On August 23, 2020, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as Deputy Emir and Crown Prince, gave his first speech to talk about corruption issues and their spread in Kuwait, saying, "We have a severe and resolute stand to confront this destructive danger with full determination and strength. Fighting corruption is not an option but a duty, legitimacy, a constitutional entitlement, a moral responsibility, and a national project that everyone shares its commitment to. "Fighting corruption is the first priority as Emir of the country after the emirate of the State of Kuwait was assigned to him on September 29, 2020, following the death of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
