Fathers are not born, but made. A man does not become a father simply by bringing a child into the world, but by taking up the responsibility to care for that child. Whenever a man accepts responsibility for the life of another, in some way he becomes a father to that person.

Being a father entails introducing children to life and reality. Not holding them back, being overprotective or possessive, but rather making them capable of deciding for themselves, enjoying freedom and exploring new possibilities. Perhaps for this reason, Joseph is traditionally called a “most chaste” father. That title is not simply a sign of affection, but the summation of an attitude that is the opposite of possessiveness. Chastity is freedom from possessiveness in every sphere of one’s life. Only when love is chaste, is it truly love. A possessive love ultimately becomes dangerous: it imprisons, constricts and makes for misery. God himself loved humanity with a chaste love; he left us free even to go astray and set ourselves against him. The logic of love is always the logic of freedom, and Joseph knew how to love with extraordinary freedom. He never made himself the centre of things. He did not think of himself, but focused instead on the lives of Mary and Jesus.

‭‭𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗧: 𝗔 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗼𝗱

Every year, we, the faithful, are given this time of reflection and repentance during the season of Lent. During this season, we indulge in a pilgrimage with Christ in so many places, places that gradually make us know him well. Our Lord Jesus Christ makes us his pilgrims and sets us on a journey for us to reflect upon his great love and make us closer to him again and again.

Our Lord took us to the wilderness on the First Sunday of Lent, where we are urged to hold fast to our faith in the face of temptation and realise that we are not on this journey alone.

Then, at Mount Tabor, our Lord, James, Peter, and John showed us a glimpse of glory and urged us to be transfigured—that is, to leave behind our old, disagreeable ways and adopt new, heavenly ones.

At the Temple, He served as a reminder that everything we cling to that is against God's will would be removed from us and that He is capable of restoring us from being broken and destroyed.

We are then driven to consider the enormous love of God for us, His people, when our journey sets to a hidden conversation between our Lord and Nicodemus.

And then the Lord taught us that to die is to grow, and he assured us that as long as our hearts are with him, we will never be alone in this journey.

The season of Lent is a great opportunity to spend time with the Lord. Hopefully we will profoundly spend time with him through deep introspection of the messages He wants us to ponder in every place we've been with him.

Our pilgrimage with the Lord hasn't ended yet; there are so many places and wonderful messages he wants us to reflect on in the coming days. Let us carry the takeaways we had as we continue to walk with the Lord on this journey of faith.

The Queenship of Mary, a cornerstone of Catholic devotion, is a profound concept that encapsulates her unique role in the divine plan. It's not merely a title bestowed upon her, but a reflection of her unparalleled position as the Mother of God. It is not about earthly power or dominance. It's about her spiritual authority, derived from her unique relationship with God. It's a recognition of her role as the Queen of Heaven and Earth, interceding for humanity and guiding us towards salvation.

𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙪𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙮:
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Pray for us O Holy Mother of God,
That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, pray for us!

In the light of the Assumption of Mary, it is easy to pray her Magnificat (Luke 1:46–55) with new meaning. In her glory she proclaims the greatness of the Lord and finds joy in God her savior. God has done marvels to her and she leads others to recognize God’s holiness. She is the lowly handmaid who deeply reverenced her God and has been raised to the heights. From her position of strength she will help the lowly and the poor find justice on earth, and she will challenge the rich and powerful to distrust wealth and power as a source of happiness.

In the vastness of life's trials, the Immaculate Heart of Mary offers a solace as deep as her love. It's a love untainted by sin, a love that overflows with compassion for our struggles. We can imagine this pure heart, a radiant image perhaps, cradling our worries and fears. Just as a mother comforts her child, Mary's immaculate heart soothes our anxieties and reminds us of God's enduring presence.

Peter and Paul, two pillars of faith, stand out for their contrasting strengths. Peter, the rock, impulsive yet unwavering in his love for Christ. Paul, the scholar turned missionary, a powerhouse of intellect and zeal. Their journeys, though different, converged in laying the groundwork for the Church. We see in them the beauty of faith's multifaceted nature - love, leadership, and the transformative power of redemption. Their ultimate sacrifice reminds us of the enduring strength found in unwavering belief.

Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, intercede for us!

A Reflection by Sem. Richmon C. Jundis from Saint Paul's Seminary

Saints Peter and Paul, though vastly different personalities, offer a powerful testament to the enduring courage and perseverance it takes to serve the Lord. Peter's denial and Paul's past persecution could have easily paralyzed them with fear. However, their faith offered them the strength to acknowledge their fears and act in spite of them. This vulnerability, this willingness to embrace their imperfections, is a powerful testament to the transformative power of God's grace.

"As a seminarian, I encounter many hardships and trials regarding doing and not doing. It is crucial for me to know when to speak and to know when not to speak. There were many moments when I felt the urge to speak up against injustices, inequalities, and all forms of abuse, but I was also reprimanded oftentimes due to some rules and regulations to follow. Although it is courageous to speak up in times of trials for Christ's sake, it is also brave enough to remain silent when needed for Christ's sake. Jesus was vocal in many issues during His time, but He was also quiet in times of His suffering because He knew that it was the best thing to do. May we learn not only from Sts. Peter and Paul learn the essence of bravery but also learn from Jesus' bravery to remain silent."

𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙪𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙮:

Almighty God, Saints Peter and Paul inspire us with their unwavering perseverance in serving You. Peter, despite his stumbles, found the strength to rise again. Paul, once an opponent, became a tireless champion for Your message.

Grant us, like them, the courage to face our fears and doubts. Fill us with the perseverance needed to overcome challenges and remain steadfast in our faith.Through the intercession of Saints Peter and Paul, strengthen my resolve and guide my steps. Amen.

Saints Peter and Paul, pray for us!

Our past can be a heavy weight. Mistakes, regrets, and pain can leave us feeling lost and unsure of where to turn. Yet, within each of us lies a spark, the will of God, a guiding light leading us towards a life of purpose and peace.

As we align our actions with God's will, a remarkable transformation begins. This transformation isn't simply about becoming "good" people; it's about becoming who God created us to be – reflections of His love in the world.

Peter, once a man of doubt and fear, became a courageous leader after Pentecost. Paul, a relentless persecutor, was transformed into a passionate advocate for Christ. Their journeys remind us that no matter how far we've strayed, God's love can redeem us and equip us for great things.

The journey of aligning with God's will is a lifelong process. There will be bumps in the road, moments of doubt, and times when the way forward seems unclear. But with faith as our guide, and a commitment to living according to God's will, we can emerge from the darkness and experience the transformative presence of God, leading us to a life of purpose and everlasting joy.

𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙪𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙮:
Father, we come before you today humbled by our past and yearning for your guidance. Like Saints Peter and Paul, whose lives were dramatically transformed by your grace, we too seek a path that aligns with your will.

Grant us, like Peter, the courage to overcome our doubts and fears. Open our hearts to hear your voice, even when it calls us to unfamiliar territory. Let us be instruments of your love, reaching out with open arms to those in need. Empower us, like Paul, with a burning passion to serve you. Fill us with the zeal to share your message of hope and redemption with the world.

We surrender our will to yours, and pray for the faith to follow your path with unwavering devotion. Amen.

Saints Peter and Paul, pray for us!
