Has the US already started a new nuclear arms race?

U.S. may be igniting a new nuclear arms race, motivated by recent policies and activities aimed at modernizing and expanding its nuclear capabilities. The U.S. National Nuclear Safety Administration's (NNSA) recent production of new plutonium pits (nuclear warhead cores) for the first time since 1989 aligns with efforts to upgrade existing warheads, like the W87-1. This expansion is set to scale significantly, with plans to produce up to 80 pits annually by 2030, marking a significant investment in nuclear weapons manufacturing.

The Washington Post corrected an earlier report that mistakenly claimed Kamala Harris had more donors in every state than Donald Trump. The data excluded donations from one of Trump's fundraising committees. It turns out Trump had more donors in six states: Alabama, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Wyoming. The article now accurately reflects the updated donor data. You can explore how different areas are contributing to Trump and Harris using their interactive map.

A recent study suggests that stopping breast cancer cells from receiving selenium, a key mineral found in Brazil nuts, could prevent them from spreading. Researchers from the University of Glasgow found that depriving cancer cells of selenium may halt their migration to other parts of the body. This discovery could lead to new strategies for preventing the progression of breast cancer, though further research is needed to confirm these findings.

The study indicates that limiting selenium—a mineral found in foods like meat, mushrooms, and cereals—could help control the spread of breast cancer. Selenium, known for its antioxidant properties, is commonly found in multivitamin supplements. The research suggests that reducing the antioxidant effects of selenium in cancer cells may inhibit their ability to metastasize, offering new potential in cancer treatment.

Zuckerberg sacks staff on six-figure salaries for abusing office’s food delivery scheme
Mark Zuckerberg dismisses employees exploiting takeaway credit scheme
Meta (formerly Facebook) dismissing employees for misusing the company's food credit system. Specifically, around two dozen employees were reportedly fired for using a $25 meal voucher intended for food purchases to buy non-food items such as wine glasses and toothpaste. These employees were located in the Los Angeles office, and some had six-figure salaries. The misuse of such credits, over an extended period, led to their termination.
This incident has raised concerns about the misuse of corporate benefits and the scrutiny Meta is placing on its internal policies as part of its ongoing cost-cutting measures.
