Drop a 💚 for Mental Health Awareness Month ⤵️⤵️

This is such a powerful image! You just never know the struggles that others experience.

We don't always see depression, anxiety, fear, ruminating thoughts, and so much more. This is why it's important to not assume what someone else's life is like.

I saw a friend share on FB, so I'm not sure who to give credit to. If you know, please let me know in the comments.

ADHD & Sensory Overload: What seems to help you or a loved one?⤵️⤵️

Please know that everyone is different with their sensory experiences and what helps them. Many of us experience all kinds of sensory issues in the ADHD community, though 💜

What seems to help you or your loved one? I would love to learn more from you!

Add your own reflection for mothers with ADHD to read⤵️

Many of us are mothers with ADHD & constantly beat ourselves up for what we do, what we don’t do, and feel an immense guilt.

Listen, we make quite a bit of mistakes at times, at least I do. However, I’m sure you’re doing your best, that you have strengths that you don’t recognize, and that your children have wonderful things to say about you.

Feel free to share any of your our own reflections below. I would love to read them! 💜💜💜

Happy Mother’s Day to you all🦋

Drop a 💜 if you had similar experiences so that others know they are alone👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

This is why it's so important for kids to understand that asking for clarification is okay 💯💯
Advocating for themselves and showing others that they aren't the only ones can be really helpful, whether or not they have ADHD.

Also, if it seems that your child or student is lazy, doesn't pay attention, doesn't care etc., it really may not be the case at all. It could be stemming from more than what it seems. Sometimes they may not even know how to convey their own thoughts.

✨Side note: the job of a teacher is incredibly difficult. I don't know how they do it. This isn't about saying anything bad about teachers. This is just about awareness for all of us!

Drop a 💯 if this is daily life for ADHD ⬇️⬇️⬇️

I know, I know. We all do this, right? Everyone does this 🤔

Correct. Everyone may do this. Here’s the difference between ADHD and not having ADHD though: 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

With ADHD, this is an all day, every day challenge. This isn’t just on occasion. We forget what we are saying mid-sentence, we forget why we walked into the room, we forget where our keys and phone are, we forget to switch the clothes to the dryer, we forget to buy the one thing we went to the store for.

Much of it has to do with our working memory, executive functioning, and sensory overload.

You’re definitely not alone if you experience this! 🙏🏻💜🙏🏻💜

Do you have a loved one with ADHD? Feel free to share something helpful ⬇️

I’m going to be honest, I can empathize why our loved ones without ADHD don’t understand why we don’t follow through on tasks, activities, school work, and so forth.

In my opinion, once we go into some of the neuroscience of ADHD, it can help others have more compassion, empathy, and understanding. This is part of the reason why I share so much about this topic 💜💜💜

Drop a 💜 for every ADHDer experiencing burnout & deserves some compassion ⬇️

Many of us are constantly telling ourselves that we aren’t doing enough. We feel that we don’t deserve to say that we are burned out. The fact is that we are trying our best. Sometimes we just need a break….and that’s okay 🙏🏻

Type 💯 if you have ADHD and seem to do well in high stress situations⬇️

It does seem odd, but there are many with ADHD that excel in a fast paced, stressful environment of some kind.

While it is not fully understood why, some of it could be due to more dopamine and adrenaline being released. Because the ADHD brain is constantly seeking novelty, some of these types of situations are helpful for staying focused.

It’s important to know that everyone is different. Some with ADHD struggle with anxiety in emergencies or high-stress situations 💜

What seems to help you for when you're overstimulated?👇🏻👇🏻

It's important to know that everyone is different. Some may find benefit in one of these suggestions while another feels that it makes the sensory overload worse💜💜

It's also important to know that experiencing sensory overload isn't exclusive to ADHD. Many that do not have ADHD are also prone to this.

Would you like to share what is helpful for you? I would love to know!

