Dear Goalies,
Brene Brown is an inspiration to us all. I know that many of us enjoy her podcast. Recently she had Dr. Edith Eger as her guest. Dr. Eger, author of The Gift, shared her experience of being a prisoner of Auschwitz, losing her parents the first day and being rescued. She has dedicated her life to finding freedom, helping others understand trauma, healing, and empowering the human spirit. I am moved by an excerpt from her book, “Change is about interrupting the habits and patterns that no longer serve us. If you want to meaningfully alter your life, you don’t simply abandon a dysfunctional habit or belief; you replace it with a healthy one. You choose what you're moving toward. You find an arrow and follow it. As you begin your journey, it’s important to reflect not only on what you’d like to be free from, but on what you want to be free to do or become.” The question is more than, What bad habit do I want to get rid of. The questions are what do you want to be free to do, what do you want to become. From a woman who has been through so much, we have so much to learn from her wisdom in finding freedom in our own lives.

XOXO, Meredith

This week I'm changing my goals to reflect on what makes me happy. I'm running just to run without clocking my miles or heartrate. I'm dancing daily, and I'm working to bring the joy back into goal setting. If your goals aren't making you happy then maybe its time to reevaluate.

Guys! Remember this desk and how I "finished" it as part of my 2020 goals? Well, obviously that didn't go as planned and two months later I am still spending time sanding, painting, and making repeated trips to the hardware store. It can be frustrating, but it can also be great if I look at it from a different perspective. I'm glad my sister doesn't need the other half of her garage, that we get to chat while I put on my 25th layer, that I have a really solid supply of painting gadgets now, that my brother has a sander, that I have an official painting outfit now, etc. etc. If I don't end up burning this desk first it is going to be really cute one day and I am going to practice looking at the bright side until then.

I'm reading The Happiness Advantage right now and am loving two of the ideas that align so well with goal setting and goal reaching. 1) The Zorro Effect: Channel your efforts on small, manageable goals, to gain the leverage to gradually conquer bigger and bigger ones. 2) The 20-Second Rule: Make small energy adjustments so that things you want to do require minimal effort and things you want to stop doing require more than 20 seconds of effort. We’ve been taught that if we work hard, we will be successful, and then we’ll be happy. If we can just find that great job, get a raise, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology have shown that this formula is actually backward: ha...

I look forward to Wednesdays because it's soccer nights. Soccer makes me so happy and I absolutely love it! I also love that Gingercat and Josh play on the team. We had such a fun time this season on the Nacho Average team. Soccer was something I wanted to wait to do until I was in “better shape”. How many things to we wait to do until a better time. I really like this quote that I've sen floating around the world wide web. “Stop waiting for Friday, for summer, for someone to fall in love with you, for life. Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it and make the most of the moment you are in now.” -Steph

There's no time like 2021 to get that 20 year old task off my project list, right?? Do you have any equally old projects you want to win at this year? I'll save you a place in the closet! Or better yet, share where you'll be creating this year. - Heidi

Dear Goalies,

This week we talk about how change and growth can be uncomfortable. We like being in our safety zones. It’s nice when you know exactly what to expect from life and you get really good at what you do. But growth comes from bending and shaping the box you live in. This episode we talk about getting comfortable with the uncomfortableness of reaching our goals.

Dear Goalies,
I am a sucker for a success story, which is why I admire Paul Moore’s determination and grit. Paul lost 90 pounds over four years by changing his daily habits. He started by limiting soda and getting out and moving. Little daily routines turned into a lifestyle, and he has been able to keep the weight off for over half a decade. Paul talks about how the path we walk to our dreams is often more important than the dream itself.
“Sometimes, things don’t work out, no matter how hard we plan. But that’s not the point, the point is taking time to make a plan and then walking that path. You see, the path we walk to our dream is so much more important than the dream itself. ”
Paul is passionate about helping others on their goal-setting journey and has created a planner that tracks morning and evening routines, life goals, and tracks progress. Paul is co-owner of , a Marketing company specializing in helping small business owners. He enjoys creating inspirational messages on his blog and Instagram . We hope you enjoy this interview and remember to dream big, start small, and act daily.
Love,
Steph

If you are wanting to love your goals more I recommend gaining insights from The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Some of my favorite take-aways from this book are 1) You don't have to love something just because the world tells you that you should love it. Make goals for you. Do what makes you happy. 2) If a goal isn't getting you to where you want to go change it! Even if you are being diligent at it, if the results and joy aren't there bag it and try something new. There's no shame in that. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do.

One rainy afternoon, while riding a city bus, Gretchen Rubin asked herself, “What do I want from life, anyway?” She answered, “I want to be happy”—yet she spent no time thinking about her happiness. In a flash, she decided to dedicate a year to a happiness project. The result? One of the m...

I'm Heidi! A new addition this season and I’m excited to be here. This week in my hot seat interview you’ll get all the details behind my quest to set and achieve goals. It started with a quote from Benjamin Franklin and has taken several paths as I’ve tried to love life and love myself. When I’m not setting goals I’m an avid reader who loves to travel. Magic happens when my wandering path crosses the path of my favorite characters. This year I am slowing down, showing more gratitude and embracing the whole spectrum of real life.

🎙NEW EPISODE 🎙 Dear Goalies,
Setting new goals and starting out on an unexplored path can be a bit hectic. You might still be determining what your path is going to look like. Some unexpected challenges may have already surprised you and jostled you around a bit. That’s okay! It happens. We can’t foresee everything that is going to happen to knock us off our path, but we can decide what we’ll do about it. That is why I love this quote by Plato, “The first and greatest victory is to conquer self.” We can’t control anything or anyone except ourselves so accept where you are at and go from there. This week we talked about our highs and our lows. We’ll have both every day, every week, every year. Whether you are currently at a high point or a low point decide what you will do and take that first small step.

Heidi

I'm the bass of the group. One of my goals for 2021 is to go mountain biking and skiing during the same week or even the same day. With Utah's weather, anything is possible. When I'm not enjoying the mountains, I love going country dancing and making custom clothing for my business, JP Couture. I built this company with the mantra: Life is full of compromises; the fit shouldn't be one of them! My suits come with a 100% guaranteed fit. Also, one of my goals is to have a failure each day. If you make failure a goal, then it takes the fear out of it!

Sincerely,
Josh

Guys! I’m so excited that my good friend Kim was here -- on the phone with us! She shared her wisdom of goal setting-- I mean, aspiration setting. Kim likes to call them aspirations instead of goals, they are less intimidating that way! She focuses on choosing goals that make her happy and are things she genuinely want to learn how to do. She has learned that her strengths are creating things so she bases her goals off of that! She really motivated us all to create a vision board and promised that awesome things would happen. We all want to take her up on that. She says putting your goals up where you can see them will make it so you achieve them!
My favorite thing Kim said was to spend just 15 minutes a day on your goals and you can easily get it done! All it takes is 15 minutes to get something done.

XOXO,
Meredith

Today we had a guest interview, Kim Domacilio! She shares with us her insights on setting goals and to have fun with your aspirations!
