As the sun dips below the horizon, Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi comes alive with the enchanting Ganga Aarti. The rhythmic chants of sacred mantras fill the air. Priests clad in vibrant attire perform intricate rituals, offering prayers to the river goddess with deep reverence. Against the backdrop of ancient temples and the soft glow of twilight, this spiritual ceremony invokes a profound sense of peace and devotion. #varanasi #ganga #instagram #upindia #up #india #banaras #kashi #travel #varanasidiaries #indianphotography #travelindia #travelrealindia #traveladdicted #usonwheels #uttarpradesh #uttarpradeshtourism #livingmybestlife #travelphotography #travelblogger #temple #gangaaarti

Gwalior is a place where myth and history come together in an ancient inscription. Different rulers have added to the diverse architectural heritage of this city which makes it impossible to skip visiting the city when in MP.

A trip to Jaipur is incomplete without seeing the magnificent City Palace. The Palace is home to the Royal family of Jaipur who still reside here. Most of the palace is now a museum and with a normal ticket you can view the Textile museum (which shows the attires of the old kings and queens), the armory (has an impressive showcase of old swords, pistols, knives etc. used in the pre cyber warfare days), the throne room, the hall for public audiences and finally a the photography exhibition which is nostalgic as you can see the views of Jaipur pre-independence.
The Royal Grandeur Tour costs about 3k and gets you a guided tour of the palace and the Chandra Mahal (‘Moon Palace’), which was the residence of the erstwhile Maharaja. In here you can visit The Sukh Niwas, or ‘Hall of Rest’, which is the royal dining room; the Rang Mandir is adorned with mirror work across the walls and ceiling, Shobha Niwas is known as the ‘Hall of Beauty’, with walls that are lavishly embellished with mirrors, tiles and gold leaf detailing, the Chhavi Niwas, or ‘Hall of Images’, is on the fifth floor and used to be the monsoon retreat of the Maharaja. At the very tip of the Chandra Mahal is the flag of the Jaipur royal family, which is only unfurled when the Maharaja is in residence.
Irrespective of which tour you take, do hang out at Baradari - the restaurant inside the city palace. It has great ambience and food and the staff is very warm & provide excellent service.

With so many communities evolving over 1000s of years, it’s no wonder that India is a treasure house of cultures. You could spend a lifetime and yet not experience all the various festivals, cultures and customs of the many communities living in India.
The Gawaria community is a sub-group within the larger Banjara community and is mostly based in Rajasthan. According to their traditions, the community descends from three brothers - Tapasvi Singh, Lakhi Singh, and Bhumi Singh. These brothers lost their land and took to peddling goods and services. Since then, the community has been involved in trading and business
They have a unique dialect and also festivals. We chanced upon one of their festivals which is dedicated to God Shiva celebrated in the Galtaji Temple. Members of this community travel from all over Rajasthan and bathe in the holy kunds (to know more about the Kunds, check our post on Galtaji Temple) and also take back cow dung mixed with the holy waters of the Kund in small earthenware pots to their villages where they bathe the Shiva lingas with the dung water mixture for prosperity and peace.
The journey to and fro from the village is euphoric for the villagers as they sing and dance their way. We tried to find someone who could help us understand the origins of the festival, but were unable to. Nevertheless, it was fun to dance and sing with them and we hope to find out more in our next trip to Rajasthan

Serene #Beaches and #islandlife life is what comes to mind when someone says they went to Thailand.
So we decided to break this cliche and explore everything else that Thailand has to offer. And we are so happy that we went to #norththailand
It's just pretty and a perfect mix of modern and old world. Where they have historic city of Ayutthya on one side and newly built Wat Rong Khun, White Temple depicting new concepts on other.
Here is our best of Thailand list.

When it comes to discovering hidden beaches, let's just say it's a passion of ours. And Walvati beach in Konkan is as hidden as they come. 😀
The ONLY way to get to this beach is to convince the lone boat man at the Aravi Beach to take you there. If he is in the mood (which he generally is 😎), he will take you to this hidden gem and also get you back. So no worries there. You don't need to brave the sea waters and swim your way back.
The beach is a white sand virgin beach and is at the confluence of the sea and the creek. The water is a beautiful blend of colours.
A pro tip from us - Carry a blanket or beach rug, tons of beer and food. And you can spend the day here away from the cares of the world. Just make sure you come back and the peace and beauty is addictive.

As we live in Maharashtra, whenever we planned any trips, we always ended up traveling to new states. But this summer we decided to bring it home and explore Konkan.
We had known Konkan to be more a weekend getaway and mostly famous for sea food but it’s so much more than that. We met chatty and gracious people, explored some very serene and beautiful beaches, learnt about the history through the mighty forts like Sindhudurg, Vijaydurg etc. We also learnt about the natural flora and fauna when we visited Phansad wildlife sanctuary and, how can we forget about meeting the dolphins and olive Ridly turtles 😊
Traveling through Konkan has been one of the best trips. So bringing you some of the best experiences Konkan has to offer!!

