella into corners will induce a bug-faced grin to any fizzog, and those new shocks are tried and tested on off-road machines so this really is a go-anywhere bike with a smooth ride that’s also perfect for urban cruising.

Keen to lend a hand in these challenging times, Maidstone Honda has registered 20 PCX scooters for deployment by the NHS Volunteer Responders scheme effective immediately. The best-selling PTW (Powered Two-Wheeler) of 2019 will be pressed into service to deliver prescriptions and medical supplies to members of the local community most at risk from the virus to stay well.

Often the default choice for couriers in urban environments, thanks to its slim form, agile dynamics and large underseat storage space, the PCX will make the perfect, easy-riding partner to Community Response volunteers and NHS Transport volunteers tasked with assisting pharmacies in the fulfilment of prescriptions and the transport of medical goods between NHS services and sites.

Ducati starts its engines again! 🙌

Ducati is gradually returning to normal, with the steady resumption of production in its Borgo Panigale factory.

The gradual improvement in health conditions has allowed the government to enable companies deemed strategic for the national economy, whose activity is mainly aimed at exports, and for which a prolongation of the suspension would risk losing our country additional market shares, to resume production. This is a first phase of return, which at the moment will only involve a part of the workers destined for the production lines.

The production has been reorganised, going from an eight-hour shift to two seven-hour shifts to allow the minimum number of people to be inside the plant at the same time and thus minimize possible contact.

After many epic Battle of the Kings contests across the Globe, Harley-Davidson saw 18 winners from previous rounds go head to head with an unlimited budget, Sportster build-off as the climax of this custom competition. This year saw 18 previous winners come together to battle to be crowned the King of Kings. 👑

The crown goes to Oscar Peralta and Harley-Davidson Querétaro, Mexico with their stunning “Apex Predator”. The inspiration came from the desire to create their vision of the ultimate Sportster XR1200, using this model as the donor bike for the 2020 competition. Agustin Anguino, Luis Fernando Perea, Rodrigo Perez, Eduardo Trejo and Yeyo complete the Querétaro team.

The team started the design of the Apex Predator with the mantra, “Born to attack without a challenge. Born to live without rival”. Keeping the team focused on creating an aggressive fresh look for their King of Kings entry. The bike clearly demonstrates the technical abilities within the Querétaro dealership, with a stunning hand crafted 2-1-2 under seat exhaust, combined with a vented hand-built tail unit that accommodates the one-off upswept exhaust. Creating a flowing line from the wave brake disc rotors and upside down Showa big piston forks at the front.

The clean uncluttered front end uses the LED Daymaker™ headlamp from a Harley-Davidson® Breakout®. The bikes lines and design are uninterrupted by the TFT flat panel dash taking nothing away from the design. The bike also boasts a collection of custom hand and foot controls, paired with the hand finished Alcantara seat unit. Additional bespoke bodywork incorporates the twin air intakes complementing the stance of the bike. The exceptional Sterling Green paintwork supported by acres of powder coating, add a luxury feel to the final presentation.

Vehicle production at Kawasaki’s Lincoln plant makes way for healthcare manufacture. 🌈

Kawasaki’s North American Manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska, has put vehicle production on hold amid escalating COVID-19 concerns in the USA. Citing parts supply issues from domestic suppliers affected by American shelter-in-place rules, the company is also among a number worldwide, including Kawasaki’s Akashi plant, that have temporarily halted production.

Even though the Kawasaki plant was shut down for vehicle production, volunteers from the engineering group fired up the company’s large 3D printer and began printing face shields 24 hours a day with some of staff actually printing additional items on personal printers at home.

Indian Motorcycle, recently introduced the 2020 Indian Scout Bobber Sixty – a 999cc version of its popular Scout Bobber, that is 10kg lighter 👀.

Powered by the same 78-horsepower engine as the Scout Sixty, the Scout Bobber Sixty’s lightweight, nimble handling, and low centre of gravity will appeal to all riders seeking mean, old school styling at a competitive price point.

“Bringing a stripped-down, old-school Bobber at a lower price is something we’re very excited about. We’re proud to provide such a dynamic offering at a price point that makes owning an Indian Motorcycle extremely attainable to an even wider range of riders,” said Reid Wilson, Vice President of Indian Motorcycle.

The Scout Bobber Sixty maintains the stripped-down styling of the Scout Bobber, including chopped fenders and a confident riding position, while adding several cues that give the model a look of its own. The Scout Bobber Sixty features a blacked-out engine, a modern tank badge, perch mount mirrors, stripped-down headlight, an all-black seat, and all-new five-spoke all-black wheels.

The new BMW R 18: supreme cruiser with historical roots ⤵️

With the new R 18, BMW Motorrad now enters the cruiser segment. Like no other BMW motorcycle before it, this model stands entirely in the tradition of historical BMW motorcycles – both technically and in terms of design style. It borrows from famous models such as the BMW R 5 both technologically and visually, shifting the focus back onto the motorcycle essentials: purist, no-frills technology and the boxer engine as the epicentre of riding pleasure, combined with “good vibrations”. What is more, classic design is combined in the R 18 with clear-cut yet contemporary technology to create a fascinating overall concept – offering a riding experience that is as cultivated as it is emotional.

