Why Lapel Size Matters: The Key to a Timeless Suit

When buying a suit, most people focus on the fit—and rightfully so. A well-tailored suit enhances your silhouette, ensuring you look sharp and put-together. However, one detail that often gets overlooked is the lapel size, and it can make or break your entire look.

Skinny lapels may have had their moment, but they rarely stand the test of time. A narrow lapel can make your suit look trendy rather than classic, and worse, it can throw off the proportions of your frame. If the lapels are too slim, they can make your shoulders appear narrower and your chest less defined, especially if you have a larger build.

Instead, opt for lapels with a balanced width—generally around 3 to 3.5 inches for a notch lapel. This proportion works well for most body types and exudes a timeless, masculine elegance. If you’re wearing a double-breasted suit or prefer a bolder statement, a peak lapel in the 3.5 to 4-inch range adds gravitas and authority.

At the incredible lounge at La Guardia airport in New York City waiting for my flight enjoying some drinks and food.

Traveling between different temperature zones can be a bit challenging. Traveling from New York to Florida today, I decided to change my Chelsea boots for loafers and my warm sweaters for a thinner cashmere sweater that I can easily put over my shoulders once arrived at the destination.
It’s a comfortable/ functional yet stylish look - also thanks to the added scarf. . I decided to add the baseball hat cause my hair are becoming too look and is a bit out of shape. Haha. Need a haircut to clean it up a bit.

It is definitely a bold, unconventional choice.
Few have mastered this look like Gianni Agnelli, King Charles III, and Sean Connery, each bringing a unique flair.

How to Pull Off the Tucked Tie
This look works best with tailored, high-waisted trousers for balance. Tucking your tie can add a touch of personality—channeling the bold styles of Agnelli, King Charles, or Connery—while keeping things classic and refined.

I’m personally not a fan and find it mostly odd.
In my view it looks when a tie is tied the correct length - hiding the trousers waist band or slightly covering it - and is kept outside the trousers.
