Passports for this year's Phoenix Area Quilt Shop Association Shop Hop are now on sale, and we are so excited to be a part of this fun adventure again!

Visit us in-store to purchase your passport, get a map and start planning your route for this year's Shop Hop. Passports are $10 each, and you can purchase as many as you'd like for yourself and your friends! 🎫

From October 11-19, visit as many participating shops as you can and view a demo of each shop's favorite unique item of the season. Each demo gets you a stamp, so collect as many stamps as you can during the week and return your passport by October 19 to get entered to win from the pool of 30+ prizes!

We'd prefer to celebrate Halloween year-round, too! Can't wait for this super fun shop–unique to Modern Quilting–to open next month 🎃

We have some exciting news to share! In a few short weeks, we are opening our official Halloween Shop! 🎃

As many of you know, the Modern Quilting family are HUGE fans of Halloween, and would prefer to celebrate it year-round if it was more socially acceptable. We get to make the rules, however, so we make sure we are stocked with fun, spooky and even vintage-style Halloween prints, kits and patterns every day!

Our consistent presence of fall festiveness has become a notable niche for the store, and many customers have expressed how much they enjoy being able to shop seasonal products whenever they want. As we become more known for this niche, we were encouraged to highlight it with a special section of the store, both in-person and online, that features all of our Halloween goodies for you, available all the time.

It’s time for our last (or is it?). This week we are highlighting our latest project, branding Desert Sounds Magazine 📰

Desert Sounds is a digital haven for live event coverage co-founded by local photographers. Their mission is to spotlight the energy, creativity, and diversity of local live events.

Since the magazine’s focus is heavy on uplifting local creators, change-makers and businesses, we went with a very southwestern vibe to mix with the brightness of the music and art scenes. This helped us build a color palette that reflects the reds, pinks and purples of flashing lights and wild stage setups with the neutral tans, yellows and browns of the Arizona desert 🏜️

Desert Sounds takes bold approaches, collaborates with bold individuals and tells bold stories, so it was important that their bold vibe shines through in everything they publish. We chose a bold, worn font for the header, allowing it to stand out with color shining through, complemented by a solid bold subheading to balance the grunge look. Since this is a publication, we chose a simple font that is blocky enough to complement the boldness but plain enough to read easily.

We had a ton of fun with the logo, bringing together the vertical, rounded style of a zine with the look of a digital media player and vinyl record to blend all of the magazine’s elements of storytelling, digital media and different forms of art together.

With the watermark design, we took a very “collab” style approach that is popular with many brands right now. The “brand” X “other brand” style is easy to replicate and very familiar upon first glance, but to make it more in line Desert Sounds’ branding, we made it a rough stamp and rough X style, using bright colors to help it stand out on dark photos.

It’s time for another , and this week we’re highlighting Fifth Star Destinations! In addition to running their own properties, this Arizona-based vacation rental comapny helps other Airbnb owners brand their properties into memorable experiences that are sure to get them to a five-star status! ⭐️

Standing out is Fifth Star’s speciality, so it was important that their brand stood out, too! We combined bright, vibrant colors like hot pink, teal, yellow and coral with deeper, more neutral colors like maroon, pine, orange and brown to highlight the earthy and authentic vibes they bring to their properties. Fifth Star is also very community-driven, which made highlighting the warm desert vibes extra important.

Fifth Star is fun, but they’re also professional, and that is evident in their typography. With a script-style header, they highlight their more quirky and artistic side, while highlighting their professional and collaborative side with the more blocky and corporate-style subheading and body.

Their logo also highlights their quirky and unique style that nicely blends with their professionalism. The retro-style script font is bold and different, but easy to read, while the simplicity of the dual colors, text-style logo and small star accent is classy and relevant to their niche.

This week’s is for an Etsy store called Punkadelic Creations! ✨

Punkadelic Creations brings together the grungy, underground vibe of the punk and rock scenes with the feel-good, groovy and psychedelic vibes of the retro scene. With this blend comes stand-out art, stickers, apparel, home decor and more.

Bringing together a dark vibe and a bright look was challenging, but we think we nailed it! The spectrum of the color palette highlights some of the brighter well-known grunge colors like maroon, violet and pine with a muted version of more lively colors like coral, yellow and teal. The header is rough and bold, but it’s perfectly balanced by the softer, retro-style subheading.

Since this branding is bringing together two very different styles, it was important to find anchors for people to land so it doesn’t feel off-putting. We found this balance with the plain body font and the heavy usage of color groups of yellow, maroon and peach. The brightness in the logo reflects the brand’s confidence and stands out as a memorable image. 😜

🎨✨ We’re kicking off Moodboard Monday today! ✨🎨

In the last year, we’ve started to dive into more branding projects, and have loved every minute of it! We’ve worked on re-branding existing businesses, creating an entire look and voice for new brands and explored the world of typography and color theory for HOURS.

One of our favorite things to do when working on a branding project is creating moodboards for our clients. This is an engaging way to understand the client’s goals with their visual brand, see the themes their work naturally creates, and expand on new ideas all in one place so the client can understand how everything comes together. Since we (and our clients) are so in love with our moodboards, we decided to start sharing them with our audiences to showcase our work, and maybe even get you thinking about some branding help 😉

This week, we’re spotlighting the dynamic work of 5threel, a talented photographer and videographer specializing in concerts and live events, portraits, food and automobiles 📸

5thReel brings an unapologetically creative and innovative approach to every shoot to capture the best moments, from high-energy performances stopped in time to candid snippets full of emotion. Their collaborative and down-to-earth style makes every client feel like they are getting fun, authentic and unique content at every shoot.

Our moodboard highlights the visually striking and avant-garde work of 5threel. The bright, vibrant lights of live events come together to create a color palette that stands out as much as 5threel’s personality. The confidence of their expertise and interest in always learning and trying something new shine through the bold typography. And, of course, the striking graphic elements, like the graphic logo, highlight 5threel’s artistic and creative approach to all their projects.

We are obsessed with how 5threel’s branding came out, and love how much they love it, too!