The most powerful BMW boxer engine of all time with abundant torque 💪

The centrepiece the new BMW R 18 is a newly developed 2-cylinder boxer engine – the “Big Boxer”. Both its impressive appearance and its technology reflect a continuation of the traditional air-cooled boxer engines that have offered an inspiring riding experience since BMW Motorrad began production in 1923. The most powerful 2-cylinder boxer engine ever used in motorcycle series production has a displacement of 1 802 cc. The peak output is 67 kW (91 hp) at 4 750 rpm. From 2,000 to 4,000 rpm, over 150 Nm of torque is available at all times, and this elemental pulling power is combined with a full, resonant sound.

“Thieves sticking out like a sore thumb” Coronavirus and bike theft 👇

The worldwide crisis has brought out the best in so many, but unfortunately there’s a minority that will manage to take advantage of the pandemic for their own criminal advantage. But to get to your motorcycle, they’ll need to be out on the street. “It’s usually a case of not being able to see the wood for the trees,” one police officer is reported to have said. “But now they’re standing out like a sore thumb.”

In August 1968 Suzuki GB took two teams of riders and two Suzuki T20s to Monza, Italy, in an attempt to break several world endurance records. 🏍

One bike - a Suzuki GB T20 - would be ridden by Tommy Robb, Stuart Graham, Barry Smith, and Martin Hodder. The other belonged to Suzuki dealer Eddie Crooks and had been raced by Frank Whiteway in that year's Production TT. It was bored out to 252cc in a bid to set a new world record in the 350cc class. It would be ridden by Crooks himself along with Hans-George Anscheidt, Brian Ball, and Whiteway, who had prepared the bike for the attempt.

🚨 NFDA welcomes MOT exemption 🚨

“The temporary MoT exemption is positive as it will allow vital services to continue and aftersales workshops to prioritise essential repair works on critical vehicles”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers in the UK.

On Sunday 22 March, NFDA wrote to the Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP asking for a three-month MoT moratorium. Today, the Government has communicated that vehicle owners will be granted MoT exemption “in battle against coronavirus”.

The Government said all cars, vans and motorcycles which usually would require an MOT test will be exempted from needing a test from 30 March 2020. The exemption will last six months.

“Vehicles must be kept in a roadworthy condition, and garages will remain open for essential repair work. Drivers can be prosecuted if driving unsafe vehicles”, the Government added.

Practical driving tests and annual testing for lorries, buses and coaches have already been suspended for up to 3 months.

If motorists cannot get an MoT which is due, because they are in self-isolation, the Department for Transport is working with insurers and the police to ensure people are not “unfairly penalised”.

Sue Robinson continued, “We welcome the Transport Secretary’s comments that ‘safety is key’ and aftersales departments will remain open for essential repair work”.

Hillier, who was due to ride for the OMG Racing UK squad in their debut Isle of Man TT Races appearance this year, took to his James Hillier Racing page to offer his company’s 24- and 48-hour postal service to send care packages to those in need.

It comes after the 35-year old tried sending a supermarket delivery to his isolated grandparents, only to find that the heightened demand meant that the next available delivery slot was ten days away.

As a result, Hillier is offering to prepare, pack and send groceries and essential goods to those in isolation, as well as doctors, nurses, police officers and other essential workers who may me stretched during these unprecedented times. As he adapts his yourmotobike.co.uk business to the assist in the pandemic, he’s also urging other businesses to do the same and offer services to help out.

“If one person takes me up on it then it’ll be worthwhile” Hillier said. “We need to work as a team to get through this – the country has to unite.”

Hillier also hit out at those that have been panic buying. “If you’re one of those people who are bulk buying then shame on you, it really is selfish. Try and think of other people and look after everybody” he added.

The Ringwood-based rider finished his video post on a positive note, encouraging people to stay upbeat through this difficult period.

“There is a light at the end of the tunnel, it’s not all doom and gloom, we just need to work together and support each other and we’ll get through it. I have a tool I can use to help others, I have time and I want to utilise that and help people.”

18/03/2020

Harley-Davidson celebrates the legacy of the XR750 and continuing its 100-plus-year motorsports history with the XG750R.

The 2020 season marks the 50th year since the debut of the XR750, a motorcycle raced, wrenched on, and beloved among the American Flat Track (AFT) paddock to this day. To celebrate the anniversary, Harley-Davidson® Super Twins and Production Twins bikes along with the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines NHRA Pro Stock motorcycles will feature the historic color of Harley-Davidson competition motorcycles, Jet Fire Orange, along with team haulers, uniforms, and branded accessories.

“The XR750 is the winningest motorcycle in AMA Pro Racing motorcycle history,” said Jon Bekefy, General Manager of Brand Marketing at Harley-Davidson, Inc. “Harley-Davidson is taking its 50th anniversary as a moment to reflect on the legacy and individuals who have designed, engineered, tuned, and raced the XR750 during its years of competition, and to celebrate Harley-Davidson’s 2020 racing efforts.”

