The Mighty Baralacha La is a high altitude pass in the Zanskar range that connects Leh district of Ladakh to Lahaul district of Himachal Pradesh. Situated on the Leh - Manali Highway, this 4850m high pass is not only mystical and beautiful, but also gives a feeling that you are not out of this world. The surrounding landscapes of Baralacha La are completely snow bound and add to its beauty and grandeur.

I passed this pass in early October when I was coming back from my Ladakh Solo Ride and can't tell you how mesmerizing the feeling was, even though it was evening and it was getting dark very fast and my hands were freezing from operating the camera. But I couldn't let this sight go without capturing it.

Situated at a height of 3690m, Tungnath Temple is the highest Shiva Temple in the world. It is also the highest of the Panch Kedar temples in Uttarakhand.

This is a throwback pic when I had visited the temple in December, 2021 when the whole mandir was covered in snow.

Depending on which side of the debate you are, you can either love it or hate it, but one thing is for certain, you can't ignore its impact!

Ladakh is also called as the land of high passes and it is easy to figure out why is that. In just a couple of days of entering in Ladakh, I have already crossed three of those high passes: Zoji La, Namik La and Fotu La.

In the coming days as I explore more and more of Ladakh, I will be crossing some of the highest passes in the world like the mighty Khardungla (which used to be the highest motorable pass till recently when it was dethroned by Umling La), Umling La (the highest motorable pass in the world now), Chang La, Taglang La and many more. All in all I think I will be crossing around 12 high altitude passes in one trip. 😱

You can only do that in Ladakh. All hail the king of high passes! 🔥

The landscapes of Ladakh are varied, mesmerizing, beautiful and totally out of this world. The unique geographical location Ladakh, being a cold desert lying in the rain shadow region of the Himalaya is the main reason behind this.

One of these fascinating landscapes is the Moonland near Lamayuru on the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH 1). If you are riding/driving from the Srinagar side, you can't miss it!
