I replied "well that's because I am a nice person š".
It was 2020 and I've since moved, but when you read statistics that say 75% of the neurotypical population thinks people like me are mean or d@ngerous, it really shouldn't come as a shock. We are not monsters, we are not bad people. It's mental health awareness month and it's the perfect time to raise awareness -- we are not outside of society, we are a part of it. Maybe it's a part the rest of society doesn't really understand but that doesn't mean we don't belong here like everybody else.

Who among you can stand there and say that thisās a well thought out, necessary program that will make the world better for those with mental illness? Who among you has the backbone to stand up, share this and say āLook what they are doing to usā? You know who has not been featured speaking on this matter anywhere? The severely mentally ill. We donāt even get a voice in the discussion. You think those of us in Canada who need help are gonna have their voices heard once the machine gets going? No able bodied person needs a program to help them end it all. Itās a leading cause of mortality already. Clearly if you want to make it happen youāll find a way. We donāt need more danger and peril. That argument is a red herring to distract you and make you feel like this is necessary. Make no mistake: this is tantamount to locking an alcoholic in a room with po!soned free beer. Itās on par with assuming a āyesā from an incapacitated person is consent. Itās not. Thereās no way to twist it into being so. You have until March 17 to say something. #canada #psychiatry #maid #yourstoryisntoveryet #youmatter #mentalillness #speakup

It's a hard sell. I'm officially naming my adhd meds Travis. What name would you give your medication? #medication #mentalillness #bipolar #adhd #mentalillnessmemes
Every day. You can try to tell a kid itās okay, theyāre special, theyāre amazing, but kids pick up on stuff. And when youāre clearly not like everybody else (in an uncool way), you feel it. You feel it when youāre the āproblemā, the kid that āCanāt handleā or āDoesnāt get itāā¦ when youāre flooded with tasks your brain isnāt designed to handle and get overwhelmed itās difficult enoughā¦ bring in the social communication issues and people saying kids like you just need more discipline, and your difficulties arenāt real, and you canāt even understand the scope of it yourselfā¦ Itās hard not to come home and fall apart inside. But we always put on a brave face, donāt we? Smile!
The very first TV mental health advocateā¦ and the best.
About all the energy/motivation I have for most things these days tbh.

āEverythings fineā
I know Iāve already done several posts about this, but itās such a huge topic because itās the result of the stigma we face as people with mental health conditions. This is a parody but very very close to how I have to conduct myself in publicā¦ which wouldnāt be too bad (other than ādimming downā my face), but itās a facade I have to keep up even when Iām dealing with extreme symptoms.
Itās a burden I canāt always carry, and one none of us should have to.
We have medical conditions. We have symptoms, and they will show up sometimes, no matter how hard we try to hide them. Nobody should expect us to be perfect, and we should not have to hide from people in the first place. The more people understand what these illnesses are (and what they arenāt), the easier it will be for people who need it to get help and support, the more appropriate peopleās expectations will be, the better we can all exist side by side with everyone as we are, and the more everyone thrives.
It is my goal that a child born today who has the same journey to walk as I do will not have to learn to hide it like I did. We are not monsters, we have done nothing wrong by being ill. And itās time the world knows and understands that.
