Abu Dhabi remains the safest city in the world for 2024, according to a new study.

The UAE capital, with an overall score of 86.8, has once again landed the top spot in the latest global safety ranking of more than 300 cities by Numbeo.

Taipei came in second place, followed by Doha, Ajman, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Muscat, The Hague, Bern and Munich in the top 10, the data website said.

Numbeo’s Safety Index ranks 331 cities worldwide.

The index is based on the survey responses of website visitors, who were asked about perceptions of safety and crime levels in their city.

Abu Dhabi has held Numbeo’s title of the world’s safest city since 2017, reflecting the emirate’s ongoing efforts to ensure a good quality of life for residents, according to a statement from Abu Dhabi Media Office.

Abu Dhabi’s ranking reflects “the emirate’s global leadership in implementing best security standards,” the statement said.

“Abu Dhabi’s ranking as the world’s safest city has been possible, thanks to the limitless support of the wise leadership giving utmost importance to maintaining security in the emirate,” said Major General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director General, Abu Dhabi Police.

Fifteen-time Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys is the latest act to be announced in the star-studded lineup of Saadiyat Nights, the three-month open-air musical event series in Abu Dhabi, UAE. On February 17, the singer, songwriter, producer, and New York Times best-selling author will take the stage on Saadiyat Island for an enthralling performance of her most-loved tracks including ‘Girl on Fire’, ‘Fallin’, and ‘No One’.

Keys is no stranger to the Middle East, especially the UAE and Saudi Arabia, having frequented the countries for a number of shows. She gave memorable performances at the Dubai Jazz Festival in 2018, the Tony Robbins Achieve The Unimaginable event in Dubai in 2019, and at Expo Dubai’s Wasl Dome in 2021, alongside unveiling her album Keys in the emirate. Keys has also been welcomed to AlUla, Saudi Arabia on a couple of special occasions, including the Women on Women event which featured a dialogue between Alicia Keys and HRH Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Said, and twice to perform at Maraya, the world’s largest mirrored building.

John Legend to perform in Abu Dhabi in March

US musician John Legend and Welsh singing icon Tom Jones will perform in Abu Dhabi in March to mark the end of the three-month open-air concert series Saadiyat Nights.
Jones will kick off the finale weekend on March 1 while Grammy-winning singer Legend will hit the stage on March 2.
Previous stars who performed on the Saadiyat Nights calendar include US singer Mariah Carey, while the rest of the event’s schedule includes iconic Iranian performer Googoosh on Jan. 20, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli on Jan. 27, British performer Sting on Feb. 3 and Lebanese icon Magida El-Roumi on Feb. 10.

Legend is an American singer, songwriter, pianist, record producer, and actor who has earned EGOT status after winning Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.

Meanwhile, Jones’s career began with a string of top 10 hits in the 1960s and he has since toured the international circuit regularly.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced the new dates for the sixth edition of its leading global forum, Culture Summit Abu Dhabi. The thought leadership gathering will return to Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi from 3 to 5 March 2024.

Held under the theme A Matter of Time, this edition will gather a collection of thought leaders from the various fields such as art, heritage, media, music, museums, public policy, and technology. They will investigate how the role that culture – which so often holds together past, present, future – could play in helping us navigate this moment of inflection in the way we relate to the notion of time. Now, residents and visitors can get access to free Wi-Fi across Abu Dhabi.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has launched free Wi-Fi coverage across the emirate, including buses, beaches, and public parks, it was announced on Friday.

Provided by DMT in collaboration with UAE service providers, the initiative covers public parks (19 in Abu Dhabi, 11 in Al Ain and 14 in Al Dhafra Region) and will soon be available at Abu Dhabi Corniche beach and Al Bateen beach.

Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, chairman of DMT, said: "We are proud to offer this service, ensuring connectivity for everyone across all locations. Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli to perform in Abu Dhabi this January

A duo of huge musical superstars are headed to Saadiyat Island this January, with Grammy Award winning Mariah Carey and iconic Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli both set to perform in the capital.

Kicking off the first ever Saadiyat Nights, a three-month music festival that will bring a slew of musical superstars to the island, will be musical legend Mariah Carey on January 6.

The songbird supreme will belt out a string of her best loved hits from the decades, including Hero, One Sweet Day, and Always Be My Baby. Her performance, as all Saadiyat Nights performances will, will take place at a purpose-built open-air venue on Saadiyat Island, backdropped by the island’s beautiful vistas and cultural institutions.
Saadiyat Nights will also feature a performance from one of Iran’s most popular musical stars, GooGoosh, who will take to the Saadiyat stage on January 20. Billed as her last tour, it’s a final opportunity for fans to hear GooGoosh perform some of her biggest tracks from the last six decades.

Then on January 27, it’s the turn of world renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, who returns to the capital for the first time since 2022. Fans can expect to hear a selection of the celebrated classical artist’s most iconic songs, including Time To Say Goodbye and Vivo Por Lei.
