Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang notched his 50th Premier League goal for the Gunners against Norwich to become the club’s quickest player to that mark in the modern era, reaching the milestone on the occasion of his 79th appearance.

With his future still very much in doubt, the Gabon international opened the scoring against the relegation strugglers by robbing goalkeeper Tim Krul and then tapping into an unguarded net.

Soon afterwards, he laid on his side’s second against the basement club, delivering the pass from which Granit Xhaka fired under the Dutchman from a testing angle to make it 2-0.

It was, however, his contribution from the opener that fired him into the club’s history books as he notched the mark in a quicker time than legendary figures such as Thierry Henry and Ian Wright, who took 87 and 101 games respectively to reach the mark in the red of Arsenal.

Indeed, only five players have been quicker to the 50-goal mark in the history of the Premier League.

Andy Cole, who came through the Arsenal youth ranks before achieving fame at Newcastle and Manchester United, is the fastest to his half century, grabbing it in 65 games, one fewer than Alan Shearer and three quicker than another former Old Trafford star in the form of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Anfield favourites Mohamed Salah and Fernando Torres both reached their 50 in 72 matches, putting the former Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan forward, who turned 31 last month, in illustrious company.

Aubameyang has been with Arsenal since January 2018, when he joined the club for a fee in the region of £56 million ($70m).

He made a hot start to life in the Premier League as he registered on his debut against Everton in a 5-1 home win, and after two blank outings went on a run of five goals in four games, finishing the season with 10 strikes in just 13 outings.

Leroy Sane's long-mooted switch from Manchester City to Bayern Munich has been agreed.

The Germany international will initially cost Bayern €49million (£44.5m), rising to €60m (£54.5m) and is expected in Munich on Wednesday, Stats Perform News understands.

Sane joined City from Schalke in 2016 in a deal reportedly worth an initial £37m (€40m) and he went on to show flashes of immense ability during his first campaign.

He elevated his game to the next level in 2017-18 and won the Professional Footballers' Association's (PFA) Young Player of the Year award as Pep Guardiola's side clinched the Premier League title.

Sane helped City to another top-flight crown the following year and scored 16 goals across all competitions, though links with Bayern became commonplace towards the end of 2018-19.

Bayern were rumoured to have been interested in bringing the winger back to the Bundesliga last year, however they were said to be unwilling to match City's asking price.

Sane then suffered a serious knee injury in the Community Shield last August and only returned to the pitch in June.

Much of his time on the sidelines coincided with strengthening reports of Sane desiring a move to Munich, and on June 19 Guardiola confirmed the 24-year-old had informed the club he would not be signing an extension to his contract.

As such, Guardiola accepted Sane was either to be sold this year or leave on a free transfer in June 2021.

City have at least avoided the latter scenario, though the reported fee of up to €60m is significantly less than the £137m (€150m) asking price they are alleged to have set in 2019.

Achraf Hakimi has said his goodbyes to Borussia Dortmund as the Real Madrid full-back moves ever closer to joining Inter.

Nerazzurri chief executive Beppe Marotta confirmed over the weekend that a deal was on the verge of being struck for the 21-year-old, who reportedly arrived in Milan for a medical on Tuesday.

Hakimi has been a star for Dortmund this season, having joined on a two-year loan from LaLiga giants Madrid in 2018.

And he said a fond farewell to the Bundesliga club ahead of his proposed switch to Serie A.

"The time has come to close a very beautiful stage in my life. After two wonderful years, I'm ready to leave this club that has given me so much joy," Hakimi wrote on Twitter and Instagram.

"From the first moment, the care and attention by the club and the city has been amazing. Now I know that I was right to choose Dortmund as my home two years ago.

"I want to thank all my teammates, the coaching staff, and all the club's staff for the love and trust they have shown me at all times.

"I also want to thank the wonderful fans who have supported us unconditionally in every game.

"I'll never forget the yellow wall (Glebe Wand) which is simply wonderful.

"Finally, I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting me at all times.

"I hope that one day our paths will cross again. See you soon Borussia Dortmund!"

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles admits talk of Philippe Coutinho and Gareth Bale moving to St James’ Park had him refreshing Twitter “every day”.

The Magpies may soon find themselves in a position to compete financially for the very best players on the market.

That is because a £300 million ($370m) takeover over the club continues to be mooted that will see big money from the Middle East pumped into the Tyneside outfit.

Such funds would allow Newcastle to shop for the elite, with there already suggestions that they could look to lure Bale and Coutinho back to the Premier League from Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

Lascelles admits to having initially been caught up in that hype, although he has now learned to turn a deaf ear to the rumours.

The Magpies skipper told the Daily Mail of the long-running takeover gossip: “It seemed like it would be a fantastic thing from what I was first reading on Twitter.

