I was terrified when I stepped out of a 9-5 and a stable pay- check. 😓
Let me give you the background story - I got my first “big-break” as a graduate, just before I graduated. 👩🎓
My 9-5 was not your typical 9-5.
I was paid a monthly salary - YES
However, it was completely remote and my first pay check was $1000. 💸
Sounds like a dream right? 💭
But what you DON’T see :
❌ Working for 12 hours straight.
❌ No holidays except Christmas
(not even weekends)
❌ Getting paid half of what my colleagues got, because I’m an Indian and my age (ofcourse!).
I continued this for a year, until I came across the word freelancing.
Honestly, I’m a hasty action taker, and with 1 month of little to no experience of freelancing in 2021 -
I quit my job 😓
What seems brave now, was really hasty - why?
👀 Dry Months (no cash flow)
👀 Living off my savings
👀 No future Plans.
👀 Lots of learning to do.
First 5 months of my freelancing journey were a nightmare.
But, I had no choice.
I could have had freelancing as a side hustle, but after working 12 hours and no weekends, it was really impossible for me to do so.
Normalise focussing on just one thing. ✨
Normalise not having back-ups. ✨
Normalise not having a “plan.”✨
To all those who can manage them, great! Nothing better, but there are people who can’t.
Who need that extra push, and that thrill.
I promise you if you work hard enough, everything will be worth it.
PS: Yesterday I made my revenue sheet again, couldn’t be happier.
