The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the emergency use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 50,000 doses will arrive in Thailand in February.

FDA secretary-general Paisarn Dunkum said the FDA approved the registration of the vaccine after the firm had submitted nearly 10,000 pages of its documents for vaccine registration for emergency use on Dec 22 last year.

He said the FDA had examined the documents by taking into consideration the efficacy and safety of the COVID-19 vaccine.

What COVID-19 scams should people be aware of?
Because of COVID-19, unemployment rates are high and many people’s cash flows are low. Scammers view these as ripe conditions to strike. They’ll stop at nothing — not even a pandemic — to trick you into sharing your personal or financial information. That includes pretending to be a government official from the Federal Trade Commission to gain your trust.

We just heard about an email going around from someone claiming to be from the FTC. This scam email says you’ll get money from a COVID-19 “Global Empowerment Fund.” All you need to do, it says, is respond with your bank account information and they’ll transfer the funds. But that’s a scam. There’s no money and there’s no fund. And it’s not from the FTC. If you get a message like this, don’t respond. Instead, report it to the real FTC. A lot of people fell for the benefit scam and had their credit and bank accounts messed up but if you fell for any of this scams you can file a report with the company I’ll be listing below

If you’re getting an economic stimulus payment, that money will come from the Internal Revenue Service.

If you receive a text message like the one pictured here, DO NOT click the link! It is not a message from any official agency. It is however a gateway for bad actors to find their way into your world.

COVID-19 has also brought cyber criminals a new angle in which to take advantage of people. Building on several scams that were already out there being circulated, there are many faces to these scams: fake charities, online shopping, phish emails (impersonating legitimate organizations like WHO and CDC), robocalls, romance scams, and those pushed through social media.

If you think you gave your financial information to a scammer and you’ve been scammed of some money, go to a legitimate trustworthy recovery company cyberfundsrecovery.come (kindly remove the ‘e’ at the back) and they’ll take you through steps on how you can recover your money .

What shocked you today?
Child prostitution in Thailand

Its very scary, and its more common in Asia than people think. That was the most shocking thing I have seen today, but I knew it existed.

While Thailand has ramped up efforts to tackle child s*x trafficking in recent years, the crime is evolving and taking new forms such as the rising use of child girls as ‘entertainers’ to lure men into bars.

Sexual exploitation is the main form of modern-day slavery in Thailand – making up more than half of the 191 human trafficking cases recorded by the government so far this year.

It’s disheartening how using children as a s*x tool could be something to talk about in the present world.

It would be great if the international community looked into it and rescue these young girls as the majority of them carry out this exercise against their will.

Nationwide Covid-19 vaccination will begin in February and target the 5 “red zone” provinces currently under lockdown.

Department of Disease Control (DDC) Director-General Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong said residents of Samut Sakhon, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat would be inoculated from February to April.

He said the vaccination timeline had been set after health agencies passed the vaccine as safe and effective, and most people in Thailand would get COVID-19 shots by the end of this year.

The first batch of 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine will arrive in Thailand between February and April.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the first group of Thais to be vaccinated will be community public health volunteers, as they are in the front line of the virus battle.

He said the ministry is also negotiating with AstraZeneca to buy a further 26 million doses, and has also asked the FDA and various agencies to expedite the process of allowing the vaccines to be used in Thailand.

02/01/2021

Reports of a new and possibly more contagious coronavirus variant have prompted panic in Europe and beyond.

The new variant of the virus, called B.1.1.7, was first detected in the UK in September but had since spread rapidly. British authorities formally identified the new variant around mid-December.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson cited one academic — Dr. Erik Voltz, a public health lecturer at Imperial College, London — saying the variant could be up to 70% more transmissible. But Volz has himself said that "it's really too early to tell" how transmissible it is, "but from what we see so far it is growing very quickly."

Viruses are typically expected to mutate, and variants aren't necessarily more harmful. Experts have also said that COVID-19 vaccines should still work against the new variant.

Meanwhile, the UK announced on December 23 that it had found a different, possibly more infectious coronavirus variant originating from South Africa.

And on December 24, Nigeria reported another variant of the virus, separate from the ones found in the UK and South Africa.

John Nkengasong, the head of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said that health officials were analyzing more samples and that little is known so far about that variant.

The Commerce Ministry has instructed provincial offices nationwide to check whether shops are breaking the law by selling overpriced face masks.

Permanent-Secretary Boonyarit Kalayanamit said the move follows a spike in demand for face masks following a new outbreak of COVID-19.

He said commerce officials visited a total of 573 pharmacies, shops and convenience stores but found no violations, adding that there was no need to panic-buy or hoard masks.