“At first I was seeing us linked with Gareth Bale and Philippe Coutinho and all this stuff.

“But the longer it goes on... well you don't necessarily doubt it but you realise there is no point every day waking up and just refreshing Twitter. So you just get on with your job. If it happens, it happens and if it doesn't, it doesn't.”

Lascelles added on the possible arrival of new owners: “It's a tough one because as players we don't know if it's a positive or a negative thing.

“If people come in are they going to bring a whole new squad and a new manager? Or are they going to come in and just do up the training ground and add a few players?”

Steve Bruce is trying to keep Newcastle’s focus locked on the present for now, with a top-half finish in the Premier League and FA Cup glory there to be shot at.

The Magpies will be in knockout action on Sunday when they take in a quarter-final clash with holders Manchester City, and Lascelles is hoping to bring a 65-year wait for major silverware to a close.

PSG have agreed a deal for another young academy talent to sign his first professional contract with the club, after Thierno Balde signed a three-year deal, Goal understands.

The 18-year-old defender follows team-mate Kenny Nagera in signing with the Ligue 1 champions, with the deal set to be officially confirmed by the club in the coming days.

Discussions between PSG and Balde have lasted several weeks, with the French side determined not to let another young talent slip through their fingers.

Central defender Balde has impressed senior staff in his journey through the academy levels at PSG, and this season appeared four times in the UEFA Youth League - the junior level equivalent of the Champions League - although they went out at the group stage after finishing behind Real Madrid and Club Brugge.

He also helped them to the quarter-finals of the Coupe Gambardella - the cup competition for French Under-19 club teams - before the competition was curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, he helped the side to third place in the Championnat National U19 League, behind Le Havre and Amiens.

Balde joins 18-year-old striker Nagera in signing his first professional terms with PSG, as the Parisians attempt to protect their best young assets from transfer interest domestically and from around Europe.

Their decisions to remain at PSG are a major boost for the club, who have recently lost defender Tanguy Kouassi on a free transfer to Bayern Munich, while midfielder Adil Aouchiche also looks likely to depart this summer.

With Ligue 1 curtailed and the club handed the domestic title once more, Thomas Tuchel's side only have their currently unscheduled Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue finals to complete on the domestic front, while they await confirmation of who they will face in the Champions League quarter-finals in Lisbon during a condensed mini-tournament style finale.

Update!!😲
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that the club are attempting to sign Achraf Hakimi for the 2020-21 season, while young talent Youssoufa Moukoko will soon be integrated into the first-team squad.

Hakimi is currently on a two-year loan from Real Madrid and has made a huge impact during his time with the Bundesliga club, developing into one of Europe's top attacking full-backs.

Indeed, the Moroccan has scored nine goals in 44 games for Dortmund this season, with four of those coming in the Champions League as Lucien Favre's side exited at the last-16 stage at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

Hakimi has always stated it is his intention to succeed at Madrid in the long-term, with his agent Alejandro Camano having said that talks with the Liga title hopefuls will be held at the end of the current campaign.

Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has been pleased with Hakimi's development at Dortmund but gave nothing away in regards to whether he has a future at the Bernabeu.

Dani Carvajal has been Madrid's first-choice right-back for some time now, and 21-year-old Hakimi is unlikely to want to settle for a squad rotation role at the Spanish club as he aims to continue his impressive career trajectory.

Zorc has confirmed that Dortmund plan to take advantage of any possible opportunity they may have to extend Hakimi's time at Signal Iduna Park, with the Bundesliga outfit potentially looking at another loan deal.

BVB's sporting director said: "His deal is ending. But we're interested in finding a solution with Real again and find a solution where he will be back playing at BVB next season."

Zorc also confirmed that 15-year-old forward Youssoufa Moukoko, who has made headlines having scored well over 100 goals for the club's various youth sides, will be joining up with the Dortmund first-team and could even make his Bundesliga debut when he turns 16.

He added: "The coach and I talked this week about the fact that we want to integrate him.

Update!!😲
Andy Carroll and Javier Manquillo have signed new deals with Newcastle United, while Matty Longstaff has agreed to a short-term extension.

Carroll has yet to score since re-joining his boyhood club prior to the start of the 2019-20 season, making 16 appearances in all competitions but only four starts in his second spell at St James' Park.

The striker, who left for Liverpool on deadline day in January 2011 and then moved on to West Ham, will remain at Newcastle for another year.

As for Manquillo, the Spanish full-back is now tied to the Premier League club until 2024 after penning a four-year contract, with manager Steve Bruce delighted to retain the duo.

"I'm delighted Javier Manquillo and Andy Carroll have extended their contracts longer term," Bruce told the club's website.

"They have both made important contributions this season and I'm really pleased we can continue to call on them beyond the summer."

