BONUS Trivia: According to The Take, the episode's title is a variation on the Pirandello play "Six Characters in Search of an Author" and existentialist Sartre play "No Exit," both of which served as inspiration for the script.

Why you should watch it: "Coherence" is a masterclass in low-budget filmmaking, showcasing how a strong concept and improvisational storytelling can create a deeply engaging and suspenseful experience. Shot almost entirely in one location with a small cast, this psychological sci-fi horror film demonstrates the power of inventive directing, dynamic character interactions, and effective use of naturalistic lighting to build tension. For filmmakers, it’s an inspiring example of turning limitations into strengths to craft a compelling narrative.

Behind the scenes: A surprising behind-the-scenes fact about Coherence is that the cast was given no script—only brief character outlines and daily story beats. Much of the dialogue and interactions were improvised, allowing for genuine reactions and natural tension as the actors discovered the twists and turns of the story in real time, just like their characters.

If you're a fan of Wes Craven's work or just a horror movie buff, "Screams & Nightmares" (2022) is an absolute treat. Brian J. Robb does a great job diving into Craven's career, giving insight into everything from his early, gritty projects like "The Last House on the Left" to his groundbreaking franchises like "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream." The behind-the-scenes stories and interviews with Craven himself add so much depth—it feels like you're getting a personal look into his creative process. Definitely recommend for fans of the genre or anyone curious about the man who shaped modern horror.

Why you should watch it: WARNING! Climax is a French psychological horror that is both panic inducing intense and deeply unsettling to watch, so it is not for everyone! I'm talking Trainspotting & Susperia had a baby (visceral scenes of dark drug use consequences and chaotic/surreal imagery). With that said, the directing and cinematography in Climax is mesmerizing—Gaspar Noé’s use of long, uninterrupted takes and a constantly moving camera creates an immersive and almost suffocating experience. Combined with the pulsating electronic soundtrack, the film pulls you into its chaotic, hypnotic energy, mirroring the characters' descent into madness. It’s like a sensory overload you can’t look away from!

Behind the scenes: What’s fascinating about Climax is that most of the cast are street dancers (electro dancers, voguers, krumpers and waackers), with only two trained actors in the mix (Sofia Boutella and Souheila Yacoub). This brings an incredible authenticity to the dancing and choreography, which is both mesmerizing and meticulously crafted, serving as a visual metaphor for the film’s descent into chaos. Their raw, physical energy paired with Gaspar Noé’s direction blurs the line between dance and narrative, creating a uniquely visceral experience.
