I’m posting this awesome senior photo shoot for a friend who in my opinion is the best photographer in the area if you want a personal shoot done. Seriously, she does fabulous work and is very reasonable. Message her if you want a fun, quality job.

I always say seniors are my favorite to shoot, but I’ve never said why. Seniors to me symbolize excitement, potential, newness, adventures, and growth.

My favorite thing during my sessions is to watch a “timid” person transform in front of my camera. To watch their true self and personality come out with ever click of the camera.

The Providence Health Park had an extra-special visitor today, as a moose decided to come inside and check out the plants in the lobby. Thankfully, caregivers from the Security Department helped guide our friend safely out the door.

One of the most beautiful birds I’ve ever watched and photographed in Alaska is the snowy owl. Every year in September and October I watched dozen of pairs of them while working in a remote section of the Arctic. They stood out like milk jugs on a football field until we got our first snow.

A dream come true •

Ever since I was a young girl hunting whitetails in Oklahoma I had always dreamt of one day hunting moose in the wild country of Alaska.
This past week I shot my first moose in the Brooks Range north of the Artic Circle. No guides, no special draw tags, just my husband and I, our Super Cub and a dream.

What a wild place this Bull called home. More to follow...

The most common response I’ll get at art shows is “your in the right place at the right time”. That couldn’t be more right but it kinda seems like their implying that I’m lucky time and time again. I just want people to know 90% of the time I envision every photo before I’m there and make a plan to make that happen. Even if it takes one try or I have to wait years for the right conditions, light, etc I have a plan in my head. With this strategy it means I have to spend a lot of time looking, learning, researching, and daydreaming before I make it happen. Because of that strategy I don’t get near the quantity others do but it makes for what I think is real good quality, and that’s what it’s all about right?

Nature is truly amazing!

I’ve waited to witness this type of moment for a long time. Unmeasurable by days, weeks or a shutter count.

And if I’m being honest, as the situation unfolded, I hit the shutter, held the shutter. Lol Then found myself looking away from my camera. Watching without the viewfinder or zoom lens.

What I’ve learned about capturing these special moments, regardless if it’s bears, wolves or your best friend, is that even if one of the photos captured “may be worth a thousand words.” No image could ever do the actual moment justice or duplicate the feeling. So do yourself a favor. Every once and a while, don’t forget to look up from the camera. Witness these moments through the lens of your eyes.
