The diagnosis is clear: “Planet Earth and its peoples suffer from a serious kind of multi-causal disease, with four main sources: capitalism, racism, patriarchy and colonialism.”

The illness is deadly, unless the necessary system changes are made urgently.

The good news is that if the four sources are eliminated, we can survive. Not only is it possible to change the system, but many peoples and communities around the world are already doing so.

🌾 International Day of Peasant Struggles

What is the link between false solutions to climate change, peasants’ rights and landgrabbing?
Corporate profits depend on grabbing land from peasants, for extractive activities and also for “net zero” pledges. But “net zero” is a false solution to climate change, and pledges often require impossible amounts of land. Shell’s pledge alone would involve planting trees on land the size of Brazil in order to “offset” the company’s CO2 emissions.

This new rush for land means increased repression of rural workers, peasants and Indigenous Peoples.
Despite this, the peasant movement is fighting back, to curb the advance of transnational corporations, using the UN Declaration on their rights (UNDROP) as a tool.
