Come meet Angel!! She’s hanging out at the White Barn Decor for tonight’s night market! Many of you may remember Angels story from back in March this year. She was spotted for nearly 3 weeks at the Sozo church running loose and unable to be caught. HSMC was dedicated to getting her safe. After nearly 40 man hours spent she was finally caught and has been looking for her forever home since.
FUN FACT- Angels microchip was tracked all the way back to her original adoption from San Diego Humane Society! This girl has traveled a long way and needs a place to settle down!

While Humane Society of Mason County diligently searches for owners we always need fosters to hold during this process and into the adoption process if owners aren’t found. Please fill out a foster application if you are able to hold onto this wonderful girl or have a disire to help with large dogs in the future. Large breed dog fosters are always in such short supply!

Rod Olsen Appointed as New CEO of North Mason Chamber of Commerce

The North Mason Chamber of Commerce, one of the region’s leading business organizations, has announced a change in leadership. The Chamber's executive board has appointed Rod Olsen as the new President and CEO, effective from May 25th, 2023​​.

Olsen brings a wealth of experience to his new role at the Chamber. Prior to joining, he worked with iFiberOne KMAS, helping businesses explore and leverage advertising opportunities on radio and their website​2​. His strong background in building relationships with businesses and understanding their needs will undoubtedly serve him well in his new role at the Chamber.

Before his stint at iFiberOne KMAS, Olsen was deeply involved in running Olsen Furniture, a family-owned business founded in 1936. He took over the business operations in 2008.

Olsen Furniture was a community staple, contributing to various fundraisers, auctions, and local events. Olsen’s commitment to his local community, demonstrated through his work at Olsen Furniture, suggests a strong alignment with the Chamber’s mission of growing businesses and creating a stronger, more competitive business environment​​.

HCSEG's Critical Efforts to Restore Steelhead Populations in Hood Canal Demand Public Support

The Hood Canal Steelhead Project, a significant initiative undertaken by the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group (HCSEG), urgently requires public support. HCSEG is presently seeking $6,500 in donations to continue their monitoring efforts that are vital to steelhead recovery in the Hood Canal​​.

HCSEG, a leading organization in salmon research, restoration, and education, is committed to restoring the abundance of wild salmon and steelhead in the Pacific Northwest. Their work in the Hood Canal Watershed, supported by dedicated donors, volunteers, and staff, not only benefits local salmon populations but also contributes to the ecological diversity of this scenic region​​.

Monitoring efforts are a key component of the Hood Canal Steelhead Project, helping the group identify and address issues affecting the threatened Puget Sound Steelhead. One such significant barrier is the Hood Canal Bridge, which has been identified as a leading cause of steelhead mortality.

Long Live the Kings (LLTK), working in partnership with the HCSEG, Tribes, and state and federal agencies, conducted an impact assessment of the Hood Canal Bridge. The findings were startling: up to 50% of juvenile steelhead that encounter the bridge do not survive the journey past it, largely due to the obstruction created by the bridge's pontoons​​.

In response to this grave issue, LLTK, engineers, and fish passage experts are developing strategies aimed at helping the fish navigate the bridge more quickly and reducing the risk of predation. In 2022, LLTK awarded a contract to Global Diving and Salvage to construct the first fish guidance structure for the Hood Canal Bridge, which is expected to be deployed and evaluated in 2023​​.

Public donations will directly support these efforts, contributing to the ongoing work to remove barriers and nurture a thriving steelhead population in the Hood Canal. It's crucial to remember that wild salmon, including steelhead, are a keystone species. The health and survival of 137 or more local species depend on salmon, underlining the far-reaching implications of this work​​.

Beer Garden Policy
All parties that serve or supervise the sale of alcohol for on-premises consumption will have a MAST permit. They will be vigilant when checking Identification (ID). They understand that they must refuse to sell someone alcohol if they are apparently intoxicated or under 21 and know how to handle situations that could lead to harm, such as a fight between patrons.
All Food Trucks and Vendor Booths will be briefed on wristband requirements. All parties that have been verified 21 or older and interested in purchasing alcohol will be given a wristband. Anyone without a wristband and carrying a clear cup will be asked to leave the premises immediately. If any person that appears to be intoxicated, their wristbands will be taken from them, and they will no longer be able to purchase alcohol. The customer may stay at the business if they are not drinking alcohol or being belligerent.
Customers are only allowed two drinks per purchase, however both parties must present an ID and wear a wristband.
