Anti-Apathy Aunt An Agony Aunt for people who want to change the world but don't know where to start

The Anti-Apathy Aunt wants everyone to know that there is always something you can do to change the world. Whatever the issue you’re concerned about, you don’t have to join a political party or chain yourself to a fence. There are many ways to beat the apathy blues, starting here!

We ask listeners to write in with an issue or question. In each episode, we take on one challenge, then interview t

wo experts who have been active in civil society trying to address it. We take their responses back to the person who wrote in and ask them to tell us what may have inspired them and how they think they might overcome their own apathy or inertia.

If you think you can't do anything about the state of our democracy, you can. Please write to your MP; join campaigns like Make Votes Matter and support human rights organisations, especially those who will challenge this thinking. And share this with your friends and colleagues via social media. Don't be afraid to speak to someone who votes differently from you: though just sharing 'facts' with them won't do the trick. Talk to them about why they might think these rights are important? What's important to them? Rule of law, fair trials, freedom of speech -- all are enshrined in the ECHR. And the ECHR was set up by the Brits, based on "British" values.

“Probably the most shocking thing you will watch today Where is UK media? Where is the outrage?”

Episode 4 of the Anti-Apathy Aunt is finally here! We take on a challenge from a listener: What can older people do to combat climate change? I speak to guests: Nadine Young, an older activist who leads communications at Elders Climate Action, a US-based organisation whose mission is to inspire and mobilise elders into taking action to address climate change; and Andrew Simms, a long-time climate activist who is an Associate of the New Weather Institute and one of the original authors of the Green New Deal. And most importantly? We find out how it has inspired our listener to get involved.

"What can I do about youth violence?....I certainly come away feeling more passionate about doing little things. It doesn't have to be massive. It's just getting stuck in."

Episode 2 of the Anti-Apathy Aunt is out now! The challenge? What can we do about youth violence?

We speak to two inspiring people, Bushra Ahmed and Junior Smart, whose personal stories led them to become actively involved in supporting young people involved in or at risk of violence. Bushra Ahmed became a community activist and mentor to young people after her family business was burned down in riots that were sparked after the police shooting of Mark Duggan; and Junior Smart launched the SOS Project, following his own experience as a young person involved in a gang, and then later imprisoned. I take my ideas back to the person who challenged me and find out how it inspired them.....

In the first episode host Deborah Doane takes on the challenge: how do we get the rich to pay their taxes? For inspiration and ideas she interviews Rosie Rogers, one of the founders of UK Uncut, a grassroots movement that helped to connect the problem of tax avoidance with cuts to public services and sparked a global movement; and , from Tax Justice UK, a civil society organisation whose mission is to ensure everyone benefits from a fair tax system. https://www.antiapathyaunt.com/podcast/episode/2eb4f92d/anti-apathy-aunt-what-can-we-do-about-getting-the-rich-to-pay-their-taxes
