"Live life like we ski. There's no blue square cruising through life, you've got to get right fu***ng up on top it and go until you can't!"
- one of many words of wisdom from Gary during our chats last year.
You did it. You're a legend and friend Qʼuqʼumatz
Also fitting for the first time I met him. In the Red Mtn Parking lot at 5:45am on a big powder day dropping off my ex to do the snow- report. He was epic in the headlight glow complete with his early 80's McDonalds Canadian National Team downhill suit "You know the lifts don't open until 9:00 right?" "Oh I'll be done skiing by then! (big laughs)."
A year ago I went down to Gary's trailer to see if he wanted to chat for a new podcast series. I got home 16 hours later after an epic journey through history, space, time and beyond with a few bottles of wine on the back side of Red mountain. We had done the same thing about 14 years earlier and it was no less fascinating with new learning, understandings and a friend. Those 16 hours of audio recordings are epic... too epic for most perhaps. So we got together a week later for a 2hr sit down chat that became this episode of Roots in The Koots. The edited episode is a good surface level dip into the extraordinary life of Gary.