Longstaff's long-term future still remains unclear, however. The midfielder's contract was due to expire at the end of June but he has now signed on for the rest of the campaign.

Nabil Bentaleb and Danny Rose will be staying beyond this month too after their loan deals from Schalke and Tottenham respectively were extended.

Newcastle also confirmed they have an agreement in principle with Inter to keep Valentino Lazaro, who arrived on loan in January, but Rob Elliot, Jack Colback and Jamie Sterry will all be leaving when their contracts expire.

Update!!😲
Dortmund have confirmed they have completed the signing of Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier on a free transfer.

The Belgium international had been linked with a switch to the Premier League over the past 12 months, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham having all been mentioned as possible destinations.

But it's Bundesliga giants Dortmund that have won the race for the 28-year-old, with Meunier revealing that the club's passionate support, that he witnessed first-hand as PSG dumped the German side out of Europe, helped convince him to move.

Meunier told Dortmund's official club website: "Borussia Dortmund plays exactly the football that I want to play: exciting, authentic and natural.

"BVB are known for their enthusiastic fans and the atmosphere during the game with PSG at Signal Iduna Park really influenced my decision.

"I am ambitious and, like when I was in Bruges and Paris, I would like to win titles with Dortmund."

The sale of Bidvest Wits to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) owner Masala Mulaudzi looks certain to bring about upheavals in the next PSL transfer window.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are expected to be the main beneficiaries of the Tshakhuma takeover, with a number of Wits stars set to join the two heavyweights.

Tshakhuma confirmed earlier this week that they'd bought Wits with all its players. However, a day later they revealed they'll release high-earning players.

Sowetan has since gathered that at least six Wits players whom TTM "can't afford to pay" have agreed to join either Sundowns or Pirates, leaving their initial targets wondering if they'd still be signed.

Skipper Thulani Hlatshwayo and winger Deon Hotto are believed to have already agreed to join the Buccaneers. Getting Hlatshwayo could mean Pirates will end their pursuit of Maritzburg's Rushine de Reuck, while the arrival of Hotto could see Bucs release players such as Austin Muwowo and Paseka Mako.

Leftback Sifiso Hlanti is also rumoured to be on Bucs' wish list. Hlanti joining Pirates would jeopardise Bongani Sam's opportunities at the club and a move elsewhere is likely.

Sundowns look to have bagged striker Gift Motupa and goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, with attacking midfielder Haashim Domingo likely to end up at Chloorkop.

Before the Wits saga unfolded, Sundowns were interested in Maritzburg's Richard Ofori instead of Goss, while Motupa was always their target. Now Ofori looks likely to remain at Maritzburg as his other admirers, Pirates, now want Wits' Brandon Petersen.

On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs are set to miss out on this untrammelled shopping. Amakhosi, who had been linked with Wits midfield anhor Thabang Monare, are prohibited from signing players after Fifa ruled that by signing Andriamirado "Dax" Andrianarimanana in August 2018, they transgressed the transfer regulations. Chiefs appealed the ban and are awaiting the decision on September 8-9.

Breaking News!😲
Lucas Torreira would like to return to Italy despite being treated well at Arsenal, according to the midfielder's agent.

The Uruguay international is in his second season with the Gunners having moved to the Premier League club from Sampdoria in July 2018 for a reported £26million fee.

Torreira made 50 appearances in all competition in his debut campaign, including starting in the Europa League final defeat to domestic rivals Chelsea in Baku.

The 24-year-old appeared set to miss the rest of the 2019-20 season after fracturing his ankle in a FA Cup tie with Portsmouth in early March, though the hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic means he will be fit to feature when the action resumes.

However, Pablo Bentancur - Torreira's representative - has revealed the player's desire to seal a move back to Serie A.

"He was a bit angry about some technical issues, but later recovered," Bentancur told TodoMercadoWeb.

"The injury came, though it was fortunately less serious than expected. Today he is fully recovered, I think he will be an important man in the next [transfer] market.

"I will have to talk to Arsenal. The player would like to return to Italy, but it must be admitted that in England they have treated him very well."

- Calciomercato reports Juventus continue to observe Mauro Icardi but PSG remain in pole position to sign the Argentina international, who is on loan from Inter.

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic is a player in demand.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has been linked to Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United.

But Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing the former Lyon star.

TOP STORY – PSG MAKE PJANIC OFFER

Paris Saint-Germain are rivalling Barcelona and Chelsea for Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, according to RMC Sport.

Pjanic's future is dominating headlines, with the Bosnian star linked to LaLiga champions Barca, while he has been the subject of reported swap deal involving Chelsea's Jorginho.

But Pjanic has a contract offer from PSG, who are also reportedly eyeing either Houssem Aouar of Lyon or Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Update!! 😲

Ryan Fraser "would be a great signing" for Spurs, according to Darren Bent, who can see the Bournemouth star slotting into Jose Mourinho's front three nicely.