Drop a 💜 if drawing boundaries is important ⬇️

Whether or not you have ADHD, you may struggle with drawing boundaries. This could be due for various reasons, one being wanting to people please. There are so many reasons why this can occur though🙏🏻

This is something I’m still working on, but I am slowly doing better. It’s a challenge for sure, though!

You’re not alone, my friends.

Feel free to share other helpful examples 💜

Be sure to save or share this post with a friend if they have ADHD and/or hyperfocus often 💜

Here are some quick tips that have been helpful for me: 👇🏻

🔹Create a "distraction kit" can be a box filled with fidget toys, stress balls, or other tactile items that can help with nervous energy and reduce impulsivity.

🔹A visual timer, such as an hourglass or timer app with a visual display, can help increase awareness of time and prevent getting lost in hyperfocus.

🔹Engaging in physical activity such as walking or yoga can help individuals with ADHD release excess energy and improve focus.

🔹While it may sound counterintuitive, some individuals with ADHD find that sensory deprivation can help improve focus and reduce distractions.

🔹Creating a “mind dump" involves taking a few minutes each day to write down all the thoughts and ideas that come to mind, which can help free up mental space and reduce stress.

🔹It's important to remember that hyperfocus is a part of ADHD and not a personal flaw. Practicing self-compassion can help reduce feelings of guilt or shame.

🔹Try a "mindful transition" where you transition from one task to another, take a few deep breaths and bring awareness to the present moment. This can help reset the mind and prevent getting stuck in hyperfocus.

🔹Use "if/then" planning - Create a plan for how to transition out of hyperfocus mode by setting an "if/then" statement. For example, "If I've been working on this task for over an hour, then I'll take a 10-minute break."

🔹Changing the environment, such as working in a different room or going to a coffee shop, can help break the hyperfocus cycle and increase creativity.

🔹Incorporate mindfulness breaks - Take short breaks throughout the day to practice mindfulness exercises, such as deep breathing or body scans. This can help prevent burnout and increase focus.

🔹A hydration tracking app can help remind you to drink water throughout the day so that you stay hydrated.

🔹Keeping healthy snacks, such as fruits, nuts, and vegetables, nearby can help prevent hunger.

Type YES if you have ADHD and easily get burned out ⬇️

There are numerous reasons as to why so many with ADHD get burned out so easily. While there are many, these are the top common reasons 🙏🏻🙏🏻

For the meditation aspect, there are many that say they can’t meditate. There isn’t just one way to meditate. If you’re able to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air, and all while listening to some calming music, that can be your way of doing it! 🎶 ☀️ 🌱 🌲

As far as the ANT therapy, it can easily be googled. If you can’t find it, please let me know in the comments and I can send you a couple links 💜💜💜

What else would you like to share? ⬇️⬇️

Too often, I will hear about a loved one being unsupportive. It be anywhere from telling them they were diagnosed with ADHD, to saying that medication has helped them.

Do you tend to overanalyze as an ADHDer like I do? ⬇️

Believe it or not, many of us can make impulsive decisions while also overanalyzing at other times. It can be brutal….

Here are some quick tips on what can be helpful! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

1️⃣ Take a moment to acknowledge what you consider small!

2️⃣ Don't convince yourself that you will finally do it when you're ready, because you will likely never feel ready.

3️⃣ Starting easier tasks first can help give you a sense of accomplishment, gain momentum, and keep going.

4️⃣ Limit information and choices where you can. The more information that comes through, the more executive function and working memory you use.

5️⃣ Try to be mindful of how quickly and frequently you say yes to a task. Try saying, "I will check my calendar and get back with."

That way you can process and consciously decide if you want to take on the task.

Do you struggle with the combination of RSD and people pleasing? ⬇️

For many of you that have ADHD, you know exactly what this feels like. While there are other factors to consider when it comes to people pleasing, the fear of rejection is a major factor some.

It can be challenging to set boundaries, whether or not you have ADHD. But don’t let the fear of rejection stop you from setting them. It’s much easier said than done, I know. It’s a work in progress, but the first step is often being aware 💜💜💜