We are in the middle of the monsoon season. If you love travelling as much as we do, we are sure you are planning for late monsoon travel. It’s probably the best season to travel as everything looks freshly washed after the rains. The hills are lush green and the seas bluer than blue. Konkan blooms in the late rainy season.
We have been travelling through Konkan in the last few months and have discovered so many new places. Here are our top picks from unseen Konkan.

Maharashtra has a rich legacy of Maritime history. Chhatrapati (Emperor) Shivaji understood the tactical importance of controlling the coast of Maharashtra and built a string of sea and coastal forts. The island forts off the Konkan coast - Suvarnadurg, Vijaydurg, and Sindhudurg were strategically constructed to thwart the rising influence of the British and other foreign powers. They stood as majestic sentinels - a true testament to the vision, technological know how and the architectural genius of the Maratha empire

Part 2 - Hidden Gems of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh
Around 40 kms from Gwalior, stands a lone temple on top a hillock in the village of Mitaoli. It is one of the surviving temples dedicated to the mysterious and esoteric cult called Chausath Yoginis who were once famous for tantrism in the 9th and 10th century India. Connected to Goddess Parvati and worshipers of God Shiva, their temple architecture is distinct from other Hindu Temples. It is a hypaethral structure that is open to the sky. There is a belief that this is because the yoginis had been given the power to fly.
This temple is also known as Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple, was built by Kachchhapaghata King Devapala. It is said that the temple was used to provide education in astrology and mathematics based on the transit of the Sun.
The temple is also an engineering marvel. It has survived and stayed intact through multiple earthquakes. It also has a secret and humongous underground facility for rain water storage.
However, the most distinctive feature of the temple is its resemblance to the Parliament House of India. There is no evidence that the temple was the inspiration behind the design of the Parliament, but the resemblance is hard to miss.

Part 1 - Hidden Gems of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh
The Gurjara-Pratiharas dynasty ruled many parts of Northern India from the mid-8th to the 11th century. It is famous for its architectural and artistic achievements, most famous being the Khajuraho Temples in Madhya Pradesh. However, many people don’t know about another masterpiece created by them - the Bateshwar Group of temples.
Located about an hour from Gwalior city, this archeological site is a must visit. Not only will you be mesmerised by the beautiful temples with exquisite carvings, but you can also see peacocks in abundance.
Bateshwar is a group of 200 temples. The temple architecture is from 2 different periods and the construction of these temples is a mystery that nobody can solve unless they go back in time. Why would the kings build 200 similar temples dedicated to God Shiva at the same site?

📍Nuranang Waterfall
Also called Jang waterfall as it’s located a few kilometres from the town of Jang. The original name of this waterfall is Phong-Phongma waterfall, this place offers gorgeous views and a welcome break from the drive between Sela Pass and Tawang.
Bring along a picnic basket and enjoy your lunch on the banks of the Tawang River. The place is so peaceful and beautiful that you will not want to leave.

📍 Tawang Monastery
Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh is famous for the Tawang Monastery, one of the most significant monasteries in Buddhism. The monastery is home to more than 500 monks, this is Asia’s second biggest and oldest monastery.
Coming here is like walking into a new world. Besides the peaceful feeling and quiet that is normal in any monastery, everyone here holds an aura of contentment and there is smile on every face. As soon as you enter the premises, it’s magical feeling. Somehow you forget every care, stress and sad thought behind.
A must visit at least once in your lifetime.

📍Chagzam Bridge, Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh
Literally translated this means Iron Bridge, Chagzam bridge is the oldest bridge in Arunachal Pradesh located over river Tasonmg Chu. This 600 year old bridge is not only a remarkable piece of architecture but also gives you the most beautiful views.
We sat here for hours just enjoying the quiet and the beauty of nature. Our friend, Tsering Chombay, told us that the bridge was named in honour of the first Dalai Lama who was popularly known as Lama Chang Azam Wangpo as he was not only a Philosopher but also an architect and was responsible for building more than 100 bridges across the Himalayan region.

In Arunachal Pradesh, Losar Festival is celebrated to mark the start of spring. It is one of the biggest festivals for the Monpa Tribe who are said to be inhabitants of Arunachal Pradesh since 500 BC.
We planned our trip to Tawang to coincide with the Losar Festival and it was one of our most joyous experiences. We reached Tawang a day before the start of the festival and found most people busy cleaning and decorating their houses in preparation for the first day of the festival. Typically, eight auspicious symbols called Tashi Dargye - the precious umbrella, a victory banner, 2 golden fish, a right coiled white conch shell, a lotus flower, a vase of treasure, the Dharma Wheel and the Eternal Knot are used to decorate houses.
On Day 1, everyone wears the traditional clothes and visits the Tawang Monastery to offer prayers and take the blessings of the high Lamas. The monastery is a sea of Red as that is the colour of the traditional dress and filled with laughter as people greet & wish each other. This is followed by 3 days of revelry - drinking the local rice wine, visiting family and friends, and taking part in local archery contests.
Unfortunately, we could not see the traditional mask dance, Aji Lhamu. It is mostly performed in the remote villages and not within the town.
