SURVIVOR SAYS HE STRUGGLED FOR 5 DAYS TO FIND WAY OUT

After nearly a week since dozens of miners were trapped, one miner was pulled alive out of the open-pit mine in Chingola while two dead bodies were retrieved from underneath debris.

The 49-year-old survivor, Mwanshya Kakoma, who was rescued on Tuesday night around 21:30 hours, told rescuers he had been struggling for five days to find a way out of one of the collapsed tunnels at the copper mine.

“I left my clothes, phone, a K200 and sacks [of copper] in the pit. I also left people,” he responded when asked by Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo at Konkola Copper Mines-run Nchanga South Hospital intensive care unit.

Nchanga South Hospital medical superintendent Jules Dikamba described his condition as stable. “He’s in ICU right now and his condition is stable,” Dr Dikamba said.

A man has been shot dead in Nigeria's north-eastern Bauchi state while a so-called bullet-proof charm - or "gun medicine" - was being tested on him by a traditional healer, police spokesman Ahmed Wakil has said.

The healer - who allegedly fired the shot with a locally made gun - has been arrested, along with two other suspects, while other suspects are on the run, he added.

The test on the efficacy of the "gun medicine" occurred on 43-year-old villager Muhammadu Ali, Supt Wakil said.

Police rushed to the scene as soon as they heard of the shooting, and took Mr Ali to hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival, the police spokesman added.

He warned the public against being used as "cannon fodder".

The suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, Supt Wakil said.

Charms believed to have magic powers are commonly used in Nigeria, where many people consult traditional healers over a wide variety of issues.

But there have been several reports of people being killed after testing so-called bullet-proof charms and medicines.

DRUNK LUSAKA DRIVER LOSES EYE IN CAR CRASH

Drunk driver collides with another motorist.

An unidentified man believed to be an Army Officer is nursing serious injuries after he lost control of his Toyota IST and hit into a BMW that had the right of way along Makeni Road in Lusaka near Cosmopolitan Mall.

According to a shaken male survivor who is also a gardener of the driver has told Diamond News his boss was in a drunken state when the incident occurred.

The unhappy survivor who asked not to be named claims his boss had earlier been consuming beer, an issue his superiors were against earlier in the day.

The IST had three occupants, but the two passengers are unhurt while the driver sustained a deep cut on his forehead and lost his left eye.

The driver of the BMW did not sustain any injury; however, the motor vehicle was extensively damaged.

Moments after the crash, the disfigured driver was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but it is feared his condition is unstable due to excessive blood loss.

Drunk son kills dad with fork

A 21-year-old man of Helen Kaunda has allegedly killed his 63-year-old stepfather with a fork and another sharp instrument after returning from drinking alcohol.

John Katongo, who lived with his stepfarther, Paul Mbewe, is said to have killed him yesterday between 04:00 hours and 05:00 hours.

Police spokesperson Danny Mwale and Katongo’s uncle Jonathan Chanda, who was in the house at the time, confirmed the tragic incident.

Mr Mwale said the suspect is said to have returned from taking alcohol on Tuesday around 16:00 hours and went straight to bed.

KITWE POLICE GUN DOWN 2 BANDITS
February 25, 2023 - Police in Kitwe shot dead two people suspected to be behind a spate of Robberies in Kitwe and Chongola Districts.

The two suspects identified as Ernest Mashane also known as Chaile aged 37 and Fidelis Mwansa popularly known as Shi Castrol aged 31 both of Kamatipa area in Kitwe District were gunned down on February 24, 2023 at Mindolo Dam area around 17:30 hours.

Concerned members of the public spotted the two known notorious suspects in Race Course township and apprehended them after a long chase. Police were alerted and arrested the suspects around 15:00 hours.

When interrogated, they admitted being behind a series of Aggravated Robberies experienced in Kitwe and Chingola and that they had a Pistol at their house in Kamatipa township. They later led Police officers to their house in Kamatipa where a pistol was recovered. Upon further interrogations, the suspects revealed that an AK-47 rifle was hidden in the bush in Mindola Dam Area.

It was during the recovery of the AK-47 rifle that the two decided to run away from the Police. Several warning shots were fired in the air in trying to stop them and in the process they were caught by bullets and sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

They were rushed to Kitwe Central Hospital where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police recovered one AK-47 rifle with six rounds of ammunition within the same area.

Lusaka woman missing after visiting daughters at boarding school

A WOMAN of Lusaka has not returned home almost a week after visiting her two daughters at Njase Girls Boarding School in Choma, Southern Province.

Twaila Lisulo of Graden Compound made the journey last Sunday and is said to have spent time with her daughters who are in Grade 8 and 10 respectively up to about 16:30 hours.

Afterwards, the 32 year old left for home but didn't arrive and has not been seen or heard from since while her mobile phone has been off.

Her family have filed a missing person report with the police and appealing anyone with information of her whereabouts to contact them on +260776961397.

Lusaka 'toy cop' threatens to shoot wife for being to submissive

A MAN of Lusaka has threatened to shoot dead his wife of six years because she is too submissive.

Alphed Kabamba, despite never having stepped even a foot into a police college to learn the art of singing songs about human sausages, is engaged as reserve police officer sometimes known as 'Toy Cop'.

But instead of using the unmerited favour of being a cop despite not attending training, Kabamba who is aged 36 has instead been using his newfound power to threaten to dispatch his wife to the land of permanent sleep.

In her testimony to the Matero Local Court, Bridget Kabamba aged 30 attested that the source of rage is that she is too submissive.

She explained that her husband openly boasts to her about his girlfriend who is a police reservist only identified as Concilia whom he has impregnated and even tells the children in their matrimonial home that the other woman was preparing to bring Chilanga Mulilo for him soon.

“He told me if I don’t leave his house, he is going to shoot me and my relatives will only find my dead body. He went as far as telling the children I keep to prepare themselves as they will soon be receiving a Chilanga Mulilo” Bridget told the court.

Asked if the allegations were true, Kabamba who looked shy and crest fallen like a naked wizard that has just dropped from the sky, merely said sorry to the court.

But as they say, there is no sorry after death; so the magistrate ordered the wife to remain with her relatives until the court decides what to do with the Toy Cop keen on being a wife murderer.
