Today, Damay at Dangal, a citizen-initiated online memorial for the fallen during the covid-19 pandemic, honors the memory of many who passed away, including a former President, a press freedom fighter, and countless fellow Filipinos.
We remember and honor our loved ones across faiths, and to offer a space for collective grief, reflection, and action.
Hosted by actress Angel Aquino, the memorial includes prayers and messages by civic and religious leaders, performances, ritual offerings, and a memorial reading of names of loved ones who we lost.
We are honored to have Vice-President Leni Robredo, who offers the opening prayer in Bicolano, and church leaders Sr. Eleanor Llanes, ICM, Br. Armin Luistro, FSC, Pastor Caloy Diño, and Rev. Renante Halog of the United Methodist Church. They will be joined by social activist Dr. Carol Araullo and journalist Inday Espina-Varona.
The memorial’s highlight, the monthly reading of names of the our beloved departed, will be led by artists Agot Isidro, Enchong Dee, Gina Alajar, and Carlos Siguion-Reyna.
Special performances dedicated to the memory of the deceased, will be offered by singer-songwriter Bayang Barrios (“Sinisintang Bayan” by Gary Granada),

June 9, 2021
We remember and honor the fallen during the pandemic: loved ones we have lost to Covid-19, illness, or other causes during this most difficult time.
This is a space for collective grief, reflection, and action. Hosted by actress Iza Calzado, this month’s interfaith memorial features prayers by civic and religious leaders, including Dean Tony La Viña, Auxiliary Bishop of Manila Broderick Pabillo, Rev. Nonie Aviso, Franciscan sister Sr. Susan Esmile and Jenn Ferariza-Mendoza. Rituals will be led by One Faith One Nation, One Voice, Rise Up for Life and for Rights, the United Methodist Church, and the Philippine Independent Church.
Featured this month are educator Dr. Judy Taguiwalo and grief counselor Cathy Sanchez Babao, who will speak on grief literacy.
More than a hundred names will be read out by artists, including Bibeth Orteza, Bonifacio Ilagan, Sari Dalena, Joel Lamangan, Lualhati Bautista, and Chris Millado. Special performances will be offered by singer and theater actor Arman Ferrer, performing artist Bo Cerrudo, and singer-songwriter Bayang Barrios.