History of the Legendary Harley-Davidson® XR750 model

Born in 1970 with the advent of the new AMA Racing equivalency formula, the XR750 was created by Harley-Davidson’s Race Team Manager Dick O’Brian and team to replace the highly successful outgoing KR750.

Using a Harley-Davidson® Sportster-based engine, the XR750 utilized modified cast-iron heads and cylinders, a magneto instead of generator, and improved oiling. In 1972 a new, more powerful all-aluminum alloy XR750 engine was introduced.

The perfected machine dominated flat track racing for decades to come. Between 1972 and 2008, the XR750 would go on to win 28 of 37 AMA Grand National Championships. The XR750 racked up more wins than any other motorcycle in AMA racing history and earned the description of being the “most successful race bike of all time.”

In addition, the XR750 became a cultural icon with legendary stuntman Evel Knievel at the handlebars. Evel Knievel began jumping an XR750 at the height of his career from 1970 to 1976, and alongside the exploits of the racing versions of the XR750 inspired a generation to ride.

Celebrating 50 Years of Competition, Continuing the Legacy

For 2020, the Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track team will continue to field Harley-Davidson’s production-based tradition for factory flat track campaigns. The updated Harley-Davidson® XG750R flat tracker, powered by the liquid-cooled, fuel-injected and race-tuned 750cc Harley-Davidson® Revolution X™ V-Twin is based on the production engine originally designed for the Harley-Davidson Street 750 motorcycle.

🌞 With warmer days on the way, who’s been prepping for this years’ track days?

BMW Motorrad has announced that it is going one step further with its M Performance range, with the introduction of carefully matched special parts for the new BMW S 1000 RR.

The aim; to further enhance the driving dynamics of the new S 1000 RR not only for road use, but especially on the track.

Particularly light and robust carbon fibre parts are available for the body and fairing areas: M Carbon airbox cover, M Carbon chain guard in conjunction with M Carbon rear wheel cover, M Carbon front wheel cover, M Carbon sprocket cover, M Carbon fuel tank cover left/right, M Carbon fairing side panel top left/top right. The new S 1000 RR can also be perfectly ergonomically adapted to the size of the rider thanks to three different seat variants - M sports seat, M seat high, M seat low.

The M Performance Parts range also includes different footrest versions. The standard footrest system of the S 1000 RR can be upgraded with the M rider's footrests left/right and the M passenger footrests left/right. An M rider's footrest system left/right, especially designed for racetrack use, also offers further ergonomic adjustment options.

For racetrack use, the M remote adjuster for the front brake also allows the rider to adjust the lever travel while riding from the left-hand end of the handlebars. On the left-hand side of the handlebars the folding M clutch lever is the corresponding counterpart to the handbrake lever. The M handbrake lever protector and the M clutch lever protector are available for both levers. In addition, the standard handlebar version of the S 1000 RR can be replaced with the M fork clamp for stub handlebars left/right for making individual ergonomic adjustments.

Two different M Performance wheel sets optimise acceleration, deceleration, handling as well as suspension and damping response. While the M forged wheel made of high-strength forged aluminium already offers advantages in this respect both at the front and at the rear, the M Carbon front wheel and M Carbon rear wheel made of lightweight carbon fibre almost perfectly exploit every possibility for reducing unsprung and rotational masses. The parts range for the wheels also features the M axle protectors.

Built with an unwavering focus on circuit riding, with unprecedented levels of performance and control... can we just stop and stare at this gorgeous CBR1000RR-R SP 😱.

Its inline four-cylinder engine draws heavily on the RC213V-S’s combustion efficiency and low-friction technologies – while also sharing its bore and stroke; it also features titanium con-rods and forged aluminium pistons.

Honda Motorcycles Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) has been optimised and adjustable Start Mode added to Power, Engine Brake and Wheelie Control; a quick shifter is standard. An aluminium diamond frame features a longer RCV213V-S-style swingarm, with six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), 3-level Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) and second-generation Öhlins Racing AB Smart Electronic Control (S-EC) suspension and user interface. New Brembo Stylema brake calipers bite 330mm discs through 2-level ABS. The bodywork and riding position have an uncompromising focus on aerodynamic performance, and the fairing features MotoGP-derived winglets to generate downforce. A full-colour TFT screen and Honda Smart Key are the finishing touches.

Since its original 1992 introduction Honda’s iconic Fireblade has evolved into an incredible 1000cc sports motorcycle. And it’s also been the base of a competitive race machine, on short circuits around the world and the roads of the Isle of Man TT.

But time - and competition - marches on, and for 2020 Honda is drawing a line under where the CBR1000RR Fireblade has been, and looking forward to where it’s going. Two brand-new motorcycles – the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade* and CBR1000RR-R SP Fireblade – have been created, with heavy involvement from Honda Racing Corporation, to carry the legend forward.