Fraser joined Bournemouth from Aberdeen back in 2013, and has since racked up 208 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 24 goals.

The 26-year-old helped the Cherries gain promotion to the Premier League in 2015, but missed their first season in the top flight after being sent out on loan to Ipswich.

He returned to the Vitality Stadium ahead of the 2016-17 campaign with a point to prove, and contributed three goals and eight assists to Bournemouth's cause to inspire them towards a ninth-place finish - the highest in the club's history.

Fraser has built on that platform to emerge as one of the most consistent performers in Eddie Howe's squad, but as it stands, he is set to become a free agent this summer.

Bournemouth have been unable to tie the Scotland international down to fresh terms, amid reported interest from top clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Bent believes Fraser is capable of providing extra support for Harry Kane in the final third of the pitch, and that he has the quality to push Brazilian attacker Lucas Moura out of the team.

“It’s another body in the door but where does he [Fraser] fit in? You look at their front three and he could potentially fit in on the right," the former Tottenham striker told Football Insider.

“You’ve got Heung-min Son on the left, Harry Kane through the middle and maybe Fraser on the right, battling with Lucas Moura. It would be a great signing and if you can get him on a free as well, wow, what a signing that would be.

“If I’m Spurs I’m going all out to get that type of player but don’t make that your be-all and end-all. We saw Manchester United do that with Daniel James and yeah, he did very, very well but I’m sure United weren’t expecting him to do as well as he did.

“If Spurs can get him in on a free, that’s a very, very good"

10/05/2020

Update!! 😲

According to reports in Italy, Miralem Pjanic has reached an agreement to join Barcelona from Juventus this summer in a swap deal.

A midfielder capable of performing in any role between the back four and the attacking line, the 30-year-old arrived to Turin from AS Roma in 2016 for just over €30 million. Since then, he has made a total of 167 appearances in the black-and white shirt, scoring 22 goals and laying on 36 assists. He has also helped them win the Serie A three times, as well as the Coppa Italia twice.

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic causing extreme financial uncertainty for all clubs across Europe, Corriere dello Sport claim Barcelona are looking for a swap deal with Juventus, rather than paying a considerable transfer fee. Players tipped to move in the other direction are apparently Ivan Rakitic and Arthur Melo, though both these players are reportedly keen to remain at the Camp Nou.

Update!! 😲

Real Madrid have ended their interest in Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, according to Marca.

The 27-year-old has reportedly been a subject of long-term interest from the 13-time European champions, and ever since he said about a year ago that playing for Real Madrid would be ‘a dream’ for any player, he has been heavily linked with a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Apparently head coach Zinedine Zidane was very keen on having his compatriot in his ranks. But it seems that in the current financial climate, Real are unwilling to meet Pogba’s wage demands, and despite being expected to make a fresh effort to bring him to the Spanish capital, they have now pulled out of the race for his signature.

It will certainly come as good news for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has already expressed his excitement at the prospect of having Pogba play alongside January signing Bruno Fernandes in his team.

Update!! 😲

Phakaaathi reported on Friday that Kapinga was set to leave Lidoda Duvha for Masandawana when his current deal at the Venda based club came to an end at the end of June.

Read more here: Sundowns beat Pirates to Kapinga’s signature

The youngster has been sensational this season and caught the eyes of many big teams including Pitso Mosimane’s Sundowns and Orlando Pirates among others. But it seems he has chosen Chloorkop as his next destination.

Speaking to SAFM on Friday afternoon, however, Thidiela said they know nothing of the said move and are awaiting Kapinga’s response after offering him an extension on his current deal.

“We are not aware that Kapinga has signed for Sundowns. If he has signed, that’s between Sundowns and him. As Leopards we would still like to keep him, that’s why we offered him a new contract but he hasn’t signed,” said Thidiela.

He also revealed that the club were not yet affected by the financial crisis due to Covid-19 outbreak which has seen some teams cut their players’ salaries.

“At Leopards it’s so far so good, we have been able to meet our financial obligations to players… but we have had to dig deep into our other businesses. That also has its challenges because as a family, we have petrol stations and right now they’re not making money. But we’re surviving.

“But as an industry, we need to come together and see what we can do going forward. We need to have a collective way of doing things if we are to survive this Covid-19 crisis because it affects everyone,” he said.

Thidiela also revealed that as Leopards they are in favour of the league resuming and finishing instead of being stopped. Lidoda Duvha were bottom of the standings when the league went into a break having collected just 20 points off 24 matches.

“We would still like the season to resume and finish if possible. The PSL is us, we are the ones that will go and make the decision. We need to make a long-term decision that will help sustain the league going forward."
