I believe in what Chavez stood for as an activist and civil rights leader. He fought for the rights of people doing some of the most difficult work for some of the lowest wages so they could unionize and advocate for themselves to earn a dignified wage. In my art piece, I included articles that reflected the struggles of people who are on the lowest rung of the economic ladder. Chavez fought to increase the minimum wage for these people, and that battle continues today.

Guillermo is paid $2.15 for every box of strawberries he picks at this CA field. An electronic badge helps track his production and pay. Unfortunately despite this technology wage theft is still prevalent on farms.

"Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore." -

"Una vez que el cambio social comienza, no se puede revertir. No puedes dejar de educar a la persona que ha aprendido a leer. No puedes humillar a la persona que siente orgullo. No se puede oprimir a la gente que ya no tiene miedo. "

CHICAGO (February 7, 2022) , the renowned non-profit hub for contemporary art located on Chicago’s vibrant South Side, proudly marks the tenth anniversary of its Jackman Goldwasser Residency program, offering comprehensive residencies of varying lengths to 12 local, national and international artists and curators whose creative practices address a wide range of social issues. The visiting residency program returns in 2022, after a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to welcome three artists from Nigeria, Ghana, and Latvia, and one from Minneapolis, in addition to eight artists from the Chicago area.

For a decade, the Residency program—with a particular focus on ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Native American) artists—has provided valuable studio spaces, art classes, and supportive resources, while connecting the residents to the city’s artists, curators, art institutions, and cultural communities. Each year, the Residency provides a platform for these international, national, and local artists and curators to take creative risks within their practice and expand professional networks in the context of a historic, community-rooted art space in the heart of Chicago.

“While we were able to deepen direct support for Chicago artists last year, this year we are particularly excited to welcome visiting artists and curators back to the Art Center, to learn and connect inside our space. Visiting residents are an essential part of the program, and in 2022 we are eager to plant seeds for long-term engagement between practices located both here and there." says Megha Ralapati, Residency Program Director. The 12 artists are: Regina Agu, Joseph Lefthand, Robert EArl Paige, Edra Soto, Ariella Granados, Jennefer Hoffmann, Noelle Garcia, Bun Stout, Melissa Clark, Oyindamola Fakeye, Kelvin Haizel.

I was so sad to hear the news of the passing of - a young up and coming actor from Chicago. I had the pleasure of interviewing him for his role in "Compadres," where he starred alongside . He was so young. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

“Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse” was Morgan’s film debut, in 2015. He went on to appear in movies including “Compadres,” “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser,” and “Flower,” for which he was named one of nine breakout talents at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival by Indie Wire. Morgan starred in the 2019 web TV series “Critters: A New Binge” as well as making TV appearances on “Chicago Med” and “Angie Tribeca.” His most recent credit was in the 2020 movie “Max Reload and the Nether Blasters.”
