The Sally at Ham Belgian Beer and Cheese Festival

We were treated to the perfect pub garden weather for our jaunt out to Ham in Gloucestershire for the Salutation Inn's Belgian Beer and Cheese festival. Ranging from the classics such as Westmalle Dubbel, to the more modern offering of Tara's Boulba. There was even a couple of home grown beers from the pubs own brewery - including a stand out favourite 'Grisette' at a very driver friend 3%! Zesty bitterness with a light honey in the body, the ultimate refreshing pint, perfect for a sunny day in a country pub garden.

We sadly didn't have time to stop for cheese, but from previous attendance at this event I can account for the excellent quality and range, provided by the legend that is Jerry The Cheese!

We are so glad the weather has finally brightened so our little one can really start to enjoy a pub garden - it's been a long and very wet winter.

We promised it would happen. Series 2 has landed - and its a double drop!

We have released a shorter 25 min episode just to catch you all up on our lives and give a little idea of what we plan to do with the podcast going forward. But we also come bursting back into the podcasting world with a full blown 1hr 45 minute episode (because when have we ever been able to keep it short)...

Towards to end 2023, we had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with James Rylance of . We cracked open a fresh Saison Dupont 750ml, and had a free flowing conversation about the beer industry in the UK, regenerative agriculture, and where family fits into it all.
.. think of it like sitting in your local and listening in to the conversation on the next table...

We are so grateful to James for taking the time to talk to us, we hope you all enjoy this double episode drop...there will be more!

Available now on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of sitting down with James from and recording an new episode of the podcast. James is such a considered and erudite person, especially when in full flow conversation about beer! Its going to be very difficult to edit this recording down, I don't want to remove anything!

After a morning of pastries and 750ml bottles, we took a stroll to visit our friends at for some German bottles. From there we finished our day at for the Ideal Day Tap Takover! Our absolute favourite was the "For Path of the Sun -Feild Beer".

A huge thank you to James for taking the time to sit down with us and giving us a brilliant excuse to finally breath life back into our dormant podcast.

Celebrating the start of our first Christmas as a family by visiting our local and drinking one of Floz's beers.

It may seem like nepotism, but it is no lie when I say that the ESB is a genuine pleasure to drink. Perfectly balanced with enough exciting elements to keep you coming back for more. Strawberry cheesecake and fresh baked brown bread, with a pleasant bitter finish. Get it while you can at . Now I just have to be careful not to drink to much...

We know we have been very quiet for a while now, but we have an excellent reason...we are having a baby! Due October 2022.
This obviously means that half of the podcasting due has been off the booze and somewhat distracted, but we wanted to let you know this will not be the end...just something of a hiatus...
..we do have an idea for other podcast projects which we will give updates on as soon as we've made them solid...

Keep on drinkin' on!

After a 4.5hr train journey down from Bristol, we are finally able to enjoy our weekend in Falmouth for the Beer Trail. First stop is the , and the first pint is Amber Lager.

Falmouth is really beautiful, we've already spent a lovely morning exploring the narrow streets and alleys, and even managed to find a new book for the collection. Expect a podcast about smugglers pubs in series 2!

Wild Beer Co - Delusions of Grandeur- 20% BA Stout

Yesterday we had an impromptu celebration after I received a very exciting job offer. We will tell you all about it a little closer to my start date, but for now I'll tell you about this delicious treat from

This was a beast of a beer. Aged in bourbon barrels and standing at a whopping 20%, this was very much a sipping sharer. Flavours of raisins soaked in sherry, with a sticky cinder toffee sweetness, it finishes with an intense warmth and a tapanade-like savory flavour. A very decadent drink, perfect for a special occasion (or a dangerous night cap!)

The Kernel - Foeder Beer Taiheke- 5%

Day 4 of isolation, bit hot and tired from using the exercise bike. definitely needed a sharp kick to refresh me, which is exactly what this beer from
gave me. (Purchased direct)

Aroma of Rose, lychee and apple with oak derived clove and vanilla. Flavours of spice, gooseberry and pink grapefruit. Spritzy carbonation and a sharp lemon-rind dry finish. This really gave me the pick me up I was looking for.

Can anyone tell what the record in the background is? I have no prizes just interested to see who might recognise it.

Augustiner - Heller Bock - 7.5%

Day 3 of isolation and the cabin fever is starting to set in, so I felt I deserved a little mid-week boost. This was bought from
who always have a fantastic range of German beers.

Aroma of honeysuckle and toasted white bread. Flavours of white pepper, honey and tinned Peaches. The mouthfeel is smooth, but with a nice bitterness and a rounding dryness - think Augustiner Helles' with more rich complexity.

Pressure Drop - "Rocks, Rivers, Trees" - West Coast IPA 6.8%

Day 2 of isolation, and its another opressively hot day, which really gave me a craving for a classic West Coast IPA, so it had to be this attractive looker from (bought from )

Aroma of pinapple, papaya and lemon zest, a delicious sticky mouthfeel with flavours of honey and pine with a bitter finish which cleans the palate.
I'm glad to see a few more breweries bringing back the IBUs , and this has been one of my favourites of the West Coast revival that I've tried so far.

Beak "Power" Vienna Lager 5.2%

Only gone and ended up in isolation for the next 6 days! But this gives me the chance to do plenty of research and dig into some excellent beers, starting with this one from bought at .

Light chamomile and grapefruit aroma, bitter orange and pine flavours and a nice caramel malt character. Definitely recognisable American characteristics.

Thrilled to be able to welcome the return of , one of Bristol's most historic pubs.

Allegedly a favourite drinking hole of Blackbeard, and the inspiration for the opening scene of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island", it was owned by Brewers Fayre until its closure in 2019. Now, thanks to the team behind and other fantastic venues across the country, a pub that could have been doomed to become flats has been saved, and is now serving a beautiful range of Czech and German Lagers, along with independent British beers on Cask and Keg.

Congratulations to all involved, you've done a fantastic job, and although I know the final touches haven't been added, you can already see the love and care that has been taken to preserve this traditional pub, while also attracting a new and loyal clientele.
